This is one of things I put on my list to fix in my house this year. I bought the kit over the weekend but I'm having more difficulty than usual finding the joists in my home. I'll try the vent guide late today.

Try using a deep Scan Stud finder, was having the same issue in my living room worked great. And figure my house wasn’t per code because they were all over in the wrong measurements.

Have you ever misfire like not hit stud? Will it still work

Yes sometimes that happens but if the fasteners don’t hit the joist then the noises in the sub-flooring won’t go away.

I purchased this online and used 250 screws in one room, which has actually made the squeaking worse now. Is it possible that it’s so tight now that the original nails are loose and squeaking. Ugh, so frustrating!

Nate I’m sorry to hear that, it sounds very frustrating. I had a similar problem in one of the rooms it’s like the Joist was shorter or not where it should be had to use a number of screws for one spot.
But If the floorboard is tight against the Joist there shouldn’t be any separation causing the squeaking. I also went in at an angle on some of them Rather than straight down that seem to help with the stubborn spots.

@@NOLLEKEntertainment how far of an angle did you go in at?

A stud finder that has a deep scanning option also works very well. If that fails measure the distance from you side walls. I hope that helps

Wouldn’t recommend randomly screwing screws in to a floor blind to cables pipes etc

I guess I got lucky? But then I understand how my house is built and how joists works.
Find the Joist or hire a professional
      joist
      noun
a length of timber or steel supporting part of the structure of a building, typically arranged in parallel series to support a floor or ceiling
