I think the experiment of it all is what draws me to gardening. I have been gardening for a LONG time and each day is a new experience. Your channel is so user friendly and you keep it flowing without freaking folks out. Much appreciated. Thank you for sharing.
Another great video! I am a beginner gradener, just finised my 2nd year of gardening. You were my inspiration of doing serious gardening, specially adding flowers to my newly started veg garden. As we are in the same USDA zone, it helps a lot to try different things and keep track. Thanks ❤.
You have an awesome seed starting series! Idk about superior, but I really enjoyed using the Dollar Tree litter box as my planting tray. And I got a cheap vinyl table cloth to protect my dining room table that lives in my basement.
I'm one zone colder than you, so I'd love to see the upcoming seed starting videos. I only have space for 4 large trays, and I have plans for about 150 starts. I'm excited for January!
Having my morning coffee and watching! I am now purchasing things I need to get more involved in so this is timely for me! Thank you! It's still those darn gnats that are kicking my behind!!! I just bought that 10 pack from Amazon So far I love them!.
I have a large lot that I am trying to plant so I am planting seeds. I now have a bedroom being used as a grow room. I have been purchasing grow and shop lights and I like the shop lights better. I also have two heat mats which I will use when my house gets to about 65 to 68 degrees at night. Just purchased the seed trays recommended in the 10 pack from Amazon. I have used the little tools that come with it for other things than the trays. Also have the larger trays to hold different sizes pots, great for moving things around and watering pots from the bottom. Now I am looking for the sticky tags because the gnats are a problem. Will also try neem oil for the soil. I tried the mosquito bits but not truly satisfied. I am trying to sell some plants and don't want to spread gnats. These videos are the best I have seen and I have learned more here than anywhere else! So a huge THANK YOU!!! Not exactly sure how your Amazon store works but I am going to place an order through your link. I hope it helps you out.
Hi I just wanted to say thanks for the info about lighting and heating Matt's. Just to share about the matts. I bought they seamed like they weren't working and so I bought a thermostat control and for the 1st time scene I brought them they started to work. And my seedlings grew very good. Thanks again
Appreciate this video very much! Looking forward to your seed starting video and hoping that you will really go into some detail about fertilizing seedlings. I don’t usually have trouble with germinating seeds but they never seem to grow strong and healthy like yours do and the only thing I can attribute that to is fertilizing, how much, how often, etc. Thanks 😊
Lights, you can increase lumens by adding more lights. Two strips at 1000 lumens each is the same as one at 2000. Lower numbers means the light needs to be closer to the plant. More important is the Kelvin. 5000 minimum, 6500 awesome. Lower kelvins means yellow light, that's useless for plants. If a bulb is marked daylight a plant will like it ok.
I bought similar containers cheaply from temu, I use a chopstick to help myself plant the seeds and as I have no space to install grow lights anywhere I just keep my seeds on my bedroom south west window ledge (it accommodates 5 containers only so I cannot grow more than that). I put two kinds of similar flowers in each container and hope for them to grow under these conditions. I do not start my seeds before March though - zone 6B. In Europe our living space is most times a tiny space compared to the US so I have to manage that way
Thanks, I was hoping you would provide the info as I want to try to save some money on buying plants and I have grown some plants such as milkweed and cleome with nothing more than pots, soil, and seeds.
Amanda I have the Amazon starter trays like yours. I had my last seedlings become water logged (I was using seed starting mix which I won't after this) and I noted that the bottom hole is so small it doesn't drain well. Do you have issues with that? Also, this is a GREAT video and I have zero issues with germination even in my south facing garden window. But the issues I seem to have are AFTER germination. Have you done any videos on the "things that can go wrong and how to correct them"? I for one would love that! I told you before I have a BAD habit of overwatering and you were the one that said you water every 3-4 days if that! So am DYING to get going again to see how much better I get at this! Thanks for all your great help!
I can't find the Berger BM soil at my local places right now. Is it only at your garden center locally? I am interested because of my location and Zone (N Sherman). .
💚🌱🎀 What great suggestions for seed starting, and good for the Santa Wish Lists! I would love a soil mixing mat and an auger bit. Not sure I have been that good this year! haha
I have different sized augers that attach to a bit drill. They nearly broke my wrists binding up in my clay soil. So I hope you are looking for something different.

Aww thank you! Yes I enjoy the experimentation as well.
Well said…every season is a learning experience 😊

Ooo I’ll have to check that out!
Your gardening is on a scale that is more the size of my garden. Your seed starting supplies listed in your Amazon store are very helpful. Thanks!
I’m so glad it helped!

Thanks for the information 😊💚 I purchased the green small growing trays last year based on your recommendation and they work great 👍

Sounds like you’ve come up with a good system for you!
I’ll do a few this year my yard is tiny
You’ll have fun with the few!

Cleome and milkweed are harder to start so I bet you will have tons of success with the easier seeds.

Asking about soil blocking do you use the larger soil blocker or the smaller soil blocker. I was considering buying a soil blocker.
I used the larger one.

I had some people last year who they drilled bigger holes in the same seed trays and it worked great!
I do have a video on issues with seedlings … ua-cam.com/video/JQccApzsSSs/v-deo.htmlsi=Ypry9FfurWxlKWPb
@@shesamadgardener Ok, that IS what I will do--am quite sure a sharp edged utility knife will do the trick! Wish me luck and thanks again!

I’m wondering if an electric back heating pad would suffice? I imagine it’s the same concept as a seed mat. Thoughts?
I’ve never tried it … it would just depend on how hot it gets.
LED shop lights at Walmart typically have 5000 lumens and are around $20.00 a light.
Nice!

.
Berger has an online website where you can contact them and see if it is sold in your area.

How long do you think your 1020 trays last? I have the cheap ones and am very frustrated.
Mine are going on 3 years old.

@@juneramirez8580 I have clay too---was hoping it would make digging easier!!
😂😂😂 hope you made the good list!

Hi there!
What is soil blocking?
Just a process of using a mold to create blocks of soil to start seeds in instead of the traditional seed cell containers.
I tried to order them and ended up with toothpicks without the loop...bummer
Well darn!
