Abe Cunningham, their drummer, is my favorite drummer of all time. Not the most technical or most recognized, but he lays down some of the most original, memorable beats/grooves. Very dynamic, knows when to slow down, speed up, get loud, get quiet, and he loves him some ghost notes to go with his second to none power.
Elite actually earned them a Grammy

@@JimNewstead Definitely of it's time. And a real standout in the genre . Nu metal was big at the time, but these guys always seemed to be on the fringes , much like Faith No More in the 80s.... Probably why they so often are compared to them.
Love how you mentioned Radiohead- it was because of this album that they were nicknamed the “Radiohead of Metal”. Love how Kid A and White Pony both came out the same year and both signaled a switch in each bands’ style/direction.
This album is an absolute masterpiece. Released 23 years ago. No other album by any other artist since then has topped this for me.

For a different, more spacey side of these guys I have to recommend the song Rosemary. One of my all time favourites.
unexpected! love deftones. this is the “best” record but my personal favourite is Koi no Yokan. but all their records are unique and good in their own way 👍
Hope it's unexpected in a good way! It must be obvious to anyone watching my videos, there's no overarching grand plan or ambition on building a brand or massive channel. I kinda just lurch from one thing to another with whatever I fancy at the time! Perhaps with a bit more focus, this could be a BIG channel with hundreds of thousands of subs, endorsements and earning an income. That's not really me though. I just wanna hang out with friends and listen to music! Glad you enjoyed the vid, and thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. It means a lot. I'm just a bit sad I can't answer every comment left - I don't have the time or mental space to do that!
Agreed. Koi No Yokan is the one I go back to the most. Love that album and it's so underrated.
You should definitely do the rest of this record and all of their records on camera. They are all so different and amazing. One of my top 5 bands of all time! 🤘
There's something really therapeutic about listening to vinyl records compared to good ol' Spotify. Not to mention that physical collections has a certain charm to them.

I remember I heard White Pony when I was about 15-16 and it really opened up a whole new world of music for me. The digital, grungy, sound bath just washed over me. Love this album.

Excellent choice. I got this album as a present 21 years and one day ago for my 23rd birthday. Still one of my all time favourites though I don't listen to it nearly as often any more. Hope you'll do a full listen, love to revisit this.

Hey Jim! I think you should give Death - Without Judgement a listen, seeing as you did one of their songs a long time ago and liked it, I think you'll really like this one too. It's a really beautiful song, both musically and lyrically.

Personally koi no yokan is my favourite album by them all tho I do like all their albums apart from the latest one couldn't get into that one.
You're probably leaving one or two great tracks for your next video, fyi! Rx queen, change, etc etc

If you’re not, we’ll… that wasn’t even supposed to be on the album. That was recorded after the album came out and released at the beginning to make them seem more “nu-metal”

It wasn’t on the vinyl…. Maybe a CD version? It’s an altered version of Pink Maggit.
Back to school wasn't the original first track, Feiticeira was.
Back to school was deliberately jammed into the album 3 months after it was originally released.
Their label wanted a Nü metal "radio hit" that could rival Limp Bizkit, Korn and Linkin Park...
They forced them to record it, otherwise they would've stopped marketing the album.
That track is completely out of place compared to the rest of the album because Deftones were trying everything to distance themselves from Nü metal.
I have to say that I don't care for this. Not a fan of the smug, overaffected vocals.

The music doesn’t ring a bell, so I didn’t hear any of these songs.
Would I buy this album…? No!
1st song: Guitar is a bit boring; drumming too. I really don’t like his singing.
2nd song: different and a bit better but I still don’t like it. A lack of musical fantasy. It could have been so much more.
3rd song: rubbish.
Metallica is also loud and heavy but they are a hundred times better at least.
