Yes, SM has done that kind of switch in their songs for decades. Even before Rising Sun I would say you can count Tri-Angle in too. They usually are in the SMP genre (SM Music Performance genre) and it also includes: Girls Generation "I got a boy", HOT "We are the future", and a lot of others. You can also find in the smp the songs with social problem lyrics with also SuJu "Don't Don" or Yunho "Drop". They are usually produced by the legendary Yoo Young Jin. (sorry if I mixed some infos, I'm typing that from memory alone).
they originally debuted as an acapella group if you watch their hug and my little princess MVs but then they started doing more dance music too like “the way u are” and rising sun. so they can do it all: dance music, ballads, acapella, etc.
Yeah they went with more "stage name"-like stage names at that time lol (Rather than their real names, which became common practice) So the members would be: U-Know - Yunho Hero - Jaejoong Max - Changmin Micky - Yoochun Xiah - Junsu TVXQ (also known as DBSK if you see that name around) may be the OGs of the OGs, but they seriously don't make groups like them anymore. They had all 5 powerful vocals, sharp choreo; their skills were really top of the line. And it's thanks to their immense popularity that spilled over into Japan, that really kickstarted the "Hallyu wave", which would be the phenomenon of K-pop becoming popular outside of Korea (mainly Japan and Asia), that eventually allowed it to become the global sensation that it is now :D This song is just legendary, even when I was around in the 2nd-gen days (around 2010-11) I'd heard about this song and then watched a live stage of it and it's just such a wild ride lol Especially since I don't think there was really any major switch-up within a song like this until arguably "Sherlock" (SHINee) or "I Got a Boy" (SNSD), at least from my experience. As a result, no other songs really attempted to follow this song's template for most of 2nd-gen, and it stands as this one unique song in the industry even after all these years :o
Damn yeah, I can imagine how this song made its wave if it was the only one for a good 4-5 years using this style. TVXQ! was mad ahead of its time - or just the test bunny of SM, who knows. But hey, it worked and I f*ckin love this . Thanks for the member write up. Didn't know of the "Hero" name until today and even tho I heard "Micky", I wasn't aware who it was either lol. Somehow the others I knew of already
Exactly, it ended up as a legendary song either way XD Definitely I think the other 3's stage names have persevered bc they combined it with their normal names too. Like, I've seen "Max Changmin" and "U-Know Yunho" and "Xiah Junsu", but not really "Hero Jaejoong" or "Micky Yoochun" XD
FYI, Rising Sun live version has more switch that come after dance break, while the OT5 do metal, the Duo switch to something kinda reggae? I'm not quite sure of the music style though. But I do love the switch that only exist in live the most. It's refreshing.
Oh that's cool! Kinda intrigued by the Reggae version. But I think they showed that on MAMA this year? Iirc from watching it. Was definitely cool, although less Metal as you said ye
@@cru3ltmo Nope, MAMA is the remix of their hit song (Hug, the way you are, triangle, catch me, etc.) The reggae one is audio in Japanese re-recording version, but they also perform it live in their Korean concert.

SM has done weird switch ups for long time, didn't start with Aespa and then NMIXX wasn't one of the first to do it LMAO
Yeah... let's just say the existence of Music paved the way or something :D
This is actually from 18 years ago.
