This is why I love my mom so much. She knew how to do my hair and did not push me to get relaxers or worry if my hair stayed neat when I was young. It made it easier to accept my 4c hair.

I had Barbie dolls too, white ones, but I never really had any self esteem issues from playing with them. It’s always confusing and interesting hearing about another person’s experience 😂

Right. My mom gave me TRAUMA behind my hair but I did not correlate that to my dolls. That self hate is disheartening- what are parents telling (or not telling) their kids!!??!

Same here! I wore ponytail puffs on my natural hair up my Junior year in High School! When it was Prom Time! I wanted a new hair style! This was back in the 80’s! All salons did wash, blow drying, press and curl! Or you choose The Relaxer! My Mother told me not to get the relaxer, so the hairdresser Washed and Styled my hair! The pressed last about a week after the prom, then back to the ponytail/updo style again! Similar to your video! My mother never had relaxers! She always washed and kept her hair braided and sometimes blowout style. She taught us well!!❤❤❤❤❤

For most black little girls white and non black dolls aren’t good for their self esteem and teach self hate and insecurities.
