CRAZY Public Bus in SUMATRA 🇮🇩 Medan to Bukit Lawang - Indonesia Travel Vlog
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2023
- When we first arrived in Indonesia we spent time exploring Jakarta, then we flew to Medan (the capital of North Sumatra). After exploring Medan we had to get to Bukit Lawang for our 2 day jungle trek looking for endangered orangutans! We could either pay for a private driver to take us to Bukit Lawang or we could take the public bus. As we're traveling on a budget, we decided to take the public bus. We had seen some reviews about the public bus that weren't very good, specifically that the Pinang Baris Bus Terminal was full of lots of scammers. Initially we thought that was the bus station we had to use, but after further research we saw we could take a bus from the Mawar Bakery about 1 kilometer up the road....we still weren't sure if this was correct or not, but actually on the Grab application it had the bakery bookmarked as 'bus to Bukit Lawang' so we decided to try it!
When we arrived at the bakery, there was already a bus outside that looked VERY full and a couple men were trying to get us straight onto the bus. We had planned on going to the bakery first for some breakfast/water/toilet so we went there....the bus waited for us outside of the bakery! As they didn't ask for money we decided to jump on and got what we thought were the last seats on the bus. Taking the bus from the Mawar Bakery was a very good decision as we got to skip out on the entire Pinang Baris Bus Terminal!
We heard the bus ride should be 3+ hours, but we were pleasantly surprised as we arrived in a little over 2 hours! We think that was possibly due to our bus being EXTREMELY full so we didn't stop to pick up many people who were waiting at the side of the road. Honestly some of the seats (the little stools on the floor) weren't the most comfortable, but once we were able to move to the bench part it was a decent ride! We arrived safely and so did our backpacks on the roof! We expected to pay 30,000 Rp each according to everything we had seen online, but once we got off the bus we were charged 50,000 each....still better than a public car would have been!
Once we arrived in Bukit Lawang it was actually much bigger than we expected! There were so many hotels and restaurants, as well as lots of people which we weren't expecting! There were men at the bus station to transport you to your hotel, but we decided to walk. It was about a 20 minute walk from the bus stop to our hotel (Sumatra EcoTravel Bukit Lawang) and we stopped on the way for food.
Overall, if you're on a budget, the public bus is worth it!
Stay tuned for our next episode from our 2 day jungle trek!

Ok
That bus ride gives me such an anxiety !!! I applaud you for being humble and enjoys everything despite all the circumstances....Kudos to you !!! Hope it is all worth it and pray for your safety while exploring my beautiful country ❤❤❤ My favourites couple Nat and Carlos
Aww thank you! 🥰🥰🥰 if we had to do it again, we'd do it the same way! We're having a great time in Indonesia!
Watching you guys in that minibus like.. lol 😂🤣
I'm indonesian too lived in east java, but never seen anything like that, so full until the co-driver had to climb to the roof 👏😱🤣
Right?? Every time they stopped to get more people we were like 😱😱😱🤣❤️
Hello guys. Actually I'm very happy that you finally chose to visit Bukit Lawang, because on the way to get there you passed my house. But, I'm also a little embarrassed by the state of infrastructure, services, and modes of transportation in the city of Medan, or so-called Parijs van Sumatra. Medan is indeed the third or fourth largest city in Indonesia (depending on the source) and is the largest city outside Java. However, in terms of progress at the level of infrastructure, modes of public transportation, and services in tourism, Medan, in this case North Sumatra as a whole is still far behind our brothers and sisters on the island of Java. So please be advised. Enjoy your vacation in North Sumatra.
Thank you! ❤️ we had an amazing time I. Bukit Lawang (video coming soon) 😍 but we were surprised that the only options to get there were this bus or a private car! Oh well, it was still a good experience 🥰
Nice video guys. Great to show the local bus to show other tourists it’s not as bad as some people say! Mawar definitely the best choice to catch it, and 50,000 is pretty standard for foreign tourists, so you didn’t really get a bad deal. Looking forward to seeing the trekking, and excited to see when you make it to our hometown in Lake Toba!
Thank you!! It was an experience, but we’d do it again! And that’s good to hear that 50,000 isn’t bad!
hell yeah, i would love to pay 3 usd just for experiencing how hectic that public transportation was, sure it might be one of the most uncomfortable moment i put myself into, but i think it worth to try atleast once in my lifetime.. i cant believe they just added 12 more people into the 15 normal capacity of the bus, that's WILD..
Lol it really was an experience!! 🤣 it wasn’t too comfortable, but we’d do it again ❤️
as a backpacker you really have to try the local public bus, nice experience for you guys 😁
It really was!! It wasn’t the most comfortable, but we’d do it again! ❤️
Longer video please. Honestly I love watching your trip 😍
Aww thank you 🥰🥰 the next video in Bukit Lawang will be much longer! ❤️
even I as an Indonesian would think twice to ride on a bus like that 😄
Lol really?? We would take it again to Bukit Lawang! 🤗

We also expected more options with how popular it is there! 🤷♀️
Have a good time . Keep healthy both of you, at this time the heat and rain Indonesia can't be predicted , keep vitamin C. #fyp #beautyindonesian
Thank you ❤️
Wow mantap bos 💯💞🇮🇩🇮🇩💞💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😃😁
❤️❤️❤️
Lookin so fun! stay safe guys!
Thank you ❤️
What an adventure! You keep a positive attitude during your travelling, that's nice...though I know that it must be hard using that kind of bus.
It was definitely an experience!! But we’d take it again if we were going from Medan to Bukit Lawang ❤️
is there any specific date, when you guys uploading? i'm just curious cus your videos is very exciting haha 😊🎉
We’re trying to do twice a week, but this week has been SO BUSY so maybe just once this week 😬😬❤️
Great and amazing experience...❤
It was definitely an experience!!
OMG.... its really crazy you both 😵😵😵
Go to Bukit Lawang by public transportation like that....😅
salute to both of you
We’re on a budget so we didn’t want to pay for a private car! And apparently it was either private car or this bus 🤷♀️🤣❤️
Enjoy your journey in my country
Thank you ❤️
Wou new vidio😊
🥰🥰🥰
You have to try Samosir Island, there has beautiful nature and very interesting cultural tourism. You both will love it
It looks amazing! 😍
medan should make good public transport to bukit lawang so tourists feel comfortable to come again .
kasian medan
Dah mcm di India dan Bangladesh
Sebenernya banyak yg udh bagus Bus²nya, tapi mereka naik yg Cheaper jdi ya gitu 🗿
Banyaaak bgttt bus baguss travel di medan. mrk mmg sengaja cari yg begituan, namanya juga adventure ke hutan yg udah sgt trkenal ini tmpatnya orang utan.
There isn't even good public transportation within Medan itself
Thanks for visit
Thanks for watching 🥰
You guys are the best ❤
❤️❤️❤️
🙏😊Good morning sunday Natalie and Carles,i miss you.❤❤😊
Aww thanks for still supporting us! ❤️❤️❤️
Natalie, your appearance in this video reminds me of my English teacher. You both share similarities in physical appearance and personality or behavior. You have the typical traits of someone who is loved by all students or everyone. It feels very comfortable to watch your video. Thank you for visiting Indonesia. I really hope your videos could be longer 😫 For me, this is too short. It's so entertaining to watch that it feels very short-lived 😫
Ah I actually am an English teacher, but I’ve never taught in Indonesia 🥰 and thank you!! ❤️ we should have some longer videos coming up soon 🥰
@@NataliesPassportHi Natalie, you are such a nice person. You disclosed yourself as an English teacher after so many people made comments on your video with broken English and imperfect grammars. 😂. Yet you did not once try to correct us, your viewers. Your videos are engaging because you freely talk to the camera as if we, the viewers, the only on audience. You sound sincere and genuinely curious in seeing different cultures and people. Enjoy!
Aaaaah love to see this, finally 🔥
Anyway, do you have any plan to visit Yogyakarta? IMHO I'll never forget my experience when I went to Yogyakarta (Jogja), what I feel at that time unexplained. I'm happy beyond happy, I'm blessed also when I spent my last holidays in Yogyakarta make me always miss that places. I wish I can visit that beautiful city again, in Jogja I had fun. Wish it was longer so I can visit more places but till we meet again cuz some memories from the places I visited 🩷
Thanks for watching! 🥰🥰 we'll have some videos from Yogyakarta coming soon too! 😍
Wow You guys are freaking awesome blended with locals, using locals transportation. I just smile when natalie sits at the back with the window open sooooooo local vibe....hahahahaha
You guys should post the video longer 15mnt it's not enough... by the way where did you guys find all of these places?
🤣 thank you! It was actually pretty comfy when I was on a real seat with the window next to me 😍😍 the next video will be longer! ❤️
As for where we find places…..🤷♀️🤣 we both love exploring and going to new places and have a MILLION places bookmarked that we want to go 🤣
Oh my God... you guys are fearless!
We’d do it again next time! ❤️
It's a pleasure to have an adventure with my beloved lover, have a nice day best wishes ❤
Thank you ❤️ we’re having a great time here!
Fist like and comment hehe ❤️🇮🇩
Thank you! 🥰🥰🥰
@@NataliesPassportyou're welcome ❤️❤️❤️❤️

We’ll be back in Indonesia next year! 😍😍😍 this bus was SO full, but we’d take it again! Lol we actually took angkots all over Indonesia during our two months traveling there ❤️
Yuo Indonesia fere amezing cool indonesia

I would say that's a crazy ride, even local like me would try to try better trasportation. LOL. You guys are really adventurous.
Honestly we weren’t expecting it to be so intense 😅 but it was a cool experience!! ❤️
Indonesia beautiful different Thailand 👍
Indonesia is so diverse! ❤️
while in north Sumatra, perhaps you can visit Kolam Abadi in Langkat regency. It's awesome.
That sounds amazing! 😍 hopefully one day!
Thank you for visiting the island of Sumatra, I'm from Palembang, South Sumatra, always support your video content, don't forget to visit Lampung, there are many beautiful beaches in Lampung
Aww thank you 🥰🥰 this trip we only visited North Sumatra, but hopefully next time we can visit more places!

You guys have to come to deli serdang, lubuk pakam. This place has so much good food
Aww so close to Medan!! Hopefully we can visit next time ❤️
You have to come to Kalimantung Island, too at Sibolga Sumatera....
We would love to visit Kalimantan one day! 😍
this bus remind me when i was in junior high school, driver keep looking for passenger till the bus full and i hate it, but recently no longer like this bcos there is Gojek n grab..
and recently modern bus here more comfortable in java, especially central java
Aww really, your bus was like this in junior high?! 😱
Keren bro 💪enjoy yh di Indonesia
Thank you ❤️
Bukit lawang must be enhance their public transportation... it becomes very international touristic.
We thought there would be more options!
when you get on that bus, you guys are true adventurers..😅😅😅
It was a great experience! 🎉
Kembali ke Jakarta tanggal 19 Juni akan ada pertandingan sepak bola FIFA matchday Argentina Vs Indonesia in Stadium Gelora Bung Karno.
"Visca Barca visca Catalunya.
Mereka udh di Sulawesi bro
Visca 🎉🎉❤️ we would love to watch that game! Unfortunately we can’t 🥺
@@NataliesPassport Yeah that's a shame😥

The real journey guys.....👍👍👍
It really was! ❤️
Enjoy medan
Thank you! ❤️
that was a great adventure ride the bus like that.
It was definitely an experience!! lol ❤️❤️
The bus remind me when i was a kid, bring back old memories, the ambience, the smell, the pain in the ass on that tiny chair the extra one oh good times 😂
🤣🤣🤣 yes, the little stool part wasn’t very comfy!! It was so nice once we could sit on an actual seat ❤️
The government of North Sumatera should "modernize", or " "rejuvenile" public transportations, from big cities until rural areas..Thanks a lot to Natalie & Carles for sharing this "interesting" video. For safety reasons, you may be better take a taxi or Grab/Gojeg cars, to go to your destinations... Take care & enjoy your adventures in North Sumatera. Take care.
I mean : old, poor public buses/cars/bajajs, should be "rejunevated" (replaced by the newer ones). Tks.
It would definitely make tourism much more easy there if the public transportation was upgraded! It was fine for us, but I could see some people not wanting to take public transit like this 😬❤️
North Sumatra government is inexistent.
Kenapa DAMRI tidak membuka rute Medan - bukit lawang ya, padahal sangat ramai disana
It would’ve been amazing if there was a Damri bus going there! 😍
@@NataliesPassport Indeed there should be DAMRI buses, because there are a lot of passengers there, while public transportation is rare or few. DAMRI is a government-owned bus service that serves areas far from urban areas and areas that do not yet have public transportation services. DAMRI bus ticket prices are cheaper and each bus has an ace so passengers are very comfortable. I hope that there will be a DAMRI bus service in this area, so that local and foreign tourists will be even more comfortable. 🙏
Mantap bro 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you 😍
Welcome to bukit lawang, nathalie and carles 😊
Thank you! 🥰🥰
I know you must be surprised to see this for the first time with that public transportation, how do they keep putting passengers in and seeing people get on it, it's one of the worst public transportation in Indonesia😅, I know it's your first experience and you didn't know it would be like that, Keep on being warm and healthy.🤞
Thank you ❤️ it was definitely an experience!! Lol 🤣 but we’d do it again! 🤷♀️
Actually im indonesian, and i just found out that there are still public buses like that... ooh guys thnkyou for the share
🤣🤣 really?? Where do you live?
Welcome to Medan ❤😊😊
Thank you 🥰❤️
Go to Banda Aceh n Sabang Weh island just 45 minutes by air or a night bus from Medan
Unfortunately we didn’t make it that far north, but hopefully one day! ❤️
I know that place,
Bukit lawang, Binjai City
Nort Sumatra, Indonesia🇮🇩
😊
Our next video is from Bukit Lawang (coming soon) 😍🎉🎉
You really did it. are your feet okay? the seats on the bus are very cramped.
Buses in Jakarta used to be like that in the 90's. Small and cramped.
In the past, my feet often went numb when I was on a bus like that.
Hope you meet orangutans.
😱 really?? That doesn't sound fun! I think the worst part was that my backpack that was on my knees was pretty heavy 😬 without that I think my legs would've been okay. But yesssss 😍 we saw quite a few orangutans! 😍😍😍 We're already working on the next video 🥰
Pasukan anti skip iklan. Hadir
🥰🥰🥰❤️
Try visit lake toba to the city of tuk-tuk.. It's beautiful
It looks amazing there! 😍
@@NataliesPassport indeed, you should try it
Hallo Natalie and Carles
From Tangkahan 😊
❤️❤️❤️
🎉public transportation to bukit lawang😊
❤️❤️❤️
the price is actually 25,000rp. usually they charge a little extra if you have a big bag. Even if it's on the roof. but not really a big deal.
Thanks for the info! ❤️
When you ride public transportation instead of rent a car, you'll get a real adventure. While you're still aroud north Sumatera, you can visit Lake Toba and Samosir Island as well.
Yeah, definitely! But also people are so friendly! We've heard some cool stories on crazy public transit rides 😍
nice journy
Thank you!
I've ridden that bus! haha that dude hanging out the side 😆 Bukit Lawang is beautiful though
🤣🤣🤣 we were so not prepared for the bus 🤣 but yes, Bukit Lawang is amazing! I really wanna go back to Sumatra 😍
We picked up a bunch of chickens and tons of eggs and veggies once ....:). Market on wheels
😱😱😱 lol. It’s crazy - we weren’t expecting a bus like this at all, but it was such an experience! 😅
They have better bus there but you guys should ask the local before jump on the bus 😀 but anyhow that's what ventures are like! But next time is better ask for the price first before get on the bus. Enjoy your ventures! 😀😃
Really?? We heard the only options were this public bus or a private car (which was expensive!). Also they said NOT to ask the price, just pay the 30,000 like we know what we're doing 🤣🤷♀️ it actually worked well on all the other angkots and stuff that we've taken here! 🤣🤣🤣
👍👍
❤️❤️
Ewwww that bus 🫣😖. Oh well, as long as you had a good time. 😃
🤣 it was an experience for sure! We're glad we did it though! ❤️
3:33 the bus ride is crazy, this North Sumatran is really extraordinary 😂
It was an experience! We're glad we took it ❤️
Well... That was some wild bus ride. Even for me as Indonesian myself 😅
🤣 it was definitely an experience! ❤️
@@NataliesPassport Once in a lifetime for sure 😂😂😂
It was okay for us, but it was an experience! Lol. Although you’d think there would be more transportation options considering how many tourists go to Bukit Lawang! ❤️
6:44 That transportation (elf) is indeed uncomfortable and unmaintained but it is faster and cheap than the usual bus 😂.
We didn’t know there was a different bus 😱 but this way was fast and cheap! ❤️
Thanks to promotion our country
We’re having a great time in Indonesia! 😍
ayeee visca barca visca catalunya!

Penumpang bus di Indonesia, walau SDH penuh masih saja mau naik😂🤦🤦dari dulu TDK berubah ubah
Sometimes we also prioritize time over comfort 😬 we were just surprised as this wasn’t what we expected for our first public bus outside of a city 🤣🤷♀️❤️
Now I am wondering where are you guys ? I've been waiting for the next vlog, are you guys just fine okay?
We’re in Sulawesi right now! 🤗 but unfortunately our visa is ending soon 😭 the next video will be up this weekend!! Sorry, we’ve been SO busy lately and our Bukit Lawang video was 3 hours 😱😱😱 so much work to make it shorter!! Lol ❤️❤️❤️
HAPPY WEEKEND ☕❤
Thank you ❤️ you too!
If you are asked to pay more PLEASE FOR THE FUTURE YOU HAVE THE DARE TO REFUSE or ask "is that for the normal price or only for tourists?" In all countries there are always dishonest people. And Take advantage of opportunities. So, you must have the courage to fight
Luckily we haven’t had too many people try to charge us extra. But it has happened a few times 😬❤️
Do you know the correct price? i think it is still rp.25,000. Yeah i agree.. better to check before you get on.
