- -I swear I could do these once a week they're so fun. Thanks to Scott for walking down memory lane with us. We were missing one member of Sanctus (Christopher) but we only have 4 mics. hehe. Next time perhaps. Thanks for watching.

This was great, awesome way to start off my birthday weekend. I gotta get on and check out those movies you guys mentioned, I think they've been on my 'to watch' list for about a year now haha. Loved all the stories you guys have, a Part 2 would be awesome. I noticed the date on the poster Scott passed around is todays date.
Sanctus shirts, awesome! Would be sweet to have one, patches would be pretty cool too I thought haha.
I worked in the twin cities for a couple years and only became aware of Impaler. This was great to watch and learn about the history I didn’t know
This was great!! Loved to hear about their local scene and the fact that there is video of what happened is a very nice touch. Also since you guys are childhood friends the stories are connected in a special way that makes it entertaining and fun!
So fun to hear your stories from the past with the band... great studio btw.
It was way too fun to get together with everyone! The years went by really fast!
This was great, really like this podcast format you did mike!
Awesome video, I always love the old Minneapolis metal music stories.
So glad I tuned in for this! Was fun to hear my old band mentioned, and to see that old Metal Massacre flyer.
Wow!!! So cool to see this. We shared a practice space with Animosity, Inc and Scott was one of the nicest guys.
Love the video! Keep this going!💪
Awesome way to start the weekend 🤘
Indeed, great way to start my birthday weekend :-)
I lived in the burbs so the only MN band I remember was The Regime from hearing one song on the radio, which I think was on the KQRS Friday Night Midnight Metal Shop. (around 1986) I liked the song, but being a teen out in the burbs with no metal friends I never heard anything from them again.
You can still find a couple of albums and shows on UA-cam. great band!
Wow! This was fun to watch, it brought back lots of memories. I’m still bummed out that I lost my Animosity cassette
Thanks for doing this Mike, its not often I feel like a kid again :)
Holy shit, this is my late high-school/early college youth. Animosity played at a talent show at my high school, which Andy, the guitarist, went to. I still have my "Beneath the 13th Stone" cassette! I remember going out to see Slave Raider at some bar that... I barely remember, but I think it was out in the boonies and it looked like a big pre--fab shed. Earl Root was just one of the coolest guys, hosted the best radio show. The only way I could've liked it more is if I gave a shit about Frank Zappa. Decker was... an interesting character. Watching this was a goddam trip. Great discussion, wow. I played briefly with local punk band Destroy! in those days. (Oh, yeah, and I was at that 7th St Pantera show, too!)
I would love to sit in with you and share some stories from back in the day with Snafu and Binge.
Holy crap! What memories! Those damned Sanctus kids were kicking all of our old 23 year old asses! Lmao! ~Aaron btw
(Sic) had Eric Freitag and Nick Miller who went on to play with Kataklysm "temple of knowledge"
Ha! The Shredfit shirts! Shred the World! 😀
I’m surprised no one mentioned the OG Minneapolis Metal Lord Earl Root (The Root of All Evil KFAI). Earl hit me up on MySpace with his bald Simpson’s character meme profile pic and thought I had some really great music…then he passed a few weeks later. Glad I got to experience the 2000s-early 2010s metal scene before it died and moved to the suburbs. Everyone hated everyone’s band, drama galore, and everyone played in Cold Colours at least once.
I swear we talked about Earl. Like 99.99999% sure.
Fellow Minnesotan here, 17 and starting a band with some buds. I'm not sure what I'm getting into but I'm hyped
Yo I didnt know you were from MN! I hope you do more shows about the MN metal scene. As big of a dump as it was, I really miss hanging out at Station 4/Ryans/The Lab. I used to practice with bands in the practice spaces upstairs, kinda amazed it took so long to get condemned haha.
That was a fun discussion to listen to. I was tickled to hear coon rapids and northtown get a couple mentions, since I went to elementary at LO Jacob before I moved to Vadnais. ;)
Hahaha love the Jay Kruger shout out. 2020Sound!!
Northtown used to be fun.
Jeff from powermad plays in a cover band. played at the Osseo legion. played CCR and stuff.
My theater in my home town was really cool cause there was no age restrictions to go in there. I saw a lot of rated R movies. Not sure if Trick or Treat was rated R but I saw it when it came out in’86 around Halloween. I was 10 going on 11. Fun flick.
Loving this podcast Mike, hopefully you're feeling comfortable doing more of these since you say you tic or are just nervous or something... 😅
It's weird not sipping on apple juice but I'm getting used to it. :)
@@TheArtofGuitar I'm happy to hear it Mike 👍
did you guys ever play at Robert's off 10 in moundsview?
No but I was in a few other bands that did. Country bands.
Trick or Treat soundtrack rules!
The Regime is a amazing band
I saw Pantera at the mirage 2 or 3 times and they always were great.
I can't remember if I ever saw Sanctus. Powermad 3 or 4 times and they were always amazing.
I think Coup were the band that had to play the all ages show and Mucky Pup couldn't play, so only got to see Mordred, and Mucky Pup only played the 21+ show.
This is crazy. I grew up with Jim Mecherle. I was at the Metal Massacre 7 show. Jim had me putting up flyers for that show, in our home town, Circle Pines, Jimmy had moved to Minnesota from Jersey in like 83, Jim later was a hired gun for Andrew WK and then moved on after Andrew WK kinda screwed Jimmy over. Music business stuff.
Jimmy later became a bit obsessed with Thin Lizzy, he had always loved the band but I think it clearly went to another level. He later met some people and ended up meeting Phil Lynot’s mom at a Thin Lizzy tribute show and then actually moved to Ireland to live near Phil Lynot’s mom. This is not bullshit. Complete facts. Jimmy would do acoustic Lizzy shows at the local taverns in Ireland, near his place and Phil’s mom would come to see him. FYI, Jimmy was an absolutely monster on guitar.
FYI, I believe the dude doing the head spins at your show at metal massacre 7, was my buddy Tony. I recall him doing that at the entry that night, the reason I remember so well, is that he was way too drunk to be doing headspins that night, we had been drinking since 3pm, but there was no stopping him lol. He did that at many shows back then. Kind of his thing.
I learn some guitar from you on your UA-cam channel. You have a great presence for teaching. Excellent speaking voice and you really present a fun and energetic teaching technique. Thanks and keep up the good work.
I miss the triple rock
No mention of the night regime milk lady?
That deserves its own podcast episode. 🤣
you're talking about early MN metal and Trick or Treat is on , and you don't mention Impaler Ep in the movie ??
Saving it for the Trick or Treat ep. Haha. Scott did mention Impaler tho.
@@TheArtofGuitar I remember when we were watching this movie and none of us knew it was in there.... It was a pile of Combat records releases... and the mom holds that Ep for a few seconds... Bill's a movie star .. Ha
Which one of those guys is the singer? I'm only familiar with Mike.
Bottom right, Alan Douglas was the singer and rythm guitar player for sanctus/MDC, and top right, Scott heddle was the singer for animosity and snafu
OMG
Hey what’s up man
Playing live was always just a waste of writing and recording time for me, hearing these stories makes me happy that I chose not to do it really.
Trick or treat Sammie Curr
amsterdam. . . I don't know if the management is what it is back then but they honestly 86 someone over just a stupid internet post. . . that will never be forgotten ever. if your going to allow people to be drunk and catty and have their way over he said she said then I honestly hope to god that place gets sued for discrimination down the line.
