  • Piecing together the parts from 2 different X-1 cameras and a ROKKOR X lens made with radioactive Thorium. I was looking for random minolta lenses at bargain prices and came across this 28mm f2.5 for a very reasonable price. I didn't know it was the Thorium lens until I held it up to the light and saw the orange caste to everything in the viewfinder.

The lever of the finder that doesn't return looks to me indeed like a mechanical problem. That being said, I've read somewhere that they changed the operation of the lever on newer models so you didn't need to reset it when you wanted to put the finder back but I really don't know enough to tell you more about it. I don't want to use radioactive glass although I don't know if it is really harmful or not. Make at least sure you don't take it close to your eyes when it's not mounted on the camera. I have an XK which has the same sort of issues with the mirror lock. I haven't found a solution and I'm probably not going to put much effort into finding one because I don't shoot film anymore. I bought the camera because it is a relic from the past and, apart from the mirror lock problem, in a pretty good condition and cheap.
