Illmatic ice original name is john boy ice or just john boy he got the illmatic label from another cat from 40 side of vernon called chongo a legendary qb thug he started a crew called illmatics and since chongo and ice were close he added the illmatic to ice cause it sounded nice

What I respected about this dude is he kept it balanced... the wisdom on his intelligent hoodlum album what's with the essence of rap used to be about as far as balance you talk about conscientious things you talk about things going on in the world you talk about your past you talk about meeting a girl excetera excetera in my opinion that was the most balanced album I heard in years... Satan try to keep things one-sided but this dude as well as a few others was extremely balanced I would say Tupac was ballast as well as far as conscience songs and then songs about the street songs about your life songs about a female etc.etc that's what balance is a music and I hope some of the young cats think about that it doesn't have to be one-sided keep it balanced you can bring out all sides... once you put yourself in a box the cheat yourself out of Who You Are I recalled his dude having balance with his music
