    Do you have any tips for improving score? I've been playing on MAME with mouse with the sensitivities configured to be as playable as I can get it. Best I've scored is 44650, I want to get to 45k. The biggest places I feel like I lose time are blind corners where there's two cars side by side up ahead, or the big hairpin because that tends to be a mess, I have to baby through it and you just divebomb through it and I'm not sure how you manage.

    2 questions if by chance you make your way back to these comments: Do you ever use the brake? I think this is the only difference between the stand-up and cockpit versions, but its seems like all of the records are always cockpit. Also my pole position, and stand-up, never goes over 244mph. I'm certain I have the settings for speed correct, but yours goes to 245? - 3:57. Thanks, and amazing play!

    • @DanielYamnitz
      @DanielYamnitz  Рік тому

      Thanks! Nope, never use the brake. I think it just comes down to what you're used to between the cockpit and upright. I set all the current wr's on Pole Position 2 on my upright, there is a difference in the angle of the steering wheel and standing vs. sitting but that's about it. As far as 245mph, anyone can do it, immediately before you cross the finish line of the qualifying lap keep the accelerator down and upshift as you cross, it will show top speed as 245, but you never actually go 245 during the race.

    • @720zone
      @720zone Рік тому

      @@DanielYamnitz Wow - Really appreciate you taking the time to explain here. Thank you. Going to try out the 245 trick! I play my upright, but sitting in a chair. Thanks again!

    I can tell you're taking care of that pole position arcade machine, Lot of things can go wrong, Overheating and monitor burn in issues

    • @DanielYamnitz
      @DanielYamnitz  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely! I've got 5v and ground running to the test points on both boards to keep the edge connectors from burning up, I keep the back door open with a box fan blowing on the arII's and pcb when it's on. I also only have it on when I'm gonna play it. 8 years and still going! I've had to replace several fuses and fuse holders, a couple bridge rectifiers before I protected the wiring in the power brick from over heating. It's pretty solid now, knock on wood! I have no idea how these kept running in the wild without constant repair.

    • @DanielYamnitz
      @DanielYamnitz  2 роки тому +2

      Nope, never lift my foot off the gas. Are you playing original pcb or mame? Some of the things I do are impossible on mame. All my games are on an original pcb. I find with mame you have to let up or you will always crash. It's a control issue I think. The wheel doesn't respond as well to sharp turns.

    You have only gotten this score once, correct?
    The more I think about the Pole Position controversy the more I realize that the "1 in a million" extra car is very likely THIS (67,260). And I keep researching and looking at what everyone says about the event and it makes more and more sense to me that 67,260 WAS the fabled extra car. I have a lot to say on the subject of all of this. I hope to produce something with my claims and research... I MIGHT dispute the 67,310 on TG officially. I need to keep researching.

    • @DanielYamnitz
      @DanielYamnitz  2 роки тому +1

      Yep, only once so far. I've got 67,210 about 6 or 7 times. Always good when a fresh set of eyes researches this. Very interested in what you've come up with!

    • @AndrewgSpeedruns
      @AndrewgSpeedruns 2 роки тому +1

      @@DanielYamnitz The thing about the 67,310 is what you already realize honestly. Where did it come from?
      When I first researched this stuff a few years back I didn't quite know the details surrounding the 67,260. I mean I can't definitively prove that 67,310 didn't happen unfortunately, but I can point to a lot of evidence that 67,260 was scored at the tournament and also why Mike Klug/Les Lagier are misremembering or are artificially inflating their scores. I even have a theory as to how the 67310 appeared.

    • @DanielYamnitz
      @DanielYamnitz  2 роки тому +1

      @@AndrewgSpeedruns They were good, there is providence of them getting 510, 710, 910, 67k and even a picture of 67,260. There was even a video camera set up with monitor at that exact tournament, the 1984 vgmt. I was told it got packed up before the end of the day when "it" happened. ...but, I always wondered why anyone that played Pole Position for the sole purpose of getting a high score, a world record score, in Guinness no less, didn't seem care that it was printed wrong year after year. Or thought to turn the video camera back on when they would have known that score was Amazing. Or taken a picture, or anyone take a picture since the actual rules of the tournament required it. It's not like the score went away, it was at minimum the 'top score' on the attract mode until the game was turned off. and nobody cared. Printed wrong in every single publication, magazines, newsletters, Even Guinness, for years, nobody cared. That's a lot of not caring for someone who took the time to go to a tournament for which the specific goal is to get a world record. And then the score that's printed only ties your friend.. weird. Love to hear you theory about all of this! It's just so strange!

    • @AndrewgSpeedruns
      @AndrewgSpeedruns 2 роки тому

      Planning to write up a big thing once I have the time and put it all together. I may even make a dedicated UA-cam video on the subject if I have the time and motivation to do so.
      Here's a really good question that I've thought of: How come Mike Klug never submitted a tied 67,260 if he had a photo of his supposed performance? Klug would have noticed that Les' score was wrong and get it corrected considering Klug's name was listed for other games on the same magazine pages as Pole Position.
      You wanna know my theory? Well, Mike Klug did notice the Pole Position score of 67,260 by Les Lagier so he submitted the 67,260 photo as his own and everyone knows that Les scored 50 points higher so 67,310 was added: giving both a 50 point jump in score. It's just speculation of course, but this is the only thing that makes sense to me since a photo of the 67,310 doesn't exist according to Mike Klug, therefore it could not have been added later?

    • @AndrewgSpeedruns
      @AndrewgSpeedruns 2 роки тому

      That's to say, if a photo of the 67,310 doesn't exist then how could it have been added to the magazine? That's where the 67,260 photo comes in. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.
