    $20-$30 I believe are appropriate prices for 4K’s. $35-$50 should be some type of type of special edition at the very least. And not it being just a steelbook or some unique cover art, but also with tons of features, and some type of souvenir inside like how The Warriors had those picture cards.

      and I think that is what is going to destroy physical media. The high price for 4k players made it so people don't buy them. They need to encourage more people buying, not less, for when they go this way, they will find the people buying will be less and less and less and less will be able to afford these releases and will just give in to streaming them

    I pre-ordered Abyss 4k and Aliens 4k through Walmart at $24.99 a piece because Amazon wasn't offering it early. Then when the pre-order went up on Amazon they were $40.00 a piece. So I agree that Walmart does put the pre-order price point right out of the gate. Where I think Amazon starts high then drops to around Walmart or other retailers price. So I think these are going to be around the price set around $40.00 a piece.

  • @budlight72

    @Ken I am with you on these price points. @21.99 I was in on 99% of Lionsgate Steels. Cutthroat Island and Red at 39.99? (I know Red is 2 films) Don't care for these movies that much to justify that price point. I will NOT be in on those. At 21.99, hell even 24 or 26.99 I'd grab them. Now I guess going foward, it'll be like all the others just picking and choosing what I want the most. They finally forced me to close my wallet.

  • @BIOHAZARDRUSGaming

    If they would’ve raised the prices from the $21.99 to $27.99, there would’ve been some pushback for sure, but it would’ve still been significantly cheaper than every other studio’s Steelbook editions. That would also be easier to explain with the “new retailer” excuse too. There’s be also still enough of a price difference between the new releases and catalog releases if the catalog release stayed at $32.99-34.99.

    I preordered the limited edition set for Witness on Amazon, and it ended up getting "lost in transit" somehow. And then after selling out of that, they had the gall to list the preorder for the standard edition (only the film), for a HIGHER price. $50 for a standard edition UHD Blu ray. Hope this trend doesn't continue.

    The MSRP is determined by the seller never by the stores. The stores can go lower and reduce their profit margin to sell more. Looks like Liongate just kicked us in the balls! Over my price limit for a catalog title.

  • @nickrobinson436
    @nickrobinson436 8 місяців тому +4

    Yeah, naw. At that price, I'm totally fine passing on stuff like Cutthroat Island entirely. I remember it being a bit of stupid fun, but it's likely something I would watch once more and then never again. Not paying that, even if the artwork is nice. Now... for an absolute essential title like most of the Tarantino stuff, then they have me by the balls. I'd probably pay $50 if that's what they listed them at. But then, those are things I know are going to get plenty of plays over the years.

    I tend to think they'll be adjusted once they release. The new Hunger Games was listed at $34.98 but it's now $29.98 and the tags in store for it shows the same thing alongside the normal 4K. It's far better than paying $40 a pop for these things for when they were at Best Buy. Remember when it was just $20 for new releases? $10-$15 for previously released movies? Oh those days.

    Rambo prices would be ok IF they were new to 4K. But since they have already been released in standard & steelbook versions, $35 is too much. I have the standard editions. I have no plan on getting these. This is the reason I didn't get into buying steelbooks years ago. Now that I started buying them, the prices go up and I will quit.

  • @metalgrinch
    @metalgrinch 8 місяців тому +3

    Wal-Mart needs to seriously work on their consistency. I've been hearing about Wal-Mart-exclusive steelbooks for months and I feel like different Wal-Mart's just don't get these. Some Wal-Mart's don't have steelbooks at all. My local one does have them, but have seen the EXACT SAME titles for months and months and months. Nothing new. So wtf walmart? Why release these in some stores and not others? Best Buy and Target never had this issue.
    Secondly, as far as Lionsgate, well... everyone sells out eventually. Sad but true. Either that or you can thank Brandon for the inflation. Uh, YEA I went there!

    Cutthroat Island Steelbook was £24.99 in the UK. In the last few months, most have increased from £19.99 to £22.99 for lower tier films. Most big releases £24.99. Steelbooks now £29.99 to £39.99. Unless it's a must-have or limited edition, I wait now for 2 for £30.00 or discounted as they can not shift them. Recently picked up Belle from Zavvi for £20 as they couldn't shift it for £60. Lionsgate is looking at the market and thinking if everybody else is selling at this price, why aren't we. That's how business works. Draw in the buyer with low prices, then run with the crowd. I know you put a lot of effort into producing your content, but the number of adverts has doubled over the last few months. That's not a criticism of you but you still need a return on your efforts just the same as Lionsgate.

  • @LeeTheVet

    I would consider the first Rambo but wow, $34.99 etc. for it is a bit much in my opinion. Lionsgate is spectacular in the steelbook artwork dept. for their releases.
    Catalog titles should not be $39.99. I'm not sure what they are doing for that. Perhaps they have to make it up to the artists that worked on that? lol It's too much on price point.

    Price is too high - likely press release is what they'd love to get so they share that, see reaction online, adjust down a bit. Walmart is likely cause of some of this, they control or demand a level of profit from their vendors, so they may expect to make X dollars, lionsgate wants to make X dollars, so that results in these prices. Will be interesting to see what happens, if they produce a good amount, these will likely hit discount, if the supply is limited, they'll sell at higher price as FOMO will kick in, limited supply will drive demand.

    When the 'release of Columbia Classics Volume IV was announced Amazon and Wal-mart both listed it at $215 dollars, say above what any of the other volumes have sold for. We were told by reviewers that this was a holding price and that it would come down. Well, here we are less than a week before release date and the price remains the same. I know I can't take the chance of it coming down in the next six days and then it doesn't an I and others would be stuck paying that ridiculous price when it sellls on other sites for $140 or less currently. I''m fed up with Amazon's pricing game and I wouldn't recommend anybody buying it there on the chance it will come down in price because it sure doesn't like it's going to. Do a story on What's up with that.

    The massive fluctuation in the prices for any given movie at any given time, just wreak of manipulating people to get more money. That a movie can be 30$ then 10$ then 25$, is just nonsense. They price the movies to get people who can't wait to pay more but make money off of any of them.
    People who can't wait pay 40$, people who can wait a month pay 30$, people who wait a year

    If you preorder the latest steelbooks at Target, the buy one get one 50% off deal works. I just preordered both with my target card for $24. That's a dang STEAL (no pun intended......ok kinda)

    These are massively overpriced. The Steelbooks aren’t worth $20 let alone $40. I guess since Best Buy decided to kill their stores by killing their physical media lines, Lionsgate is desperate.

    I'll definitely pick up the First Blood steelbook even though I already have the film on 4k. I can't resist steelbooks. I don't care about Last Blood. The series should have stopped with one film. Those prices aren't that different from what other studio's steelbooks are priced at. It was only a matter of time before they realized they were leaving money on the table. As physical media becomes more a collector's market prices are going to just go up. As long as we don't start paying laserdisc prices. I still remember paying $130 for Disney collector laserdiscs and $250 for the Star Wars trilogy back in the day.

      I do recall paying $199 for a Japanese Laserdisc of The Phantom Menace to add to my 1995 THX laserdisc Star Wars Trilogy ones.

    Idk it sounds like an experiment from Wal-Mart as it doesn’t have the reputation of a Best Buy. I personally think Wal-Mart is a trashy store, even with their decent prices. Just wow in my area yea but to have them priced this high even for such no so great titles like Cutthroat Island.

    I appear to be in the minority, but I really like the Red movies. I won't be pre-ordering them for $40. Avatar (2009) was one of my favorite movies of all time and I want the 4k collectors 4 disc set but I'm not paying $50.
    On the other hand, I don't think I'd be touching Cutthroat Island at $21.99, never mind $40.
    Disney overpriced all their streaming to physical media back in Dec. Easy pass. Picked up Moana 4k for $9.99 instead.
    Prices will eventually come down. Maybe Lionsgate will realize that they should keep charging $22, and sell in much higher quantities. Is it better to sell 10 copies at $40 or 100 copies at $22? I'm hoping this isn't a strategy to force poor sales, then complain the physical media collectors let them down. That would be a bull shit move.

    Boycott! Personally I’ll be very frugal on what I buy. If prices go down I may revert back to my frivolous days
