Another one of the great voices of country music that got overlooked many times,,but he continues to please and entertain people all across the US,,,,he is a close friend of one of my good friends from Memphis, Eddie Bond,,,Eddie always spoke very highly of Narvel, keep up the great blessed work,,,,Downtown Rickey Brown, Jackson, Tennessee
They ain't no singers today that can even come close too those from the past, I don't even listen too the radio anymore, I listen too CD 's of the these oldies from days of long ago.
You got that right. I found Mountain Country FM 94.3 in Mountain Home, Missouri, that plays traditional country music on the radio and world-wide on the web. .
I had the chance to meet Narvel when I was a young DJ at the country station in Flint, Michigan and was invited to MC his show at the Whiting Auditorium. He sounded great then (early 70's) and still sounds great today. Man what a voice!
I'm not sure how I missed out listening to him all those years but I'm doing my best to make up for it-beautiful voice. Funny how time slips away is my favorite.
This clip is from the 1985 Wembley Country Music Festival and the commentator (BBC2) introduced him as "Narvel the Marvel". Couldn't have said it better myself. he is an absolute star of Country. Wonderful man and music. Thanks Narvel.
that is a real fact this man is and always has been the greatest singer in the world and i mean bar none his voice is of the finest and clearest i've ever heard im sure glad i got to meet him and his new bride .
On this day in 1976 {May 22nd} "Lonely Teardrops} entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #62 and spent 4 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #5 on Billboard's Country chart and also #5 on the Canadian Country chart... Two other versions have charted; the original & the greatest by Jackie Wilson, peaking at #7 in 1959 and by Brian Hyland, #54 in 1971...
Yep...................International Country Music Festival at Wembley. Always worth the trip for a few days. The interviews with the artists, usually done in the mornings were always good fun and interesting. Artists could let their hair down and chat, (wonderful in a pre- internet age). Wally Whiton and David Allen often fronted these sessions. This is David Allen's voice at the end of the clip. The Great Narvel Felts.............................I was there to see this performance... His Drift Away is superb....but then so is Dobie Gray's (different interpretations and worth a listen)
The great thing, friends, is that with the internet as this, we can bypass the old dying gatekeepers as cable TV, the "big" TV networks that never appreciated stars as these for the most part. They can have their crappy TV shows with 12 minutes of commercials for every 18 minutes of programming. I spent most of my time online and have shut off cable TV, saving me about $110 a month, or $1,300 a year which is $13,000 for ten years I will save by having shut off cable TV. You get a lot more better stuff you can't find on TV here on the internet.
