- Have you ever wondered about how to use the AHG Handbook for History and Science curriculum? American Heritage Girls can be an integral component in your homeschool curriculum, like it is in mine. The best part? You can tailor as much as you like for your little learner.
In this video, I will walk you through the four sections of your AHG handbook. We will explore the basic elements of the book so that you see how to make it into a curriculum for first grade science and first grade history. I will also provide some history ideas for first grade and science ideas for first grade so that you can see what types of science and history we cover.
Finally, I will discuss the questions we all struggle with…. “But, I am not a teacher, how will I know what to teach?” Trust me, you can do this!!!

We just joined AHG and starting our first year of homeschool. I have a Pathfinder and Tenderheart so we’ve been talking about using badge work as part of our curriculum!
Thank you!!!! I’m so grateful I came across your video. So helpful
We are going to do this next year. My middle child will be pi/pa and doing a group meet up once a week in addition to troop meetings and work on badges and use it as a model for reading, research, writing and projects. Older children doing events, presentations and projects. We have trail life boys too so just doing it for all the kids for trail life and AHG
super helpful thank you!
I love this! We use Gather Round for history and science and I’ve been pairing our units with badges.
That’s awesome!!! Isn’t it great how well AHG works with homeschooling! What level is your daughter?
Yes, it is wonderful!
She is an explorer but this is her first year participating in AHG. It’s been a great blessing to her. ☺️
@@brittbair8464 I adore AHG too!! My daughter has also grown and its been a great experience. We’re in a homeschool troop too which is wonderful because she’s been able to develop friendships with kids who also homeschool.
Awesome! I use it to supplement our homeschool almost the exact opposite of you 😅 only my 6 year old is in AHG and my 4 will join next year. We use Classical Conversations as our foundation curriculum and I have preplanned working on the corresponding history and science badges. We love to do living book read alouds too! Where do you find your living book lists per subject?
So funny how we end up with the same thing with different overaching ideas!
I loved this little walk through. I tried to get my 2nd grader into AHG last Fall and they never fully got up and running until the last couple of weeks so we jumped in at the end of this yr. she is so excited that we joined for the summer activities and will be joining next fall. I didn’t know that so much history and science could be pulled from the handbook... that’s exciting as we homeschool in CA thru a chart and have to turn in work samples. Great info and encouragement on standards... they scare me haha!
Thank you so much for watching and responding to this video!! I used to teach in California and I was an educational specialist for a homeschool charter as well.
I’m so happy you were able to get your daughter in a troop there. We moved out of California, it was right before the shutdown and sadly the troop we were in didn’t meet for the remainder of the year.
The troop we’re with now is entirely homeschooling girls, so it’s a great fit for us and I adore how the badges can be used for our school! They’re super fun and well put together.
We completed first grade and the badges we did fit our state standards well, but also would work with California standards which are pretty straightforward at this age.
Thanks for a wonderful comment and for watching!!
@@ChalkboardCreativeHomeschool so glad I found your channel, I subscribed and look forward to learning lots from you. We absolutely love our Teacher of record. Teachers are amazing people and I’ve learned so much in almost two years so far. God bless 💗
@@apl1515 oh my goodness-you’re soo sweet; thank you!! I’ll try my best to share what I’ve learned. Is there anything specific you’re interested in?? I’m always interested in creating content people are looking for!
Love this idea! Ive been trying to find a balance of earning badges and homeschooling 5 kids was getting a bit much but i never thought of incorporating both!
Thank you for watching! I am so happy you found this helpful!
Using the badges as a framework also helps me focus in what I want to cover. And in elementary school, you can get creative in science and history. What ages are your girls?
❤
Do you guys belong to a troop? I’m trying to get more info about how AHG works.
