Cro was such a huge artist back in the early 2010s. He was on radio practically everyday and most of his songs were in the charts.
Also, a lot of people don't like that modern rap/hiphop music. It's mainly teenagers and younger adults(18-20/21) that listen to that kind of music actively and enjoy it.
That's my experience at least
MTV and VIVA used to be a huge part of my youth. Back then MTV had stuff like pimp my ride, jackass, kenny vs spenny, south park, american dad and more, whilst VIVA was playing music almost all day long. If I wasn't listeining to VIVA, I was watching stuff on MTV. And all in all I can attest that Turkish-German, Arab-German, African-German and German rap in general really killed most of these top 10 lists for me. 2016 onward it's really going downhill.
Hey! Regarding your question about the relatively high buildings at 8:50.
You were right, that midrise buildings are commonly found in former East-Germany and throughout most of eastern Europe.
The midrises in East-Germany are usually 5 stories high, since everything above required an elevator by law.
The buildings are called "stalinkas", since they rose to prominence in the stalin-era of the ussr.
However the buildings you see in the music video are in hongkong. There is no place that looks like this in germany. The buildings are way to high.
That's a teenage party mix, mass-produced. They don't tell much about Germany. A few songs go a little deeper or pop out of the crowd: Sarah Connor can sing, the same goes for a singer called Lea. There is a huge German RAP scene, popular especially among immigrant kids. The big names are Luciano, Shirin David, but also Haftbefehl ("069" is a banger) or Mero ("Baller los"). A very unique German band IMHO is Rammstein. The softer Songs refer to classical song traditions. You said you're pianist. I highly recommend "Mein Herz brennt", Pianoversion, and "Ohne dich", "Seeman"(Cover Version Nina Hagen).

8:50 No ist not East Germany, in East and West have tall apartment blocks.
9:52 Deutschland from Rammstein (Song about the darkest chapters of Germany) is hard and good but very controversial.

Hello there!
I hate the video (the video he reacted to)..what is this..not even half a sneeze of any song. If one makes a video about songs, it should at least have a full chorous or 30sec of playtime..those are just micro snippets, cut from random times in the songs..barely enough to recognize the song if you already know it..for people who never heard any of the songs its just a short forgetable tune. Really bad video.
