Hi folks, I just happened to talk to the Knipex product manager (I‘m from Germany) since - of course - I had the same idea, a smaller one, 160 mm = 6,3“. I was surprised when he told me how absolutely overwhelmed they are from the demand. The first 5 month all went to the U.S. only, was very happy to get mine today after 5 month delay. Lucky too, all the dealers will get their next batches in May or so. And there will be a smaller one in 2022... perhaps 2023. The capacities just can’t be expanded more, since Knipex makes some 1500 different types of pliers...
I have pairs of small sizes of the Cobra and Pliers Wrench in different mobile kits in 150, 125 and 100mm sizes. If I could pick which mini size was produced first on these, it would be the 125mm. The 100mm XS versions are amazing engineering and will fit almost anywhere but there are unavoidable limitations when you get to that size. 125mm seems to be the smallest size possible to retain all the functionality of the larger sizes. You (Knipex) have probably already made your decision on which size(s) you'll bring out first...whatever you ship will fly out of inventory, I am sure. Great pliers - thank you.
Agreed! I know this is 3 years old thread. But Knipex Twin Grip is becoming one of my favorite tools ever. It's so useful that it earned a permanent place in my tool belt. So, Knipex, please make a smaller versions of it! First, please cut off an inch from the handle and release a 7 inch version so it fits nicely with 7 inch tools.
The longer I own the twingrip, the more i found uses for it, as an industrial electrician, i found myself using the twingrip more often than the lineman pliers. Twingrip are also great at breaking the tyraps. The only thing it doesnt have is cutters on it
Twin grips are amazing. Even though they are longer (200mm) than mini cobras, they are narrow, light, and they are straight as opposed to a side facing wrench, so I find them to be easily pocketable. I have them on me always.
I pre ordered mine can’t wait, I’m a plumber and I can see myself using this on stripped screws on faucet handles, shower handles, faucet cartridges, shower cartridges, and I change many very often so useful for me, but I do agree a small size one would be nice especially if the handle was comfortable enough to get some good leverage would be perfect.
1:30 that spanner is also available as a bahco branded one. 1/3 the cost. Bahco 9029 for normal, 9029-T for slim jaw, 9029C for chrome. The 9031 is the 8” version
I have a different thing for begging. Knipex multitool. No knife or saw or toothpick or scissors. BUT with Twingrip in 6 inch. Telescoping tube handles with hex drive bits iinside. And wire cutter blades in the jaws. I ALWAYS have my SAK for the other stuff, but solid versatile pliers would be great.
I would love a cobra with a mutlitool type of handle with a screw/bit driver and knife blade on one side…and maybe storage for different bits on the other handle.
In the process of planning out a small tool kit for my wife’s car so when we take her car somewhere I’m not without a good set of tools to get emergency jobs done. That Milwaukee bag with random items is one of the best solutions I’ve seen this far. So much versatility in such a small space. Easily fits in the trunk with the spare tire. So it’s never in the way but always close by when the time comes.
100% agree Doc! I would get those twin grips in any size they offered but a 125-150mm would be great. Also, thank you for the tip in the other video! Contacted customer service and they are sending a replacement. What they lacked in packaging they made up for in customer service.
Wanted a set of these that I could put in my mini tool roll as carry-on gear when flying. I cut a pair of these down to about 6 1/2" so they're safely under the TSA 7" limit. It was easy and fast and I think the results actually work very well, though for my XL-glove hands it's now a 3-finger grip rather than four. I'll try to post a short video. There's an interesting trade-off between keeping the original size head and jaws and losing some grip space and leverage, on the one hand, and shrinking the jaws and gaining longer grips. I also think you could reprofile the handles and have the best of both worlds.
I need to order the twin grips! I think my late grandpa would like them, except they don't have wire cutters, and if he couldn't cut bailing wire at any given time, he wouldn't carry it. Knipex has that to improve imho.
Watched the announcement video of the small twin grips first and then got recommended this one. I might actually get those pliers. Already have the cobras and mini pliers wrench which I use several times a week.
I love mine…I used for screw extraction with ease…I also used mine to close a casement window since my window handle stripped…worked great grabbing that window nubby
IIRC, my SO slip joint 8" are the 137ACF. Nothing short of fantastic. I don't own many SO tools, and I'd buy these pliers again if I had to. They're that good.
Just got mine after 2 or 3 month back order (with comfort grip). You are correct a mini pair would be awesome, as I usually only deal with #8 or smaller button head screws.
I've been thinking the same thing! I even looked in their catalog but didn't see anything in a different size. Just regular grip and comfort grip would love to see a pair in the 150 or 180 size
I would buy a smaller one. The regular one is appealing but i have run out of space! My current shop is a 4x8 patio and my 91 f250 so mobility and compactness is key for my situation. Thanks doc.
I’ve often though a shrunk twin grip Down to the 4-5” range like you said but have the back of the jaw be the cutter could damn near put leather man out of business. I switched to a Swiss Army knife and Knipex cobra a long time ago because the pliers on a leather man are pretty useless most of the time but the one advantage they do have is the cutter.
Definitely love the small pliers, as an electrician they're much nicer to keep in my hip bags and i can have larger variants in my packout. The cobra 125's get used at least a few times every day.
this is true but the tool may not be viable in such a small size. look how thin the one jaw gets already with the room for screw extraction, and how small/sharp the teeth are in the jaws. they'd need to put a lot of money into redesigning the tool to make it strong enough in such a compact size - i doubt the twingrip pliers will become popular enough unfortunately to warrant the R&D required.
@@pbakai182 knipex are leaders in the plier industry. I’m confident they can scale it down, I don’t see anything too thin at all and remember when the tool gets smaller the user can apply less force to the components because you have less leverage. I think they WILL become popular enough for them to do it!
Nice video, but I think you made an error at 1:58 calling the item a Snap on plier wrench, when 2:10 shows that they are actually Knipex. It jumped out at me because I own that same tool (86-02-250) in the dark color as well as many other Knipex hand tools. BTW, I have the 8" plier wrench version (pretty small) 86-02-180. Keep up the good work sir. I see that a 6: version is also available. Knipex - 8605150 6" Mini Pliers Wrench, Ergonomic Grip
I've heard that the Snap On and Bahco are functionally the same but the finish is a little tighter on the Snap On. Sweden and Spain are the countries of origin for those tools. Where was yours made?
@@lastbesttool You're right yes, the finish is different. It's got a rougher, possibly black oxide(?)look, but only slight. But, the sides of the jaws are polished out silver in color. To be honest, I had actually ordered the 8" because it was half as much as the 6", but they messed up and sent me the 6". Sometimes Amazon screws up in your favor believe it or not lol. Oh, and it's Spanish.
I had an issue this week, small T10 head screw maybe M3 corroded in the nut, plastic housing al around and was wishing for a twin grip. Finally barely got it with a needle nose vise grip, with the tips twisting around… true application for the twin grip even better with XS twin grip, wouldn’t have had room for vampliers
“Imagine I just threw these in he dryer for a little bit….” Careful Doc, I’m pretty sure that’s how the tide pod challenge started 😂. That’s a sweet little bag ya got there. I was waiting the endless handkerchief chain to start coming out.
Both would be great on(loose)and rounded off nuts and bolts perfect for broken studs and plumbing and airline fittings great tools for all trades. no original vice grips in the bag.
I looked at these on Amazon and they are pricey, but look nice. I may get a pair. I really don't see the need for micro pliers unless you need to get into a small space I guess, but I rarely do, so I find the regular size pliers is what I need.
A mini version of the Twingrip would be great for EDC. I wonder if Knipex would also release a hybrid version of the Twingrip and the 08 22 145. It would be comparable to the triple joint needle nose pliers from Snap-on.
Pliers Wrench XS comes out in September! I think it'll take the cake for quite some time. Curious if you think the Twingrip or Pliers Wrench would be a better every day carry if you're only going to carry one wrench.
For me, it would be the TwinGrip. I found the mini plier wrench to be too limiting compared to the mini Cobra. The plierwrench doesn't open as far, and won't grab well on non-parallel sided things. Plus the adjustment requires more dexterity so it takes longer to use. Finally, the plier wrench has fewer first aid applications as far as I can tell.
I love my TwinGrips. They're a great supliment to my Vampliers collection. I want Knipex to put the TwinGrip head and put it on the Cobra handle; Knipex TwinGrip Cobra. A 5in version would be king.
Have you thought about using an angle grinder to make this into a mini tool? The mechanical advantage stops about the point where the red handles start and then the tool would fit into the EDC bag that you have.
Literally cannot buy these in Australia. They have been sold out since release. This size will be perfect for me but I could absolutely see myself buying a half size version too.
Yeah I haven't bought the twingrip yet for this reason. They're just too big for what I want and need. Give me a mini version and they'll be in my tool backpack always, but if I owned the full size ones they would never be brought to work and would just sit in my garage for one or two uses in their lifetime.
I cant wait to have this in my toolbox in my work this is the missing plier i need ! . We in Europe cant even get them yet :( . Made in Germany and the US sells them . The German border for me is 15km drive and i need to wait till sept.(come on knipex!!) The smaller i think Probably allready disigned and ready to go in production. After at least 6 months of selling the normal twingrip. The smaller one will come. I agree an 150mm not smaller . For me the cobra 125 is to small.
We may have to wait a while for a different size Twin Grip. They can't keep up the demand for the 200 as it is. In America you had them six months before the UK. I ordered mine at the beginning of December and they still haven't arrived yet.
When I last checked around here in America, many places were sold out, and the price had creeped back up. The only Twingrip I see on amazon is some outfit who lists the price for $47 and $25 shipping from inside US.
@@lastbesttool I would rather struggle without one rather than give money to someone charging that! I think they are so popular because so many people have the Cobras and on the odd occasion have thought, "Wouldn't it be handy to have a straight pair." We can all see how good they just from a photo. Looking forward to mine arriving in the next couple of weeks and totally agree with you, a smaller pair would be more than welcome.
I wrote to Knipex telling them a similar thing, maybe I just lack the vision but I don't really understand why 8 inch , I own the Fujiya and each time I had a use for them, I wouldn't had hurt that they'd be even shorter, so totally agree with you, they should make em in 100 lenght
I find that the 125mm Knepix Cobra, and Wrench Pliers are as small as I find useful. Those 100mm are just too small for the stuff I work on. Maybe they would be useful for HO model train repair, or jewelry work. Otherwise eh no.
Agreed, a smaller pair of Twingrips would be amazing! I do handyman work in NYC and carry all my tools in a backpack, one which is way too heavy (to the point where I've actually injured myself from carrying it..). I recently swapped a small pair of Engineer / Vampliers for the Twingrip, I couldn't resist the improved quality and versatility of Knipex, but I carry them mostly for screw extraction, and it's a huge jump in size and weight for something I only use rarely (since I also carry a pair of Cobras, a pliers wrench, a needlenose, and often a pair of Linesman and/or Knipex forged wire strippers..) They could make the Twingrips a lot smaller and lighter and they'd still do everything I need and more, be much more useful, and I could leave the big ones at home. An XS, stripped-down version (like the XS Cobra) would also be awesome and a great EDC item, more useful than the XS Cobras, but that would be a lower priority than a smaller full-featured version.
I know it's silly but their name choice is all wrong too, I think twin grip can only create confusion with the twin force, keeping with their them of 'animals that have a good bite' cobra alligator ect, they should call em Piranha
Get the Bahco wide jaw crescent wrench, same as Snap-on without the premium price tag. Snap-on adjustable pliers wrench is a dead set knock off from Knipex.
Agree with everything you said except one, you shouldn't try that twingrip or even the cobra on the nut. Use the plierwrench . The mark of a genius is knowing what tool to use for the task at hand, in every walk of life.
The snap on wrench is not as good as what they copied. The Bahco 6 is more durable, grips better, and doesn't rattle. I work in the field and used a black 9029R Bahco ($26). I missed placed it 😢, but it will show up. I purchased the snap on because the truck 🚛 was around.... Not happy with it after 2 weeks. Check it out for yourself.
You must live in a dry climate because if you had to deal with rust, those toy tools would be pointless. Love my knipex but the law of the lever is inviolable.
@@omicrondec I was commenting about the first part of the video, the ''big nuts'' part.. I know they are completely different in area of use, both great pliers though!!
Doubt it will work. It would need to be designed small from the ground up. I tried cutting pliers down to a smaller size and it doesn’t work. Here’s the video: Size Matters: Making and Testing My Own Stubby Tools at Last Best Tool ua-cam.com/video/2MogFJHmYVs/v-deo.html
These pliers are “neat” ‘n everything but it’s just.. they’re not that special. Reason? They’re just straight cobras…. Take a set of Knipex Cobra’s and bend the head straight forward and grind some lines on the tip of the mouth for screws (I guess)… and you got the very famed Knipex Cobra’s that everyone has loved for years and years all over the world. I’ve got three Cobra’s (and a 10” “Pliers Wrench”), two 10” and a 7’1/4 or whatever they are, just seems like I don’t need to spend $50 when they’re just straight Cobra’s, ya know?
@@seanrobinson6407 lol I’ve made some knives and stuff but how I was talking about “bending the head straight” etc. was for the sake of argument. I’m just saying all these pliers are, are just just straight Knipex Cobras. That if you took a pair of Knipex Cobras and bent the head straight you’d have these $50 pliers that everybody’s raving about. Just use your Cobras… AND you don’t have to wait for Knipex to make smaller versions of these pliers that everyone is clamoring for, just get the smaller or larger Cobras that suit your needs ‘cause they make Cobras in just about every size and they’re in-stock on Amazon right now, you don’t have to wait. 😎
I've watched a knipex produced video where the main guy in charge of R & D in Germany was talking to the main guy in North America and he pronounced it with the K silent as you would. It's just like knudesen or knife. So pretty please would you stop saying "Ka-Nipex" it's just Nipex or Knipex. It's a silent K. What kind of doctor is this guy anyways?
He is correct in saying that the k is not silent. Knipex have put out a dumbed down pronunciation guide, giving a easy way for non-germans to get close to the correct pronunciation. The K is not silent. But the word is actually only two syllables long. The first syllable is a consonant blend, with the k and n plus the vowel sound ee. The marketing people at Knipex have actually put out a t-shirt stating that it is pronounced Kuh-nip-ex, however it is never said that way in the German Language. It is all good brand name recognition for them, and they get to laugh at all the pedants who get it wrong.
@@1lupus whatever but in America as in North America the k is silent. How do I know? See comment above. His mama called him Clay. Imma call him Clay. If the top guy in North America when speaking to the CEO in Germany is going to say Nipex then you can bet your sweet ass it's Nipex.

Order from an American company and just have them shipped lol
I'll beg for a mini, it would fit just right in my work kit. saving space and weight is must.
That's a bag of goodies 👌
lol you said the pliers wrench is by snap-on? if so, that's actually just a re-branded knipex!
2 yrs later and Knipex hasn’t released one😏 a very similar option will be Engineer PZ-56 slip joint plier for EDC purposes or their mole grip 150mm.
Add a year.... and now they have! 150mm
I wrote to Knipex telling them a similar thing, maybe I just lack the vision but I don't really understand why 8 inch , I own the Fujiya and each time I had a use for them, I wouldn't had hurt that they'd be even shorter, so totally agree with you, they should make em in 100 lenght
The 8 inch set of tools is basically the standard sized hand tool so that's where they started
A VDE version would be shocking!⚡
I find that the 125mm Knepix Cobra, and Wrench Pliers are as small as I find useful. Those 100mm are just too small for the stuff I work on. Maybe they would be useful for HO model train repair, or jewelry work. Otherwise eh no.
Couldn't agree more
Enjoyed your video. Subscribed.
Also have the s.o. adjustable wrenches
My thought exactly!
Hold the tool still so that we can get a better look. It's too bad those Knipex pliers don't also have a wire-cutting function.
Agreed, a smaller pair of Twingrips would be amazing!
I do handyman work in NYC and carry all my tools in a backpack, one which is way too heavy (to the point where I've actually injured myself from carrying it..). I recently swapped a small pair of Engineer / Vampliers for the Twingrip, I couldn't resist the improved quality and versatility of Knipex, but I carry them mostly for screw extraction, and it's a huge jump in size and weight for something I only use rarely (since I also carry a pair of Cobras, a pliers wrench, a needlenose, and often a pair of Linesman and/or Knipex forged wire strippers..)
They could make the Twingrips a lot smaller and lighter and they'd still do everything I need and more, be much more useful, and I could leave the big ones at home. An XS, stripped-down version (like the XS Cobra) would also be awesome and a great EDC item, more useful than the XS Cobras, but that would be a lower priority than a smaller full-featured version.
You have to try ENGINEER pz56 slipjoint screw removal

I agree.
I know it's silly but their name choice is all wrong too, I think twin grip can only create confusion with the twin force, keeping with their them of 'animals that have a good bite' cobra alligator ect, they should call em Piranha
Neji-saurus PZ-59 from Engineer or PZ-64. Might be what you're looking for.
Imagine if Leatherman and Knipex collaborated? That would be AMAZING!
Think Crunch/Pliers Wrench hybrid
Knipex is keeping me broke now!
Get the Bahco wide jaw crescent wrench, same as Snap-on without the premium price tag.
Snap-on adjustable pliers wrench is a dead set knock off from Knipex.
Knipex do it!!!
I think all Irwin Vise Grips say "The Original". If it says Dewitt NE then it's really original
Agree with everything you said except one, you shouldn't try that twingrip or even the cobra on the nut. Use the plierwrench . The mark of a genius is knowing what tool to use for the task at hand, in every walk of life.
you are very right! i've edc the cobra for 3 months now after the pliers wrench for 8... the cobra started some bad habits for me that i'm ashamed of
The snap on wrench is not as good as what they copied.
Apparently, you like Knipex tools more. I have factory weha tools. I don't know, do you know each other?
No I need a BIG one. The size under XL
Knipex will likely make tiny pliers for babies to use
You must live in a dry climate because if you had to deal with rust, those toy tools would be pointless.
Love my knipex but the law of the lever is inviolable.
Maybe call Rick Moranis
"Honey, I shrunk the Knipex TwinGrip" just doesn't have the same click.
Try the 87 41 250 for this!!
The raptors have a very different use case than these slip-joint style Twin Grips..
@@omicrondec I was commenting about the first part of the video, the ''big nuts'' part..
I know they are completely different in area of use, both great pliers though!!
Oooo.... la la
consider cutting it down
Doubt it will work. It would need to be designed small from the ground up. I tried cutting pliers down to a smaller size and it doesn’t work. Here’s the video: Size Matters: Making and Testing My Own Stubby Tools at Last Best Tool

Are you a blacksmith?
If the top guy in North America when speaking to the CEO in Germany is going to say Nipex then you can bet your sweet ass it's Nipex.
it's pronounced Nippex silent K, advice from Uk on the use of english to our mercan cousins 🙂😁
Seriously what was the point of with this video?
overrated crap. knipex makes something and everyone runs to buy them. OP you could not even explain why they are so useful, they are specialty pliers for screw extraction, they do not replace regular slip joints.
not sure where you were born but a true montanan wouldn't promote our state!
