Is your child a picky eater? Does your child constantly THROW FOOD ON THE FLOOR?!
    This video is for you!!
Here are a couple of tips and tricks for helping your little one overcome being a "picky eater" through exploring new foods, textures and flavors!
Step 1) Turn off the iPad and TV during meal times!
    - This greatly reduces your child attention to food, flavors and textures!
Step 2) Increase EXPOSURE to new foods by using a TRI-SECTION plate and providing a new food at every meal! AND incorporate food in play!!! (put strawberries or pulled chicken on your child's favorite toy train and play choo choo with them!)
Step 3) REPLACE the behavior of throwing food on the ground with placing food gently in the "No Thank You" bowl (that you make!) Keep this bowl in sight/reach at ALL times throughout the day!
    - MODEL what you want your child to do over and over again!
These tips and tricks have worked for BEHAVIORAL feeding concerns.
    Other important considerations:
    - Oral-Motor Disfunctions (apraxia) can limit or make oral-motor movements and coordination difficult to chew CHEWY foods - seek direct speech therapy for this
    - Sensory Issues - seek OT for sensory integration activities and/or therapy

Thank you for the advice about removing TV or iPad while eating. Makes a lot of sense and I will give that a try. I've been binge watching your videos - thanks for helping us first time mommys!

My grandson would pick up the no thank you bowl and throw that on the floor along with his plate, he is so fast you don’t even see it coming. Most of the time I just put a few pieces on his tray, if it’s something that needs to be in a bowl I just give him a small potion in case he throws it. He is 25 months

Just a few pieces sounds like a safe bet then! Does he normally throw his toys as well? They also make silicone bowls that suction/attach to the high chair or table!

Thank you for the video. My child only eats with me if he watches ipad or very busy with his toys, otherwise he doesn’t focus on eating. He gets easily distracted. It is different in his daycare. She made them fear of her somehow, so they sit quietly in their baby chairs and eat whatever given. I noticed my son swallows sometimes without chewing when she feeds him, even when I can read on his face he doesn’t like it but is scared of her. With me he chews forever, if its not mashed or soft like cornmeal or a porridge. That makes both me and him tired. Takes too long to feed him.
He looks at the food and decides if he likes or not. If you force the first spoon, and he decides that actually yes, it is yummy, he eats it partially at least. If he doesn’t like the texture or taste, after I force the first spoon, that is it, I don’t offer it again. Will definitely try these advices. I tried playing with food, but cannot do messy things around my apartment, and still he is not gonna it eat, tried it. With blueberries and cherries, I remove the skin and give to him. He likes broccoli when it is cooked till its soft.

Are there any other foods that he does not like and are they being consistently offered?
Will he eat them in veggie pouches that look like applesauce pouches?
Have you tried using a first/then approach like “FIRST one corn” and “THEN cookie” ?

Help! My baby is 14 months and the only thing she’ll it is puffs crackers or an apple. Anything else she’ll refuse or throw a tantrum because I offered her something different. She only eats purées good and formula because she’s not getting nutrients. What do I do??

But it sounds like the distraction of the TV helps kids be a less ‘picky’ eater 🤔

    • @TheSpeechScoop
      @TheSpeechScoop  3 роки тому +4

Hey amber! Thanks for the comment, I could see why it may seem that way! I only speak from my own personal & professional experience that although kiddos are distracted & it’s okay in the moment, it makes it more difficult down the road & I’m often called in to help children with “behavioral feeding” problems & the one thing that all of these little ones have in common is that they all watch the tv or ipad when eating 🤷🏼‍♀️ I would just recommend doing some research of the pros and cons, I could provide some research for you but it’s always best for everyone to do their own to form their own opinion! I do wish I would have clarified a little more in the video for the reason you are saying! :) best of luck!!
