Shirley recorded and released this song as a 1976 Single (Side-B) / (Side-A) - Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You. This song was included on Shirley's 1976 LP titled, 'Shirley Bassey - Love, Life and Feelings'.

Written by Sergio Bardotti / Dario Baldan Bembo. English lyrics penned by Norman Newell.
Released on the 1976 album Love, Life And Feelings and on a single with "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" on the A-side. Available on CD on the collection Four Decades Of Song.
Originally this was an Italian song called "Aria" and performed by Dario Baldan Bembo. Years later, 1976 Mr. Acker Bilk recorded "Aria" instrumentally with his clarinet, which became a hit - in Britain it reached number five in the charts. Mr. Acker Bilk (born: Bernard Stanley Bilk) is a well known musician, remember for example his 1962 hit "Stranger on the Shore".
Norman Newell then penned English lyrics to the song for Shirley Bassey and the title became "Born To Lose". Shirley Bassey has performed this song on some live appearances and TV shows - a live recording is on Live In Japan '77. In 2000 Shirley Bassey sung it again on some concerts of her Millennium Tour, and also recently on the Stately Homes Tour 2001.
The Italian singer Ornella Vanoni has later also sung "Aria" in English, but with different English lyrics penned by Ben Raleigh

I know she's celebrated and I've never seen a Shirley Bassey show but even watching on this little phone I can't imagine that there could be a more charged performer. She is beautiful.
Dame Shirley always gave 120% at every concert! Over the last 60+ years she also toured the world more times than just about any other artist. I personally was able to attend at least a dozen concerts in the Southern California (USA) area where I live.

Me too! It makes my soul rise. It’s been a while since I came back to this, I will only start binging Shirley Bassey a couple of days ago after years of not watching her that much. But believe me, I used to binge on her a lot for many years, And this was one of my favorite songs to come back to.
She is what she is! Diva in her own right and in my opinion out does Barbra Streisand when it comes to so much emotion and you can really feel it when she's happy and/or sad! I could slow dance to this! Bravo Shirley I'm glad my dad introduced me to her way back in the 70s. I have perfect pitch and I'm sure as she is singing this bittersweet song there isn't a dry eye in the house.

This was originally an Italian song written by Dario Baldan Bembo and Sergio Bardotti in 1975. The Italian song was titled, 'Aria'. Shirley found a great avenue for finding songs to record that were written in Italian and not known in the English speaking community. When she would find such a song with a melody she liked, she brought it back to the UK and her good friend & song writer, Norman Newell, would write English words the the song.
