I’ve been on interstate 405 in Huntington Beach Orange County and kept seeing San Diego as the destination city on the freeway signs even though interstate 405 ends in Irvine. Was interstate 405 originally intended to continue south of the i-5/I-405 interchange in Irvine to San Diego? Why does the signage on interstate 405 read San Diego despite it ending in Irvine?
California state route 170 was originally planned to extend into Beverly Hills and end at interstate 405 near LAX airport but why didn’t this happen? Why didn’t California state route 170 get extended south over Laurel canyon to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood?
LA drives are so beautiful, the mountains, palm trees, sunshine year round. Miss it so much and can't wait to go back

The "San Diego" signs on I-405 guide drivers to continue south on I-5, which goes to San Diego. I-405 was never meant to extend there.
