These guys did an absolutely fantastic job with the restoration of Lee's headquarters. I visited Gettysburg in 2007 and remember being disappointed with all the commercial activity located immediately adjacent to it. This was in contrast to Meade's headquarters, whose setting was much more consistent with the time of the battle. Half of Lee's headquarters was a cheesy gift shop. Well done, gentlemen.

Back in the early 60's when I was a boy I found my 2nd great grandfathers Civil War musket at the Lee's Headquarters museum while on vacation with my family. I went back in the mid 80's to try finding it again but had no luck. He fought at Gettysburg with the 149th Bucktails and survived the war.

I was there in 1988. There were artifacts on display and one of the things were human skull fragments collected near Culps Hill.

I stayed at the Quality Inn in 1963 during the 100 year anniversary of the battle with my grandparents.I have color video of the visit as well as the Sutlers Tent across the street during that time! I also have B&W film from the 1940’s of the same area when my mother visited with my grandparents.

Also, regarding the dog house, they should put a name plate over the door that reads "J.E.B. Stuart," reflecting that Stuart was in the dog house with Lee during the battle.

Incredible job! My husband and I went up there for the 150th anniversary of the battle and it is one of the most well preserved battlefields in the country. We’re from Chattanooga Tennessee ( another civil war batttlefield and my husband was born on the Missionary Ridge part of that battlefield) but the battles around Chattanooga with exception of the Chickamauga battlefield a few miles from it are not any where near preserved as well as Gettysburg is

Gary and team I’ve recently purchased the adjoining parcel to the Thompson home. I’ll be opening a outreach center aimed at young families with children. It’ll be dedicated to bringing back the fun of the Gettysburg Battle. We’ll have a interactive arcade and rides for fun and education. Here’s what i’m thinking.
Pickets Plunge water ride. The main concurse will be Long Street…get it!?! genius i know. For a mascot & pictures we’ll have Loopey Lee. He’ll be a happy lovable loser type thats walks around saying Where’s Stewart!?! I don’t think Tom Arnold is doing anything these days. Heres the tie in w/your organization WHERES STEWART is perfect for the mueseum and you can provide the publicity!!
Ok you better sit down here’s the hook…A haunted Volcano, Much better than a little rocky hill don’t u think? (fireworks I didn’t forget fireworks) we’ll call it Joshua’s Chamber of Secrets. Kinda a Xfiles meets Harry Potter vibe. Very popular with historical researchers these days.
I’ve already have local mediums lined up to give lectures on the Ghosts of Gettysburg. Get this the stage will be a outifitted with actual stones from the devils den with dead soldiers that suddenly rise up as zombies! Ok i know by now you’re as excited as i am and want to get this moving. Please feel free to contact me with your financial participation.

Lee got whipped at Gettysburg because he took a backseat to the fighting! Putting everything on his subordinates and never once getting anywhere near the scene of action! AP Hill was missing in action and did nothing to support Longstreet on Day 2 and Lee strangely never addresses this? Ewell with most of Stonewall Jackson’s men who had previously with Jackson at the helm won many battles sets idle after Day 1 refusing to even use his artillery on Day 3 to support Picketts division? Ewell is content to merely contest Culps hill in a fruitless and counterproductive effort that didn’t aid the rest of the army in any way! Had Lee been present to light a fire under Hill on Day 2 and send in more troops to support Ambrose Wrights Georgians breakthrough in the Center following up Longstreet’s destructive assault, things would have been much different

The Battle of Gettysburg, like the entire Civil War, was a series of “what ifs.” After Stonewall’s magnificent performance at the 1st Battle of Bull Run, what if the Confederates had marched on Washington?

The reason is that God was on the side of the North. The Confederates were losers then and are loser today. While the Confederates were “whistling Dixie,” the Northerners “have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
