His only problem was that he often forced throws down the middle, often in the red zone, leading to an easy INT. But I'd give him credit for trying to throw it in hindsight vs Fields' "one look read then run" style of play.
I always thought he was underrated. He was dangerous with the right system. Not a great QB, but certainly someone who could take advantage of a talented team around him. Hopefully Fields can be the same and we don’t run him out of town without giving him a chance.

I highly recommend watching his interview with pat mcafee. I think a lot of people's opinions on him would change. The thing about the media and fans is they set far too high of expectations. I remember him basically being expected him to be MVP caliber and anything less than that was underperforming or disappointing. When a QB early in their career is often getting sacked and having to deal with heavy pressure it kinda leads to forced risky throws. That also leads slower development and create some undesirable habits. And since he had such massive expectations, it was going to require having to hit (and thus need needing to attempt) some of those throws with tight windows, or else they'd ultimately take a bunch of sacks or thrown away balls. I think a lot of people fail to recognize the logistics and realities of situations because we think we know more than we actually do...Kinda like all the armchair scientists/medical professionals that emerged during the pandemic.

I standby the fact Jay cutler got robbed. The fact he had to learn a new offense every single year is a huge reason he never developed. People forget Aaron Rodgers has only had to learn two offenses in his whole career. Tom Brady, only two. Jay cutler has learned 6 offenses in 8 years with the bears. And he learned another 2 offenses in Denver and Miami. Overall, that slows down the development of a QB. Second, cutler had a horrible offensive line forever. And third, cutler was made to be a drop back Quaterback when he was always better in the gun. And even lately almost all throwing plays come from play action or the gun. Dropping back with 6 or 7 steps, only sends a Qb to get destroyed with a bad offensive line. Not to mention, cutler loved Johnny Knox and Greg Olsen. Olsen was traded, Knox had a career ending injury. Cutlers 2 best years, he got injured late in the season. Just unlucky. Still, jay was a top 15-20 Qb almost every year.

Tannehill and Pennington are similar in the sense that they can be very accurate short, but horrible on deep passes. Culpepper was washed up by the time he got here. And every other QB since Marino has been absolute garbage not even worth mentioning. It'll be nice to see Stills and especially Parker do some damage deep this season with a QB who can actually get them the ball beyond 20 yards. This should open up the middle for Landry to feast even more.

To go along with that, he rarely works through his progression, it's either hot route or sack. Does this mean he's never thrown an accurate deep pass ever or moved out of the pocket once? No. Trust me I could make a 200hr long "highlight" reel of all his over thrown, out of bounds, underthrown, not thrown to a wide open receiver, long passes. And another one of him standing like a statue in the pocket when another QB would easily just slide around and avoid some pressure. Tannehill sucks. He's reached his ceiling. He'll never be anything other then a slightly above mediocre QB. He's proven he is incapable of addressing his flaws such as pocket presence/working through progression etc all the years he's been in the league. He hasn't learned by now, he never will.

As a kid i knew to expect him to always suck in the first half of games and it was super annoying
If only he wasn't SO injury prone Chicago would've been consistent playoff contenders, they always had a decent defense but never seemed to have a reliable backup🤷🤷🤷

Actually it is, i never noticed back then, but some throws from backfoot are so effortless yet so accurate too, literally what Rodgers does. If this Dude had an oline he would be playing today and would be a superstar

Jay was awesome! Too bad things just didn't line up for him in Chicago. Jay was a little brittle but played thru many injuries
'Brittle' meaning he got injured several times. Considering the pressure he consistently faced/felt, I think 'tough' is a better describer of how he played in Chicago. I attended the opening game at Levi stadium against the 9ers in 2014. Saw him take a hard, crushing hit to the chest. He later described it as feeling his sternum touch his vertabrae.
He then threw 4 TD's. You could call him many things, but he was no pussy
Grossman and cutler both had the best arms in football but man they threw a lot of interceptions
As a Broncos fan I miss Cutler he had a Cannon and was a great QB
So many throws 40-60 ish yards and were absolute seeds and he was either flat footed or leaning backwards. Underratedly hard
