When I first heard this song a few years back, I thought the lyrics were "It's better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poisoned rationality."
Ok but NOT brendon wrote the song but their former guitarist ryan ross... and i don't wanna say this is wrong cause like you keep saying this is just a theory and others can have their own imagines of the song but it's kinda revealed that it's about ryan's breakup with his girlfriend. He imagined that it all could have been worse (for example a breakup on their wedding). Also very much songs on 'a fever you can't sweat out' are about this breakup, cause ryan, every time he broke up with someone, he got rly emo and that stuff... So yea ^-^
mariana12280 panic is beyond the Book. A girlfriend breaking up could do a lot for a musician or lirycs writer career. Nothing brings truthful meaning to a song than be written by a broken heart. Nobody likes the songs he wrote while he panic about losing her.... but until his heart was broken did the real sentiment really finally flowed
I always interpreted it as the groom actually called the wedding off after overhearing the exchanging of words. Like, he lashed out at them for not closing the door before bad-mouthing the bride, but then faced the thing with a sense of poise and rationality, realized they were right, and then called off the wedding. Later, at what was to be the wedding reception, he says "Look at it this way: technically, our marriage is saved." As in, "If we had gotten married, you would've kept cheating on me, broke my heart, and then it would've ended in a messy divorce. By not getting married in the first place, we avoid all that." Then he calls for a toast, and... that's it.
All the World , all the power but N3-18:32 says it all. Yes you're ministers and yes you have authority but you serve a higher authority I know I do and he has wrote it and his word is endless and he does not lie. Or is it you have so much power that you think you're justified to deny his gospel? If I die Saturday night you'll pray for my soul on Sunday and He will forgive you played with his knowledge and cost his kingdom a soul? For he knows all that is, was and will be. And only are we witnesses of what he mercifully allows us to see. What can you tell me from JS before he was 14? None of our business for he was choosed for his future not his past. What do you know from His Begotten before he was 30 and after he was a child in the temple? None of our business all we know is he remained without sin all those years. What or how or why or how many tribulations endured that period? He who's name is I AM doesn't want me to know it all for what purpose will it all have to be then if we knew the answers to every questions of every soul? I am humble to be used by my sins to save a soul if that would only be my destiny. I would be grateful as I am full of love for everyone even on their birthdays
This song is crazy. I just went to a concert on friday and in between sets they would play popular pop punk songs (green day, bink 182, sum 41 etc) and one of the songs right before the headlining band went on stage was "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies". And the entire room was singing along to this song, it was really cool. And about closing the door: you need to close the doors in the winter when the heating is on or you'll "heitz die Gass'" literal translation: "heat the ally way."
Yess, lov P!ATD!! Could u please explain the titles of these songs with titles that aren't in the lyrics?? Lots of songs by Panic, like "London Beckoned a song about money written by machines" and "The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is press coverage" are like that. Thanks for your videos, they're really great!
the titles are references to movies or books they saw/read during the writing and recording of the album. This is what Brendon said: "For this whole album, we were all sitting around and choosing quotes from commercials, movies, books. It was all inside jokes. We would be watching a movie together and be like, ‘Oh, that would be funny,’ because that describes this song kind of."
“I chime in with the haven’t you people ever heard of closing the God damn door” I’m not sure if he did explain this and I just missed something but this portrays when he is overhearing the people talking about the affair that he joins their conversation and tells them to “close the door” which means to just let it go and get over it. Ik this was explained but I thought I’d go into further depth for people like myself that took a minute or two to get it.
Very interesting video 👍 I'm new to your channel, but I really like the quality of your videos, cause you explain stuff on point, but leaving out unnecessary stuff, to keep it tight 👌
I've always thought the "technically our marriage is saved" part was he didn't get married, so he didn't have to deal with the infidelity that was going on behind his back. And then went on to get drunk with the champagne because he spent too much money on it.
It's about Ryan's terrible breakup and he put it in a more "mature" nature by saying that they where being married, and the reason of the breakup was that she cheated on Ryan...
Brendon Urie didn’t write this song though?? What he says about most songs presplit are kind of guesses as to what Ryan and the others who wrote it meant.
Well now you’ve closed the goddamn door, you can get on with your day. Until your sibling comes to tell you it’s Dinner Time and they leave it open, resulting in an awkward dinner inwhich you subtly glare at them, willing that they’d closed the goddamn door. Btw a few days ago I unintentionally asked my brother to close my goddamn door and he still doesn’t understand why I burst out laughing. I’m going to leave now my fingers hurt. Edit: omg I got noticed I feel like celebrity. Jk jk
Lol sometimes when my dad would come into my room then leave the door open when he left I would play this song on my speaker really loud. My dad would come back and shut the door, rolling his eyes. Lol dad=0 my emo ass=1
My parents hateeeee this song! Hummm...wondering why??🤔🤔 teeheehee. I get where Brendon is coming from, same growing up ("mormon"); I was considered the "black sheep" for being myself. I blame ppl for this! Not religion itself, they are about family unity, loving your enemies, etc. Ppl in any religion tend to mold teachings to fit better to them or what they are doing seem "right", when its totally wrong!😌🙄 btw...great video! bravo!👏👍🤓
The repetition of the second verse with the way he sings it represents 2 different meanings to me. The first time it's him wanting to quietly work out their problems like her side of the family would. Saving the marriage by fixing it. The second is after he finds her cheating again. That time he "saves the marriage" by breaking off the engagement before they're even married. Going to celebrate dodging a bullet with his crazy side of the family.
The irony about this song being a basic laugh in the face at religion and the type of crazy people that come with it, is the fact that they literally censor "God Damn Door", now. It just really irks me so much. When this came out (I was, like, 15 or 16) it was never censored in the video or on the radio. I don't care what any of these kids argue about now-a-days. My sisters and I will fight until we die to prove that it was never censored originally and it had nothing to do with a church. Censoring it just feels like a slap in the face; like the religious people won, basically.
me, slamming my fists onto the table: why can't people understand it was ryan ross who wrote the lyrics for the entire afycso album and most songs are a direct reference to palahniuk's literature works, i'm gonna die mad about it!
I always thought of it more as "Technically our marriage is saved" because we don't have to go through with it, or because I'm finding out now rather than later. It's always seemed quite sarcastic to me, particularly with all the sentence fillers and the repetition. "Oh, well, in fact, I mean..." It has a very seat-of-the-pants feeling to it, like he's not sure what to say but has to say something. I think it's meant to be him shouting, overacting pretending to make light of it but really actually seething with anger
I always read “well look at it this way...our marriage is saved” as he would be calling the wedding off, because now he knows she cheated on him and it’s “saved” because he’s no longer entering into an unfaithful marriage
I hate to be this person and I’m sure someone else probably pointed this out, but Brendon did not write this song. Panic at the disco‘s formal guitar playing Ryan did. Ryan was actually the original lead singer of panic at the disco, but was very self-conscious about his voice at the time so when Brendon join the band to Play the guitar Ryan asked Brendon if he wanted to sing because he wanted his confident lyrics to have a confident voice behind them. This is really important because you made the point of Brendon’s religions background probably having to do something with the song.
I've always loved P!ATD lyrics, never fails to either enchant me or make me emotional in one way or another. One band who's lyrics I've always been curious about is Glass Animals, particularly the Zaba album, buuut that isn't exactly pop. They manage to make the weirdest lyrics ("peanut butter vibes" "lemon peel now suck it" etc) sound sultry and intriguing. I'm terrible at song or lyric interpretation or analysis, so mostly my education comes from UA-cam comment theories lmao.... (Never fails that any song will have the interpretation of "it's about drugs!")
A lot of glass animals are just weird for the sake of being weird. Example: Pork Soda. The lyric 'pineapples are in my head' seem like it has some deep meaning, but nope. Apparently one of the band members overheard a homeless man say it to himself and thought it sounded cool.
In the background you have a Twenty One Pilots poster, and one of their more recent songs also has a deliberate spot where it doesn't rhyme. I wish I found some better sounds no one’s ever heard I wish I had a better voice that sang some better words I wish I found some chords in an order that is new I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sang
I thought the technically our marriage is saved was of the fact that they didn’t get married, so they never ruined it, but yours actually makes more sense
song writing prompt: (okay I’ve never actually tried to write a song let alone a stanza for one so please standby-) _raging waters in the depths_ _pounding on the outside of darkness_ _no pride, nor shame, nor grace_ _pull a string, watch it ravel away_ it’s deep in ways i can’t explain but yay and nice vid, man, good job

IKR! Everyone assumes that Brendon Wrote the lyrics for all the songs. But it was Him, Jon, Spencer, and especially Ryan. Ryan basically wrote Pretty. Odd.
Panic at the disco is my absolute favorite! I love all of their songs, and Camisado is one of my all time favourites. Could you explain Nearly Witches the next time? I like that song, and I don't know why it's not that famous as so many others. Or maybe House Of Memories? Just curious, but are you going to do some videos with Bastille songs? They're amazing, with songs that are open for everyone to interpret in their own way. Laughter lines, The Poet, Glory, The Draw, The Anchor, Send them off!
I always thought the “technically our mariage is saved” meant that it was saved because their was no wedding, because you can have only one weeding in a church and it’s safe for a wedding with someone better who doesn’t cheat
I would love if you explained Nearly Witches from P!ATD. It’s my absolute favorite song of their’s. But I know it doesn’t quite have the same name recognition as some of their other songs so I understand if you don’t do it. And side note, it’d be awesome if you did some G-Eazy, he does have quite a few of those typical rap songs about how great he is, but he has some really amazing stuff if you’re willing to look past those songs. Also side note to the side note, you’re the best! :)
I disagree about the mimes and clowns part, I believe the wife’s side are mimes because they know about the cheating through rumors or something and don’t say anything, which makes the grooms side look like clowns, since they have no idea and are enjoying themselves

And side note, it’d be awesome if you did some G-Eazy, he does have quite a few of those typical rap songs about how great he is, but he has some really amazing stuff if you’re willing to look past those songs. Also side note to the side note, you’re the best! :)
I've thought about doing G-Eazy for a while. I really need to study what he's got.

I disagree about the mimes and clowns part, I believe the wife’s side are mimes because they know about the cheating through rumors or something and don’t say anything, which makes the grooms side look like clowns, since they have no idea and are enjoying themselves
Yay another Panic! ... Thank youuuu😍😍😍😍 Love youu
