I usually always save them because not saving them is kind of pointless the people that replace them dont really change much of the story
How else will we be able to troll them by disconnecting the call, if they’re not alive

I love how they made a small pause before Wrex's dialogue to show him thinking in his head about his decision.
It’s such a good detail. The small details of every encounter always stick out to me in this series. I think it helps I felt traumatized by this encounter on Virmire because my favorite squad mates were always Wrex and Garrus. So the fact that I had a stand off with one of them scared the hell out of me the first time it happened
Bonus tip: If you recover Wrex' ancestor's armor piece before heading to Virmire, the option to spare Wrex is always present.
I'm pretty sure when you get his armor you CAN'T kill him or he won't die no matter what dialogue you pick

Saving Talitha the Mindoir survivor is a feel good moment for me. No one should have to go through the pain she went through
It's a feel-good moment for me as well. Because in my playthrough I always choose my shepherd to have the colonist background so my shepherd and talitha went through the same thing. They're both survivors of the slavery attack on mindor
Damn right, while I really like your talk with your mom (in both ME1 and ME3 if you go Spacer) that mission alone make me always choose the Colonist background if I plan to go more Paragon, its just a great little mission
That is why all my Colonist Shepard's have a shoot first policy when it comes to Batarians

It's not talked about often but I feel a bit of peace whenever I can convince saren to rebel against sovereign it never ends well for him but in the end I like to think that we helped him recover a small bit of his honor before he died.
You should have bring Wrex, when you save the Rachni Queen. At the end of it, Wrex says "Great...Bugs are gonna sing songs about you...Mark my words, you'll regret this." :D
It's funny how squadmates in ME1 are designed so that one makes the paragon suggestion while the other makes the renegade suggestion based on who is more paragon and who is more renegade. While Wrex is the most renegade by default, you can sway him to be more paragon, and so when you bring him to Noveria with a more renegade squadmate (Ashley, I think), he'll actually be pleading for you to spare the Rachni.

Kaiden Liara Tali Garrus Wrex Ashley. So taking Kaiden and Liara result int Liara being the "renegade one" and with Wrex and Ashley he will be the "paragon" one

Saving the Destiny Ascension. Despite the human casualties and the
Council's enduring foolishness, it feels like a momentous event where
humanity's value and camaraderie is recognized as well as its seat on
the Council. The Asari captain's relief at the Alliance reinforcements
always tells me I made the right choice.

Being honest I put up with the council because I just want alot of war assets in me3 yeah I am just trying to get the perfect ending but if I was doing pure reandage I would have left the council to die... I kidding I just want to be a pain in the butt to the good council that like humans not the hater council that dislikes the council
My favorite part about helping the consort is getting the trinket then going to the prothean floating ball and reading the bit about the pre-historic humans. Such a good scene!
My favorite Shepard to play (colonist and solo survivor) always talks renegade, but chooses the paragon choices every time,
to stimulate her to be more afraid of losing the ones she loves and cares about and therefore has built a pretty high wall,
but that she still has not forgotten her own code,
with trying to help and save as much as possible, so no one else to keep the feeling she has.
So...Your shepard is like a Renegon?

Talking Wrex down is the best paragon moment in the entire trilogy! Wrex is freakin' awesome, and the salvation of the Krogan!
Not only paragon,you can also do it as a full renegade. It just changes the tone of your speech, but it's doable
I've played the trilogy as both Paragon and Renegade... and as much as I found Renegade a complete blast to play... Paragon felt more right cannonically for the game's story, and the most rewarding overall...
I've never actually played a Renegade playthrough. It goes against my inner nature. Although I've watched the videos and some of the Renegade options are hilarious, and yet some are full blown psychotic. Maybe I should do another playthrough dancing between the right time for a Renegade choice and the right time to do a Paragon choice. Regardless, I agree with you, the Paragon playthrough just seems more genuine and the right thing to do, without sounding to biased.
First time around I played Paragon, because I feel it more right as well. But I decided to just try how the Renegade was, and I'm kinda mixed in opinions. Now I just mix whatever Renegade options I find absolutely perfect to the situation... Such as: in ME2, I CANNOT remove the itch in the finger to headbutt the Krogan who complaints about Grunt going through the rite, because I just love that Renegade scene.

My cannon shepherd is a renegade that knows when to be a paragon. You get really interesting ending if you play that way. I got to cure the genophage and save mordin

I like convincing Mr. Keller to go into rehab in Negotiator's Request. He's just trying to do his best for his people but he had to be shown he needed help. Just so no to drugs.
I am not saving the council. I'm saving Destiny Ascension. I mean, imagine you are one of the maybe 1000 asari on board the ship is about to collapse. But you hear the alliance coming and you think you will make it and see your family again and then they fly by and don't save you because you have three assholes on board. I mean that's a little fucked up.

@@sokolov.legacy That's just the moral question at this moment. Save lives but lose your humanity. Or save your humanity but lose people. Or to put it less philosophically. Are you willing to save those who cannot save themselves? Or do you prefer to save yourself?
Especially when you realize that Asari live long lives, so they can live to tell the tale long after that particular generation of humans died provided they survived the events of ME3.
When I first played when I was younger I didn't even think about it in terms of saving the council the way it's presented is that sacrificing a destiny Ascension gets sovereign killed faster
I think when it comes to saving the Council (apart from the awesome scene that uses) is that you are not saving the three losers who hasn't listen to you all game, You are saving 10,000 Asari that crew the Destiny Accession, saving the council is an unwanted side effect of a greater good;.
Normally I save them but sometimes I go the most pragmatic Shepard who wants to save the galaxy from the Reapers so he holds back to focus on Sovereign.
I don’t think I ever realized there were no QTEs in ME1.
I'm not sure if I would call them quick time events, just time events, since it gives you enough time to choose if you want to or not, assuming you were holding the controller.
Yep, save the Council, but only because their butts are sitting on one of the finest warships the galaxy ever had, and a really valuable War Asset too.
That, and having a short-lived unseen all-human Council is a bit too depressing. Oh, and "Ah, yes, *Reapers."*
Addendum: The music helps the positive mood too, and I have a soft spot for the "Big Damn Heroes" and "The Cavalry" tropes.
I always save the Council, not because I like them but out if practicality. Destiny Ascension is a powerful ship it will be useful for facing the reapers.

@Big Dan Gaming I have potentially found new video fodder for you. When doing Tali's Loyalty Mission in ME2, if you go straight to the Alerei without talking to anyone, when you return the "Rally the Crowd" option is not available and the Paragon speech is different (haven't tried the renegade option). Seems like hidden dialogue for the more impatient runthroughs lol.
This got me emotional so fast. I still remember finishing my 1st playthrough as a paragon soldier, when M4 p2 came on waves of emotion shot through me. This game reinforced my desire for Righteousness!!!
You missed talking to the pregnant widow and her brother in law on the Citadel. One of the most powerful moments in the game, IMHO
In my first playthrough I let them keep Bhatia's body... but later I learned that not only do they not really get anything out of it, but Hindu tradition dictates that the body of the deceased should be cremated as quickly as possible. Serviceman Bhatia deserves to be honored in the traditional way, as she likely would've wanted.

When I first played I personally got great joy from letting them die as after all this was all more or less entirely their fault but in subsequent play throughs and indeed my main one I save them but I genuinely never feel good about it.
It goes to show how good the writing was in that game though that I found them that frustrating that I enjoyed killing them more than anyone else in the entire trilogy bar maybe the individual reapers in 3.
@@me5969 I like how they don't guilt trip you with the councel, they guilt trip you with the REST of the people on board. It's not sad that the councel died, it's sad that the rest of the crew died after learning help isn't coming through being hung up on. that's got to be depressing.
The best part about Mass Effect 1 is that many of these decisions can be done in a Paragon or Renegade manor making some of the decisions much more flexible making it more about how you handle the choice rather than the choice itself, for example you can choose to allow the alliance keep the body but the actual Paragon/Renegade comes from how you talk to Mr. Bhatia about it. Kind of wish they retained this in ME2 because you were pigeon holed into choices to maintain a Paragon/Renegade score. The Krogan Poet situation would have been a great minor choice where you could decide to get the couple together or break them up and then decide a Paragon or Renegade option to do it.
So essentially it's about how you handled the situation rather than the choice that you made.
I agree. The Story and Dialoge choices in ME1 are very good in this regard. Way bether than ME2.
@@mojom.9221 Not at all. The dialogue in ME2 is so much more complex and nuanced than in ME1. In ME1, characters are less developed and more shallow. These few paragon/renegade choices don't change that. I mean, after many quests you just a popup immediately after killing the last enemy? That's clunky.
I always get the temptation to let the Council die but I almost always save them.
You can also use paragon to convince samesh bhatia of the importantce of letting the alliance keep the body for longer - saving many lives etc and i think it does have some effect in ...me3?
Yeah that's what I did, too. Not sure how I got that option, though, instead of what's shown in the video.
Sarens redemption will always be one of my favorite moments in the original ME
Watching this reminds me of why I'm so excited for the Legendary Edition. The first game's graphics were crap, even for that time.

I like to mention a very important paragon in mass effect the colonist story for commander shepard because I believe that mission by itself is so interesting

The ones that stand out the most in this list in my opinion are the ones with Wrex and Kirrahe on Virmire as these have the biggest impacts on the story particularly in the following games.

Not really. Shepard only brought Saren's humanity back. It was Saren's own decision to end himself.
It's possible to let them keep his wife's body and convince him that it's the right thing to do and he will happily walk away knowing that she will have continued her service even after death and that she will still be saving lives
even though helping Samesh is a paragon thing to do the renegade dialogue option is hilarious. Actually that's the best way imo to play the game if you take advantage of glitches or multiple playthroughs to have every option available. make paragon choices but choosing renegade dialogue while making them.
I always bring Wrex and Tali with me on Virmire. Wrex because he needs to see how messed up the Krogan are, and Tali because she opens up a can of Quarian whoop ass on Geth. Incidentally, I always bring Wrex and Tali to save the Normandy SR2 from Clone Shephard. Their little chat in the elevator is so heartwarming and wholesome!

I honestly think Mass effect 1 was my favorite by far. The other two games kind of made Shepherd seem like a badass, but in Mass effect when he really truly felt like a hero and he had the best morals

For Mr Bhatia, i enjoy that theres extra dialog if you have Ashley with you. So many people miss this cause once you get Tali, Garrus, or Wrex - Ash is the first to go lol

Wether or not saving the council is as “heartwarming” as the other options… it’s certainly *badass* in equal measure. Both for the actual act itself, and what it means in the grand scheme of things. At least to me

I just wish the third one had the sane paragon renegade scale instead of just the reputation system. You can be both things when you have to be.
Personally, I use my paragon powers to convince Batier to give his wife's corpse to research, because to me it makes more sense. She was a soldier who willingly sacrificed her life to save others, and I'm sure if she could make the choice herself, she'd want the research on her corpse to save even more lives.

10:58 here's hoping they fix the bug that made how you did this quest irreverent in legendary edition (along with all the others that always defaulted to the renegade outcome).
You can fix the Conrad Verner bug by using save editor. ME1 makes a bug in save and makes both outcomes (paragon + renegade) as chosen. So by using save editor you can remove the renegade result from your save.
I don't know about other missions though.
To me, there are some Paragon moments can be Renegade and vice versa lol

Personally, I don't like the choice of saving the hostages from Balak; considering the worst-case scenario of Terra Nova in the DLC, it makes sense that "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few", and letting a terrorist who attempted to destroy not only a massive human colony, but kill a planet's ecosystem is a stupid decision. I always sacrifice them; may be renegade, but it's smarter in the long-run.
Only criticism I can think about this list is that you forgot to bring Wrex with you when you talked to General Septimus.

Saving lives is more important than burying a corpse. I think it's better to let the scientist keep it. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

But as the man in charge of the case says: From a true ulitarian point of view you might save many more lives with the dead wifes body. So I think it is a tragically, but much more paragonian thing to go back to the Mr Batiaer and explain him, why he has to wait for a while until he finally can burry his beloved late wife. (And at least you get a +8 Paragonpoints whith the ulitarian Way. How many Points would you get by doing hwat pleases the widower?)

I always save it sure the council were asses to you a lot of the time but you’re the first human spectre so they’re naturally uncertain of you and Shepard talking about having visions of reapers is hardly justifiable proof of their existence. Their skepticism for the most part was understandable. I don’t see much justification in letting them die and it just feels really scummy to do so.

Like in the second and third games they’re just pricks, but thinking about it in the first game ur an unproven specter from a race that has already shown a very aggressive nature in the galactic community. Especially when u spin the reaper tale. They had ZERO reason to believe the reaper threat was real and that sarin wasn’t just lying to the geth.
I prefer playing paragon but personally think letting the rachni queen live is a mistake; must be all the Starship Troopers and Roughneck cartoons I watched as a kid that makes me hate arachnid sentient bugs.

I don't think releasing Mrs. Bahtia's body is the right move. I think Alliance dude is right and the knowledge that her body can give will spare more lives. The way I play paragon Sheperd is that he wants to save as many lives as possible (utilitarianism, which is how I think I'd be if I didn't believe in God), which makes situations like the end of Bring Down the Sky difficult, but Mr. Bahtia's question is barely a question

I’ve always adamantly believed that letting the alliance keep Bhatia’s body was the right thing. The arguments in favor of returning the body revolve around nebulous rhetoric and are frankly selfish. Perhaps Mr. Bhatia doesn’t realize that by analyzing the wounds on his wife’s body, the Alliance could potentially save thousands of other spouses from going through that same pain he’s experiencing. This isn’t about the wife, she’s dead and could care less about where her body is, Mr. Bhatia is completely self-centered in this regard.

A list of Legendary Paragon moments in ME 1... you chose Kaidan over Williams. Something's wrong there.
Nothing wrong at all Kaiden falls at the max end of the paragon spectrum while Ashley is more on the renegade side so technically saving Kaiden IS the paragon choice.
