Thank you, worked like a charm on my 20 year old golf mk4, where the handle were eroded really bad - had to use a hammer to get the handle loose, and replace it with a new one.. The lock needed a bunch of wd-40 - and now the central locking system workes again... Luckily the lock just pops into place, so no need to mess with the u-clip, NICE! Really proud of myself =) Greetings from Denmark =)
Thanks for this guide! Couldn't find one anywhere showing how to release the retaining clip. Spent hours trying to get it off (V. Corroded). Bit of force required :)
no worries mate. yes they get like that does to condensation and such likes, but i'm glad you found this handy and even more happy you're now sorted because of it! don't forget... BMACVAGS on facebook... if you're not a member, come on over and i'll approve you! also BMACVAGS youtube channel... LOADS of vids on there by Boydie!!! :-)
having been asked the refitting method, it is simply this. put all 3 T20's back in place, pop the U clip into position, line the lock up so it's under the handle's cast that pulls the boot open (you'll feel it drop into it's chamber) and then... PUSH til you hear it click. done! :-)
Steve Griz Adams hey again mate, I did get it out though, I looked again and again in the video, until I found another video, with only one little difference. It's because I had difficulties getting the cylinder locking mechanism out of the handle... So, the poblem was just that it was REALLY really stuck... I pulled out the "U" pin as you showed, but I just needed to gentle hammer it out of the handle, with a 10mm or 12mm top socket bracket, I hope you get what I mean though :) But otherwise than that, then you were a big help to all of the other stuff, so thank you for the video, I subscribed and liked he video! :) Have a nice day mate! :)
