Jack asked Mel if he could play the voice of a wild bear on his show, and Mel accepted. After a while, Mel said to jack "hey, you know i know how to act, too." And jack gave him a chance and Mel was funny, so he stayed on.
And that's how Mel got his place in jacks show

Jack Benny was a genius! When he turns his face away and looks at the camera was an expression that would be mimic by many other actors. And Mel Blanc was, and will always be, the #1 voice actor in the world!

I grew up with these guys. My father was cabin mate with Jack Benny (aka Benny Kubelsky) in the Navy on Lake Michigan (WWI). Dad was a musician and went on to play in orchestras accompanying many of the greats in Vaudeville. I'm now old as the hills, but I can remember all the laughter and horsing around with these guys. Love seeing this. Thanks for sharing.

Mel Blanc was also a very generous and compassionate man. Back in the early 60s I met “The Man of a Thousand Voices” himself. My family were at a corporate childrens' Xmas party at Casa Loma in Toronto. Every ballroom, hallway and stairwell of this real live castle was filled with musicians, clowns, magicians and jugglers...and a quietly-smiling, unassuming man in a neat dark suit and a tiny moustache. He complimented my little sister, literally a "babe in arms", telling her "Ohhhh! What a tweet widdle girl you are!" She was unimpressed and a little shy but I was thunderstruck as he turned to me and offered his hand burbling (and slobbering) "And what's YOUR name young fella!" Tweety and Sylvester... in the flesh! My Mom says my mouth did not close for a whole week after!

Jack and Mel first did their "Si/Sy/Sew/Sue" routine when they parodied "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" on his radio show in 1948. And every season, Jack usually found a new way to work that routine into his various radio and TV shows...and Mel ALWAYS cracked him up when he said his "flat" lines. This is from one of the filmed "new talent" episodes (an annual tradition on TV "live", taped or filmed), originally seen in December 1960 [Jack restaged this version again in December 1966].

to which a washed out Bugs replied, "yeh. ..what's up... doc?".

You've got to love the Mexican/Latino, if that sketch was making fun of a far east people or language it would be gone down a long time ago, Viva Mexico, viva Latino great culture.

I loved Jack Benny, but Mel Blanc was the most epic radio and TV voice actor ever, and his complete flat delivery here in a TV live performance...wow. He was amazing. RIP Bugs
