    We've taken Thursdays "off" of normal schedule for years--it actually started long ago when our homeschool involved another family and they had a different class on Thursdays so we couldn't do school with them...and even though it's been years since then and there no longer remains a specific reason that is has to be Thursday...Thursday remains our precious day for housework and errands and extra time for those extra fun projects.

    Another great video!!! Did you do a "fun" Friday in your CC days? We belong to a co-op where some of the families originally belonged to CC. From my research, it seems it is very similar to CC. There is A LOT of work, especially for my MS son. I'm not sure we could get all the work done if we didn't use every day of the week (4 days at home/1 day at co-op). I feel the "we're behind" pressure if we are not keeping up with the work. UGH!!!!

      No, fun Friday was fewer was further between during CC for the very reasons you said. CC was like our “fun Friday. But I won’t say we did a full days work on Fridays. My son in challenge did. But having said that, for the elementary age students, CC was also only 24 weeks. So we had plenty of weeks where we could relax more!

Funny with your homeschool first day, because our first year homeschool was also my first time having to provide daily care for my mom. Love this video so very much !! My style is very similar to yours and I appreciate how honest and genuine you are in all your videos !! I have spoken to some homeschool moms , who seem to be horrified that our style of learning is not sitting at a desk for eight hours doing work !! We utilize all kinds of tools to learn !! A great example is ,when my husbands company went on strike, he took our oldest and he walked the picket line with his Dad . My son learned more that day , than if he read about it in a book . My son is also a Junior docent at our local marine museum and since he’s homeschooled, he can even go during the day to volunteer. So not only is he learning work ethics and serving others , but he is also learning all about marine biology, our local history and meeting guests from all around the world . Definitely 👍 a win win in my book !! We utilize parks , library’s , museums and sometimes our own backyard to learn !! So many great ways to think outside the box on how to educate your children. Thanks again for this video and all your other awesome videos!!! God Bless You !!

      Thank you so much!! It’s so fun to find somebody who thinks similarly to you!!
      Sounds like AWESOME opportunities you’re giving your son! This is ABSOLUTELY one of the biggest perks of homeschooling….finding opportunities outside the home that truly peak the interest of the child. (Marine Biology might be my favorite animal science. Rabbit trail: I saw this documentary -I think on animal planet…I haven’t been able to find it since- but it asked if a killer whale and shark fought, who would win? Which one is truly the biggest treat? And it happened!!! At one spot in the ocean, a huge killer whale met with a great white cluster! It was an amazing documentary. (I don’t want to give away what happened. If I ever run across the documentary again, I’ll have to share it with the viewers!!! It was fascinating!)
      Anyway-thanks for your encouragement and for being here!!! 💕 I’m as blessed by your comments as you are from my videos!

The practice checklist is great--it's not enough by itself to be really proficient on the piano however, I am hand's off with his piano stuff and he totally likes the checklist. It even tells him which pages to complete in his workbook. It's worth the price. They also just started a new service in which they offer live Zoom lessons ($$). I’m trying to make some big homeschool curriculum decisions for this upcoming school year. Part of me just wants to throw it all out and just do Bible for reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. And add in math. I don’t know if I’m just burned out at the moment or if I should just go with it. Have you ever felt like this?
    My kiddos are still young so we’re not required to do all the other subjects yet.

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  Рік тому +2

      Do it!! 😂
      Simplify if that’s what your feeling. The other things are so easy to add in if you’re feeling it and then you can just follow your whim for the week!!! Honestly….that’s kind of what I’ve ended up doing this year. And I’m thinking next year, I’m not going to plan anything formal for science or history. (I’m thinking about it anyway). Because when you simplify what your requiring yourself to do each week, you have mental space to add on when a curious questions comes up. Or when you feel like following a rabbit trail somewhere.
      It’s not as difficult as it sounds. I think it just messes with us mentally bc we sre so used to the modern school approach. But embrace your freedom!! 😜

    The library thing makes me laugh because my town’s library is literally the largest one around here and I hate it. My mom’s little library offered more and felt homey. Now they are getting goofy about proof of residency and they got weird with COVID. I need to find another outlet for all of us. Where do you find these co-ops?

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  Рік тому +2

      That’s a bummer about your library. I mean, every library “culture” is different. That’s true. There are som small libraries that are nailing it too…,just not mine! 😂
      So to get plugged into your local opportunities….1 for sure way that you can immediately connect with local homeschoolers is through a classical conversations information meeting. Or at least reaching out to your local CC groups and ask them if there are groups you can hook into. Local CC groups you can find through the classical conversations website and putting in your zip code. That’s a SURE FIRE way bc those people will know about your local area even if you aren’t interested in CC.
      Also…google. Seriously google your area (maybe a bigger city close to you) and homeschool co-ops. Maybe something will pop up. My area has a website that tells us EVERY HOMESCHOOL OPPORTUNITY there is. Every co-op is listed there. Every special class. Homeschool sports, etc. so maybe googling you can find something like that (or ask the CC people if there’s a site like that)
      Also search Facebook…
      Again search your area and homeschool and see if there is a group that pops up. OR…my area even just has a Facebook group for parents in general….maybe a local parent Facebook group would know if there are homeschool groups near you.
      I hope that helps!

      I think with the library thing that it is because I live in a very liberal part of Illinois. I am not in Chicago but I am close to it. My mom’s tiny library was less junk and more substance when it came to the kid programs.

    Thank you for another informative video! I love the idea of only doing school 4 days a week. My question pertains to the high school years. For those curriculums that are built around 180 days of lessons, how can one get it all in with only schooling 4 days per week (assuming we don’t want to school during the summer)?

    • @OurHOMEschoolPlan
      @OurHOMEschoolPlan  Рік тому +2

      I never worry about doing 180 lessons. 🤪 that’s how I do it. 1 high school credit is 120-150 hours. I tailor the assignments. For example, I just mentioned to my son today that we’re going to go through his existing history lessons and decide what he WANTS to learn about. If he’s bored with the lessons, it’s not going to stick anyway. So we’re tailoring it so that he can get the lessons in that we want before the summer. (Also….high schoolers don’t need mom like the younger kids do.) so you can have a 1/2 day for high school if needed. My son plays catch up on Friday afternoons. ;) but that doesn’t involve me! 😉
