Otep turning a classic Eminem track into a misguided LGBTQ+ rant was the single worst musical moment of 2023 for me lol
Much agreed!! I'd rather listen to st anger
Producer: "So, what sound are you going for?"
Kim Dracula: "Yes"
As an Immortal fan going back to "At The Heart Of Winter", I can honestly say there's tracks on "War Against All" that really hit and there's tracks that are really mid. If home-boy waited another year and refined and honed the material on that LP, it could have been better than "Northern Chaos Gods". But he didn't so we got a "middle of the road" Immortal LP. I don't think it's bad but it certainly isn't great. Lamp Of Murmuur made a better Immortal LP this year, than Immortal did.
You’re being too kind to it
I tend to agree with you. It has moments but didn’t quite hit the mark overall. I also gave the lamp of murmuur album a shot and while I loved the at the heart of winter nostalgia the vocals didn’t match the greatness of the music. Too many albums this year had music I really liked but vocals that turned me off either for production reasons or just mediocre delivery.
you're right. It's very meh. Quite easily the best album out of these.
Also anyone who's familiar with Immortal or has a trained ear can recognized re-used Riffs.
I’m glad I’ve only heard one of these lol- it was the Kim Dracula album, and yeah you nailed it. I respect the idea of blending a bunch of disparate, trendy styles together in a very chaotic way, but there was just no nuance or subtly with how Kim went about it. It’s horrid. Every song sounds like a collage of 5 tracks from different artists, and all of them are bad. There are a few nice breakdowns here and there, but there’s way too much unlistenable nonsense for me to ever want to revisit it. It really is a “LOL so random” version of Falling In Reverse
thats saying a lot because frankly Falling In Reverse already feels like a 'lol random' band lmao
I saw Kim Dracula with Avenged Sevenfold this past August and he was fucking HORRENDOUS!
you get a chance to se dillinger escape plan next year for a reunion show
From what I gather, the shows are already sold out lmao
congrats to the lucky folks going though, no doubt it'll be a blast
Fuck yeah. You’re always good to provide a good time. Keep up the great work. Happy holidays to you and yours! Greetings from NB!
Yeeeee thanks bud, cheers 🍻
I personally enjoyed A Gradual Decline of Morale. I do get why people didn't like it, but i thought it was fun. I saw Kim live with A7X and FIR recently, and thats how i got exposed to it. I personally loved it, but as they say, to each their own.
EDIT: Forgot to add, this was a great video. Really fuckin funny, good shit here.
Funny thing about your review of kim dracula, pretty much word for word that review is how I would describe the new Avenged Sevenfold. Every song on that album was like 20 different songs all chopped up and stitched together into a Frankenstein, Cronenberg monstrosity where you can't even compare any of the songs to any of the other songs on the album let alone to the rest of their discography. Like it had some thrash followed by 70s prog keyboards, then some Marilyn Manson vibes, next to some piano ballads with Mike Patton vocals then jumps into straight pantera worship all in one song. It was like they wanted to make a crazy genre bending track on the album that was supposed to stand out like Bohemian Rhapsody but instead they made every song like that; so the whole album is like the audio equivalent of someone with severe ADHD being given a pile of cocaine and recording every single idea but being too hyper to arrange the songs in a coherent way.
I don't disagree but I found the Avenged Sevenfold album to be MUCH more enjoyable, whereas with Kim Dracula I got NOTHING out of it.
Avenged Sevenfold was much more enjoyable, which is saying something because I still thought that absolutely sucked
My worst Metal Albums of 2023:
Til The World Is Blind by Butcher Babies and Eye For An Eye by Butcher Babies
On The Prowl by Steel Panther
Lighting Up The Sky by Godsmack
A Gradual Decline In Morale by Kim Dracula
Those Butcher Babies albums got lucky, narrowly missed the final cut
@@themetalmeltdownofficialagree. Red thunder is one of the best songs by them thought
When interview with dungeon wolf?
Oof, no thanks lmao
Wut you have 15 k?
Niiiiice I've kinda been here since you were 2 k I think
yeeee thanks for stickin around bud
Dungeon Wolf is going to be super popular for its satirical nature. You're right it's bad, but I'm still going to play this for all my family when being required to all be together for Xmas. Maybe next year we won't have to travel! Or if so, then I'm going to learn tuba and practice dominant to tonic pattern on repeat at 3 am... every morning! And if that doesn't work, I'll just say I'm done traveling. Because I wouldn't trust anyone that would put up with all that.
Using Dungeon Wolf as literal repellent is a brilliant idea. Looks like these goofs are good for at least something...
Nobody is happier with this List than Dungeon Wolf.
the way you described a gradual decline in morale makes me love it even more
I didn’t listen to a lot of bad albums this year, but I did listen to a few mid albums, mainly the new Metallica, immortal and Evile records. In fact, that new Evile record has one of the weirdest track orders I’ve ever heard on an album this year. Why put three straight up thrash metal songs in the middle of your Black album rip off record? That makes no sense.
That Evile album was such a letdown. A sad day when the band once hailed as Metallica 2.0 couldn't crank out a better album than modern day Metallica lmao
@@themetalmeltdownofficialSad, indeed.
The first 2 Steel Panther albums were good, after that they started to fall hard
Was thinking the same thing.
it's the most
busy motherfucking time
of the yeeeeeeear
I thought early Steel Panther had a few jams, even if the lyrics weren't fantastic, but the only thing of the album they put out this year I've heard is your review and I don't see a reason to change that.
I don't have worst releases I just have disappointing ones. The new Of Mice and Men album, Crimson Moonlight ep and the new Genus Ordinis Dei album were just super disappointing to me and none of them met the expectations I had for them
Glad I missed some of the albums on your list.
Fuck yeah, dude. I love your channel.
Thanks to being a consistent viewer of your videos, I've managed to avoid listening to all of these albums over the year. Thanks! 😁
These intros are getting better by the day.
A+ thumbnail. 😂😂
@1:48 I think you quoted Santa saying the same thing!!
Santa knows whats up, he a real one
The intros are straight up 10/10
16:07 peak Metal Meltdown moment 😂
Bad thing is I used to like Otep back in the day and she even even wrote with some depth and maturity but Otep just insisted on being more of a cringey with each release. On the subject of Atreyu, they have always been mid tier to me but they just continued to put out mediocre attempts of stuff their peers frankly were just doing so much better.
Otep just lost sight of things and got too pretentious and weird for her own good. Its a shame honestly.
Filthee and Blood pigs were good tracks back the day. They just got to much TDS today I swear one of there last albums was about Trump it was awful and will age terribly. I think Machine Head has the same obsession with politics to it made there work suffer.
Went Ozzfest 04 and heard about Atreyu being great. My friends and I saw them and didn't understand the hype.
Otep was at that Ozzfest and was awesome. For me after Smash the Control Machine just seemed few songs on albums after that were OK.
Last year Kim Dracula did a song on Sosmulas solo record (from city morgue) Kim Dracula surprisingly brought some deathcore screams and that was sick, but most of his stuff is too clusterfucky to actually listen to
I quite enjoyed the Immortal and Till The Dirt albums when they first came out, but have never returned to em since!
Welp, MM, I have to side with Steel Panther on this one. Sad we have our disagreements but we are still kin ❤
Having listened to Kim Dracula more than I probably should have, I’ve really come to like the end result. I had always liked crunkcore so this and Electric Callboy feels like a natural continuation of the sound.
Who else hated the Roger Waters version of DSOTM??
@@erorufurakku6378 as a matter of fact I did and it didn’t need to happen. The rants in between verses and the unnecessarily theatrical vocals at certain points killed it for me and the instrumentals were a snooze fest
I never even listened to it honestly, thought it was stupid for him to even remake it.
It’s by far the worst thing I heard this year. Admittedly I tried to avoid crap albums as much as I could this year.
I exposed myself to The White Elf and wow I couldn’t stop laughing at how unintentionally stupid the songs were. EAT MY ASS is now a certified meme.
I didn't even realize Atreyu was even still a band honestly
The way you described the Otep album is pretty much the way I'd describe 90% of metal albums in 2023 😄
To be fair, this year has had quite a bit of stinkers, but also bangers. I think by default possibly the best album of the year could probably go to Exul by Ne Obliviscaris or Terrasite by Cattle Decapitation. Let's just say this has not exactly been a great year.
@@branlopgar I should’ve said “modern metal albums,” because I didn’t mean 2023 specifically. I also have no idea what “by default” is supposed to mean in this context
It seems like Steel Panther are getting tired of their own shtick. My favorite (loosely) song from OTP is "Teleporter" and the whole premise of the first verse is "I shat myself and wanna leave" and I feel like that's just where they're at now.
All that these attempts at metal Christmas albums year after year are doing is proving more and more that TSO cannot be beaten at writing a metal Christmas album
Facts. Trans Siberian Orchestra just totally nailed that vibe and sound, so much so that even general audiences can totally get behind them.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial I’d love to see them live but every time they come near me it’s $150-200 per ticket :(
@@butcheredaliveI saw them years ago. If you can come up with the cash, it’s worth it. Fantastic show.
OHHHHH TO HATRED, MY SON, I CONFIDE IN THEE, I LOVE YOU. Worst of the year metal or otherwise let's goooooooooo
10. Shining - Shining (HEY HO THEY'RE GONE NOW LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO)
9. 30 Seconds To Mars - It's The End Of The World But It's A Beautiful Day
8. AJR - The Maybe Man (I've never laughed so much at an album I gave a 0/10)
7. Cleopatra Records - A Very Metal Christmas II
6. Cleopatra Records - A Very Metal Christmas
5. Dungeon Wolf - The White Elf (I hate morbid curiosity sometimes...)
4. Kim Dracula - A Gradual Decline In Morale
3. Lil Pump - Lil Pump 2
2. Otep - The God Slayer (WORST METAL ALBUM OF 2023)
And now, the moment you've been waiting for...
1. Tom MacDonald and Adam Calhoun - The Brave II (or as Brad Taste called it, Racism 2: Transphobic Boogaloo)
Also shout-out to Drake, Xoth, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Corey Taylor for being JUST as bad, but not bad enough to make the cut
Tom MacDonald? More like Tom MIDDonald am I right?
@@themetalmeltdownofficial HEYOOOOOOOOOO gottem
Interesting to know that Xoth was almost bad.
Holy shit Dungeon Wolf showed up on the list! Dude was just trolling you. I got into it with him but it was just fun spirited back and forth.
99% of the albums here blow major ass. I wouldn’t say war against all for me was one of the worst. But definitely a lackluster effort from immortal, I’d rather jam the first couple of records by immortal before even remotely considering going back to that one lol.
I bout fell asleep to the Immortal album. which is a shame because Diabolical Fullmoon and Pure Holocaust are two of my favorite 90s black metal albums.
I remember enjoying Outside The Spiral. But despite that, I also would rather have had a new Atheist record.
I'm honestly surprised I didn't see LIBAD from A7X listed here. A handful of other music critics listed that as one of their top worst metal albums of 2023. Regardless, I had heard of Kim Dracula, but thankfully, I didn't see him live when i saw A7X. Usually, I'm open to new music, but if you're an artist named Kim Dracula, I'm perfectly content with not listening to anything you put out. Great video! You definitely got a sub from me!
Truth be told I thought Life Is But A Dream was just fine. A lot of interesting ideas with an inconsistent execution, hardly the worst of the year.
@themetalmeltdownofficial I can agree with inconsistent execution when it comes to LIBAD, but I think that's what helped contribute to the charm of the album. I personally loved it, in fact, one of my personal favorites of 2023. Though, I completely understand the critics towards the album lmao 🤣
RIP Psycho Sinner... I guess Jeremy Spencer is off the hook this year 🤣
Feels weird in a way to not have Psycho Synner and Devil Daddy in here in some way, they've consistently DOMINATED the battle for 'worst album of the year' in the past few years.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Maybe Dungeon Wolf and Jeremy should do a collab... see if we can get a Robert-shaped hole through the ceiling haha!
@@lionlissauer7104 The universe as we know it would not survive such an unprecedented combination of delusion and cringe lmao
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Well never say never... we already had the guy from Trapt in a twitter beef with Danny Diablo from Skarhead u know? But then again, that wasn't so much cringe that was just straight up funny though 🤣
He's beefed with me too lmao, it was very funny. At this point beef is the only thing that keeps Trapt alive.
Kind of amazed one of the Banger reviewers had Kim Dracula as their AOTY
Dig the shades
You cannot convince me that Dungeon Wolf is a legitimate project. It has to be satire.
They continue to FEROCIOUSLY insist that they're not doing parody or satire and that they're very serious. Personally I don't know or care anymore, music is still awful.
I have to admit that Eat My Ass is pure comedy 😂
Its funny but in a 'so bad its good' kind of way. Dungeon Wolf in general is starting to feel like metal's answer to Corey Feldman, though not as endearing and WAAAY more delusional.
War Against All is Demonaz's life motto
Me personally, I felt 2023 was a mid year for rock and metal music. Nothing beats Dungeon Wolf for the worst release of 2023. I long for these videos at the end of the year. 😂🤘
Yeah that Atreyu album is total ass .. amazing video as always my dude! 🍻
Personal worst of the year:
1. Otep - God Slayer
2. Tom MacDonald & Adam Calhoun - The Brave 2

1 Everything Dungeon Wolfe put out this Year (see I told you Dungeon Wolf, you made the TOP of this list, good job take your trophy😊😊😊)
Ngl I totally forgot that Godsmack and Yes had new music this year lmao
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Yep, they were definitely albums, they were performed by musicians, then got recorded, it’s music for sure….
Of all the albums in 2023, they were definitely some of them
There was reason why I put the new Butcher Babies, Steel Panther, Liturgy, and Sleep Token albums on my worst list. I was going to put the new Godsmack on here and it is their worst, even by their standards but it isn’t metal so I left it off.
Damn shame six feet under didn’t release a album this year :/
Coming soon, I’m dying for it.
Do you think it will be titled Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Just for curiosity, i will make the contrary with the best 2023 albums
10-The Butcher Strikes back by Destruction
9-Hymns from the Apocrypha by Suffocation
8-72 seasons by Metallica
7-1982 by Sodom
6-Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions re-recorded by Cavalera Conspiracy
5-The Sick, The Dying and The Dead! By Megadeth
4-Hate Über Alles by Kreator
3-Scorched by Overkill
2-Make them beg for Death by Dying Fetus
1-Chaos Horrific by Cannibal Corpse
Definitely 2023 was one of the years of metal, with some really good releases on extreme metal like Make them beg for Death and Chaos Horrific, but in therms of mainstream or popular metal, it was a quite meh year, with the only 2 interesting mainstream metal albums of this year really being The Sick the Dying and the Dead and 72 Seasons, with a very decent and surprising return for metallica after 6-7 years of album hiatus.
Kreator and Megadeth albums came out in 2022.
@@livingdeadwax I wasn't able to pick more than 8 albums of this year, soo I added this two just to complement the list.

These metal Christmas albums never work. You should do a Dungeon Wolf interview though lmfao
I enjoyed the Immortal album but I agree 100% on the rest of these, that Otep album in particular is one of the worst things I've ever heard. And I'm with you on wanting a new Atheist album, come on Kelly!
Yeah Otep sucks dick. In my opinion she always made terrible, pretentious music. But this new shit… Wow. I never imagined she’d be able to top that joke that was Kult 45 😂
Jokes aside on Panther, Satchel and Stixx are really good
0:40 - If a young George Michael did metal album reviews.
Having heard none of these albums (and probably won't), my only disappointment of 2023 is Spine from Myrkur. Amalie Bruun can write better songs than that. This is the same problem that I've had with her first record: the lack of cohesion. But also, I feel like the pop influences took the charm of her music out and instead replaced it with predictable, lackluster songwriting. It's a shame, but I still like her music.
Kim Dracula sounds like someone tried to recreate Avatar from memory.
There is no way Dungeon Wolf is for reals. Bruh, I just heard it and I regret it.
They continue to FEROCIOUSLY insist that they are for reals lmao. Either way, their music is still shit.
As much as I dislike diablo swing orchestra because i'm not a fan of Avant garde metal but there were bands that I enjoy like Voivod, Neurosis, modern napalm death wish I really dig into but all these weird moment from some of those bands I find to be a bit not exciting thing to listen, they do blend in with jazz disco Symphonic and prog metal influence but one song by them the dating song sounds like a kids music and I never want that in my metal at all its a total joke stuff for me.
Wow i dint like a single bad album this year
Steel Panther feels like that "Is this a joke?" "Haha definitely" conversation
They remind me of MadTv’s inability to end a joke on the punchline and keep it going forever.

2023 has been such a mid year. most of the albums on the list reflect it so hard. no effort was put forth by anyone musically speaking. at least in 2020, people cared enough to be actively bad. The worst albums to me are the ones i feel i cant say much about, theyre there.
It hasn’t mid for death metal though, this year had SO MANY death metal albums to choose from
I liked the Immortal release....*shrugs*
Steel Panther really let me down with that new album... generally considered all their albums perfect up until this one...
Lol I saw Kim Dracula open for Avenged Sevenfold earlier this year, and they were terrible. Their music felt really cringeworthy and disjointed. Also weren't very good performers either.
I don't care about any of these. But i'll check Martys song. Oh wait, how Tim Owen's song is no good 😆
Otep lost me after Sevas Tra.
Yeah not much to argue against here, not very good albums, some I just thought were kinda meh and some were flatout horrendous

Its not the worst album of the year, and definitely not worse than other albums on this list from Dungeon Wolf and Otep. Its overhyped by fans, but overhated by many more.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial lol lol lol 😂 lol lol 👍
I actually like Immortals new album
Only one I dont agree with here was the Immortal album, I actually thought it was decent. It is distinctly mid-tier compared to their other albums, but I do think there are some good songs on there. The rest of these albums are indeed absolutely god awful. I think Kim Dracula wins the award for the worst album of the year for me, that album was so unbelievably awful it actually made me angry. Steel Panther was just sad, I love the first 2 albums but it's just gotten progressively worse for about 10 years now and this latest one was the lowest point so far.
I'll also throw in Take Me Back to Eden from Sleep Token, and Six from Extreme. I always give Sleep Token a chance to see if they finally do something I like, and I end up listening to an hour's worth of pretentious garbage instead. And that Extreme album is probably the most boring album I've heard this year. Hardly anything that I love about Extreme on it, just an album full of very mediocre, boomer-ish hard rock with the occasional killer solo from Nuno. If I listened to it completely blind I would've never guessed that it was an Extreme album
I remember hearing Extreme had put out an album but I decided to do everything possible to steer clear lmao, I'm frankly not even a huge fan of their so-called 'classic' material
@@themetalmeltdownofficial haha fair enough dude. Nothing will ever top Pornograffiti and 3 Sides to Every Story for me, but they could've at least tried 🤣
Very bizarre, I would say I don’t get anyone who likes Extreme not liking the new one. Sounds like Extreme.
Did you just say nucular blast? 4:55. Chill GW
Lol the Metal Christmas album are just all these older musicians just trying to get attention and make quick easy money. They know that what they're doing isn't interesting anymore compared to the rest of the landscape of metal, so they made this to say, "Hey! Remember us?"
I honestly think DungeonWolf faked their singers death. The 'new singer' sounds WAY too similar
(I do too)
I hate CrustMess too
Some real stinkers here for sure. That Otep album is at the top of my list though. Jesus Christ, what an awful covers album. I honestly think it’s on the level of Six Feet Under’s Graveyard Classics albums.
Completely disagree with steel panther being on this. The new album was really funny and On Your Instagram had me laughing while listening. The whole song really speaks to me since I have been in a situation like that. 😂
Also calling them sexist is ridiculous. I believe metal and rock music died when they began to mellow out and not sing about all the girls and money they got. People started to the view the genre as boring and then when rap started doing that, that’s why it got super popular.
Mate, thrash metal had aged WAY better than glam metal for a reason
Frozen Soul. It's just Bolt Thrower but boring with disgustingly overproduced pop production
bruh aint nothin pop about Frozen Soul and you know it lmao, stop playin
steel panther is just trying to be Spinal Tap but failing
Sleep Token was by far the worst thing i listened to all year
I got a funny feeling a lot of people are going to say the same lmao
Personally I think its overhated but I'm not gonna pretend its perfect either. Its got good ideas but clumsy execution.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial imo it's that weird case when the album is overhated and overrated at the same time

10. Evile - The Unknown
9. Metallica - 72 Seasons
8. Immortal - War Against All
7. Suicide Silence - Remember… You Must Die
6. Soen - Memorial
5. Liturgy - 93696
4. Butcher Babies - Eye for an Eye… / …Till the Worlds End
3. Steel Panther - On the Prowl
2. Sleep Token - Take Me Back to Eden
1. Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But a Dream…
Never clicked on a video so fast.
This has honestly been a pretty big year for shit music, even though we got a lot of great stuff as well. I think the bad bands out there took note of Psycho Synner's absence and decided they needed to step up their game.
Just my 2 cents on these:
1. Agreed, and I hate pretty much everything this band does.
2. Eh, I thought it was mid/disappointing especially after Northern Chaos Gods which was way better than it had any right to be.
3. Didn't listen, and probably for the better.
4. Didn't listen, I do like tech death though so it could be interesting.
5. Tbh I don't really give a shit about anything he does.
6. This is easily my #1. I would rather take an electric screwdriver to my eardrums than ever hear another second of this crime against music again. Psycho Synner/5 for me.
7-8. You can't pay me to listen to a Christmas album of any kind, much less 2 of them.
9. Didn't listen but if it's that bad I probably have no reason to.
10. Agreed, they're pure butt rock at this point.
I also thought Sleep Token and Godsmack were pretty shit, though the latter at least is not surprising.
Im a huge fan of immortal and this album was def boring as f%ck. Couple decent jams but big drop off.
I feel you don't truly *get* Steel Panther making this assessment. That's the entire point. The songs are supposed to be over-the-top stupid. It's like Brojob, only with good music. Brojob relies on one simple schtick "Oh you don't like our lyrics? You must be a raging homophobe". Yeah, no, your music is just terrible. Your triggering would be part of that. If they made a song about it, it would be funny. Steel Panther really don't give a shit and that's really what rock is about, is not giving a shit.
Otep has always been terrible. I mean God-tier double-barrel, full-blown awful. Her schtick worked in the early 2000s because her persona of "I'm a brutal man-hating mean woman who stands up to pee" wasn't taken over by the woke left.
Corey Taylor I think rides the coattails of his two bands to run this.
Christmas music is terrible, but that's because there are so few Christmas carols to do at all. The only way to truly appreciate Christmas music is to listen to Trans-Siberian Orchestra. That's it.
I have a feeling that you truly hate Dungeon Wolf because of how they annoyed you with the GETSOME tag and posting on your page, but I'm listening to them right now and what I have to say is what the fuck is this?
The rest of this list I avoided and for good reason.
Yes, the new Immortal is pure trash but so is the sabbath albums. Ido like Pure Holocaust, Battles, Heart, and Sons but their new solo efforts are garbage and should just quit. Abbath is the biggest clown in Black Metal and should just quit with Demonaz doing the same.
