    Thank you so much for this! It is so sad that people do not understand what the Holy Church is and what the Sacraments are. I lived so much of my life outside the Holy Church and only became Christian in the year 2000. Now I still get teary when I receive the Holy Eucharist. These are difficult days. Going to weddings outside the faith is difficult indeed. Sad also are unbaptised children.

    Excellent Father!
    I am blessed I never struggled with my daughters getting married Catholic because it was Never an option, I told them "IF they didn't get married Catholic I would not pay for, or attend their Wedding" I held to that and will hold to that for my son also.
    I only wish I had been more forceful in the spouses being Catholic if I had it to do again I would have said that also. But we can work on the part of the son in law not being Catholic and pray for it too.
    May God bless and Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Joseph, St. Michael and St. Raphael guide and protect us in the days ahead!

      @Lacey Brower John 21:25 But there are also many other things which Jesus did; which, if they were written every one, the world itself, I think, would not be able to contain the books that should be written.

      @Lacey Brower : I hope what I'm going to share with you here can bring some clarity to your statement. Catholic literally means 'possessing the whole faith'. Before the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven, He gave this command to the apostles:
      "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, (meaning the whole world) baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" Matthew 28:19. It is from this command of Our Lord to teach and to baptize, that the Greek word 'katholikos' came from, because the apostles were told to go out to the whole world and share the fullness of what they had seen and heard when they were with the Lord Jesus. The Church that Jesus established came into being before what we know today as 'the Bible' was compiled. First there was a Church, a community of believers of Christ, who centred their worship on offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and who used holy writings the Jewish texts as well as the Apostles. Then the bishops who come after the Apostles, decided which holy texts being used at Mass should be compiled into what we know today as the Bible. See this Bible timeline >>> www.catholicbridge.com/catholic/timeline-of-how-the-bible-came.php

      @Lacey Brower wow I never saw it that way. Which books are in the Bible? I want to make sure I'm doing it right. Just give me the book, chapter, and verse of the table of contents and I can look it up myself.

    • @paisley293
      @paisley293 5 років тому +4

      @Lacey Brower : tradition and scripture go hand in hand. For example, the tradition to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was already happening before it was written down as a part of the Bible. When Our Lord Jesus said at the Last Supper He had with his Apostles, "Take eat, this is my body; take drink. This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:23-25)

On days when you feel weak, say a perfect (Golden) Hail Mary & try again tomorrow. Great saints went through the same struggles. Remember that. I can't remember the name of one such saint who said when he had great difficulty praying (for any reason), he'd make the Sign of the Cross three times saying, each time: "Blessed Trinity Help Me." & either he was able to continue or he felt at peace & could think more clearly & get rest to "fight another day"

      If Protestants truly believed the Bible as they claim to, they would be Catholic. All the Sacraments are there. Especially the Holy Eucharist is presented so clearly, even with the echo of the Protestant rejection of it. They seem to love the Old Testament, the old Covenant, better than the new. They should take heed of what happened to the men and their families who tried to be Priests, like the Levites, the ground opened and swallowed them all. If you truly wish to know and love God, beg mercy and ask for the Grace's to know Truth, attend classes to convert at a Traditional Catholic Church, not a Novus Order Church

Start by praying for them, and going to Mass often, daily if possible. Talk to a priest at a good traditional parish. And pray for the strength that you yourself will be a better example. I spent way too much time looking in the wrong places for answers to the issues in my own dysfunctional family, and my faith has turned out to be the best source. It's the lack of knowledge of the faith, which guides us as to how we are to live and why, that has been the issue all along.

    Before I knew Catholic teaching on this, the nicest wedding I'd ever been to was a Catholic marrying a Protestant in a public garden. After I learned the Church's teaching, I asked the Catholic if the marriage had been blessed by the Church, and the answer was, "No, it doesn't have to be. My priest told me we're married and don't need to do anything else. If my [spouse] offers to have the marriage blessed in the Church, that's fine, but it's not necessary." I'm not sure what the priest's counsel really was -- people often hear what they want to hear, and tbh many priests are not skilled in presenting authentic Catholic teaching without hesitation, so they take time to consider their words, which ends up just confusing the parishioner by conveying the message that everything is copacetic. I just wish I had known of this all along.

    What about protestants who marry each other in their own church? I thought their marriages were at least valid, if not licit. This is because there is no priest required for the sacrament of marriage (as with baptism also), any Christian can perform it, and the bride and groom confer the sacrament on each other. Can someone address this? Would it be sinful for a Catholic to attend such a wedding? We DO acknowledge them as married, do we not?
    And are Catholics to even acknowledge OTHER weddings that are NOT valid, like marriages following "divorce", and same-sex "marriages"?

      I will try to clear up the confusion. The Catholic Church teaches that marriage between two baptized persons is a sacrament. And of course, baptism is recognized as valid if it is done with the correct form and matter. Form means using the correct words and matter means pouring of the water three times on the person's forehead.

It is a very serious thing, which is why the Catholic Church insists on getting the parent's consent for babies to be baptised. It will affect them their whole lives. They will be bound to observe Church laws on marriage. Catholic baptism has consequences that affects a person their whole life. That why priests need to to secure reasonable hope that a baby will be brought up Catholic.
      A baby baptised in a Protestant church is not Catholic. He wasn't baptised into the Catholic Church, and therefore not bound by Catholic Church law or the Catholic requirements for marriage.

To be a Catholic parent, to consent to baptise, and bring up a child in the Catholic faith, is so serious a duty and obligation, that the parent will answer and be held responsible by God, at judgement, for how well a child was raised, treated, and taught by his parents. To have a child, let alone raise a child is already an eternal issue.
      Water baptism is necessary for salvation, that is what the apostles taught. That is why babies are baptised to begin with. Cleansed from original sin, redeemed, and made a child of God. As long as water is used, touching the skin of the person, with a trinitarian formula, Catholic and Protestants have the same baptism, but what equals membership in the Catholic Church is different. • @phoult37
      @phoult37 5 років тому +1

      I disagree. Let's say a non-Catholic marries, divorces, and then converts to Catholicism. The Church will allow them to marry again without an annulment since that person's first marriage was never valid. If marriage is a sacrament, then any marriage outside the Church is by definition invalid as it is non-sacramental. Just as you can't have a "non-sacramental" Eucharist, you can't have a non-sacramental marriage, despite what the secular society may claim.

    • @drillsargentadog
      @drillsargentadog 5 років тому +1

      You disagree on fallacious grounds. "If marriage is a sacrament, then any marriage outside the Church is by definition invalid as it is non-sacramental." That's not true; there is a distinction between invalid and non-sacramental. Abraham and Sarah had a valid marriage that was non-sacramental. St. Joseph and Our Lady had a valid marriage that was non-sacramental. Look up convalidation, natural marriage, etc.
