I've been looking for this video. Thank you for posting it. I took mine apart, cleaned and lubed it per your video and it is better than new. ( The "tentacles" were dry as a bone.) I was hesitant to do anything until your video, thanks again.
I am sure you also cleaned any rust out of the tubes and sprayed lub down them them and addressed where the water was entering the system. Love your work and explanation. I saw a previous comment and love, love, your cart. Maybe a video about it in the future. Just a little side comment. My grandfather would tell me “boy you have to slow down to speed up to get things done”. I really did not understand what he meant until latter in life but you seem to be going 90 miles an hour and I totally understand why but consider what my granddad said. Love you brother!
Another GREAT video. I enjoy seeing how things work. Taking apart something that isn't working right, fixing the problem, and reassembling it to proper working order is so gratifying.
No buttons on the end of the pusher springs, up inside the legs? That takes some of the fun out of it. Other than the acme screws it looks a lot like a Goshen lift system. Good job Darren
Been a looooong time since I owned it but the lift system reminds me of the one on my 1997 Dutchmen popup--same spring lifters and tubes to raise the roof. The system had a name, but danged if I can remember what it was. Great video.
I have that system on my palomino, and it sounded just like that before your service. It is on my pickup and I'm not going to remove or slide out partially right now. I bought spray motorcycle chain lube and drilled small holes in the tubing For the spray tube to fit into and sprayed in the holes. Then went inside and sprayed down from the top of the cables. I can't reach the cranking mechanism until the the camper is slid back so will tackle that later. Operating the mechanism now is quiet with much less friction. The Chain lube is sticky and will stay awhile. When the camper comes off the truck I will then do it as seen in this informative video. Until then I feel much better about raising and lowering the roof
I did the full maintenance on mine and it was not difficult at all. Just make sure you have a full size table in front of the camper to lay out the parts.
Very interesting video....thanks! Consider adding a "drum roll" sound affect just before testing the repair, and maybe "crowd roar and applause" sound affect when the test is successful. 👍
Rust and debris are going to be inside of the pipes that you left on the camper as well and brake clean or carburetor cleaner in a spray can would have worked much easier after wire brushing then foaming degreaser. Hope this helps
Excellent video, very informative! I have the same camper except mine’s a 2004 Pine Mountain. I’m not having any problems with the lift system but was looking for maintenance information on it to prevent such issues. I was also curious as to how the system worked and your video gave me a thorough understanding. My camper is on the truck and I don’t want to take if off, not having any problems but I would like to lube the system for preventative maintenance.
Great video. I am in the same situation with my lift system. But it is identical to the one you have just maintenance. Except mine had a sheared pin on the gear assembly. Also mine is made by L&W engineering which I think that one is too.
So without putting those brackets that hold the pipes flush to the bottom of your camper back before you started ratcheting I don't know if you can see it but at the end of the movie the left hand side pipe on the front is moving and being pushed down by the spring inside of it because it doesn't have the bracket supporting it while you're turning the lift and pushing the roof up. I would not recommend cranking the roof up without those brackets on the bottom of the camper anymore they're actually there to support the force of the spring pushing up is going to want to push the pipe down and that is the only thing holding the pipe in place where it's at the bottom of your camper
Great Video, we have the same system..but ours didn't go as planned. Looked great, but we believe the Shuttle (white thing) is stripped inside, because the passenger side of our 2012 Palomino Real Lite Camper will not raise and if we crank it while system is on the table, it will not move the springs (rods) much at all. Do you know where we can get the Shuttles?
I have a problem with my own. Is the ratchet part of the crank a 2 peace. My is cranking well and goes up and down, but will not stay up. I pulled it apart to see and it seems like my problem is that where it cranks at from your video it seems like your seems to release when you turn to left and rein gauges when you turn to right. I am needing help to figure out how it works. Thanks for any help you can give me . Thanks
Have you ever been able to find a company or a parts breakdown of this unit. I have an 02 starcraft, my unit looks the same but no identification on it.
I took everything apart on my 2010 Palomino Bronco 800 - same lift system - and even replaced the broken gears and pins. yay! But now I'm having problems getting the cables/coils back into the tubes....for instance, at the far (door end) of the camper there's almost a 90* angle in the tubing, and even after greasing the coils, I'm not able to get them to fully insert...any suggestions?
we are having the same problem. Top (front) ones went in easy, still fighting with the bottom (rear) ones. Any one have any suggestions that might help?
Lift up the roof more. That worked for us. Also make sure that the lift mechanism is in fully DOWN position before reassembling it and reinstalling it on the camper.
I would have sprayed brake clean all down the pipes and put some grease in those too or at least some good automatic transmission fluid or motor oil after using the brake clean the brake cleaner will get things clean a lot faster you won't have to use as much as you did the degreaser and it evaporates usually before it can leak down through your table and on the ground spray foam degreaser is a different story and takes longer.
Hello My RVworks I am looking at an 03' Palamino Bronco with the same issue and it wont lift. Is it possiblt to convert this setup to an electric actuator instaed of the crank box? Thank you!
Hey, glad you like it! That's something I've been building on since the 90s. It started out its life as a Taylor-Dunn Stockchaser. I got out of a scrap pile where it was used as a donor vehicle. I started welding on it and modifying it to what it is today. These days it's got a variable frequency speed control on it, inverter, and obviously a lot of tool boxes. I'm running all of the control I/O through a PLC. You'll see it in several more of my other videos. If there's enough interest, I can do a video just on what I did to it. In my previous career as a commissioning and testing engineer, it was awesome to be able to drive it all over facilities to get to the different pieces of equipment I was working on.

How about a closer look at your cart and trailer?

Dude. That tool cart is awesome. Great idea
Just rewatched the video on my computer this time clear to the end, looked all over as you did for info, small world we live in Port Angeles,
Great video, couldn't find anything else

Merci merci j’ai passé 2 semaines à chercher sur le net …comment graisser mon mécanisme encore merci ❤
Wow what a great video. If I ever run across anyone that needs one of these fixed. I promise I will ref them to you lol.
Thank you, I have a 2005 Pine Mountain truck camper. and one of the ARMS is making a noise. now i know how to fix it.
Would love to see a video on that cart, it's extremely cool. Thank you sir
Hi Steel Traveling, thanks for the idea!

Great video.
You have to do a video of that cart. That thing is sweet.
Thank you for your videos!..as I live in one...I find them very helpful!!👍👍😎💪💯

Thank you for making this video. You did amazing great job!!!!
Good information
Thank you for this video! I have a 2007 just like this.

Thanks for the suggestion, Larry!

Okay great info. I like to see that tool cart you have that looks handy. Is it powered to help you move it around. 👍
We'll consider featuring it in a video!

Thank you very much for good video might have sheird a pin on gear on mine. Hoping take mine down soon. Great job! Thanks!

Great video! I'm so nervous about taking things apart that I don't know what's inside!
What kind and brand of grease did you use?

same here and the diagram does not show the latching system very clearly. Like how which side of the gear and how much tension

Is your portable work station battery powered?
Could you give some details of it?
Thanks

Where can I buy replacement parts? My white “shuttle” is broke in half.

Actually that sticker violates federal law, is called the magnas and maw act.
what kind of tool cart/buggy is that, you have?

@@MyRVWorks I like it, it is leagues beyond my gorilla tool wagon.
Screw the camper... Tell me more about that badass toolbox!
Throw those springs in a electrolysis bucket for a couple days.
