    Horrible camera work. The instructor is telling all this information about retracting, and making sure the site is visible, but you can't see anything because the person who filmed isn't even showing it.

    I had one of these PSA shots of lidocaine last year when I was 15 for a couple of fillings. they kept a pulse oximeter on my finger during the entire procedure to monitor my heart rate because the anesthetic had epinephrine which also increases your blood pressure

      Very cool! Unheard of in the less developed countries like mine

      This probably isn't necessary unless the person is very hypertensive by nature

      It’s probably more so to monitor ur pulse rate , not blood pressure. It doesn’t measure BP. Just ur O2 (oxygen & pulse) and heart rate. The epinephrine will cause ur heart rate to escalate a little for a short period of time after the injections.

    If the patient is missing the second molar and only has their 1st max molar, would you insert the needle in the same place..? (in the height of the mucobuccal fold where the 2nd molar used to be)

    If I were to get a cavity filled in my second molar, would this be the injection I'd get? Or would it be the infraorbital?

      You would get this one, the PSA; however, a lot of dentists simply infiltrate above the tooth to fix a cavity. The PSA is helpful when you are working on multiple molars because it covers a wider area.

    • @kinkisharyocoasters
      @kinkisharyocoasters 7 років тому

      Is that because it's less painful?

    • @carolynchristensen547
      @carolynchristensen547  7 років тому +5

      The PSA has a higher chance of causing a hematoma, ugly swelling due to a punctured blood vessel. I've given a patient one and she looked like she had been punched in the face. It goes away and is not a long term problem, it just looks bad and can be a little sore for a few days. Hematoma's are rare but it does happen, so a lot of DDS just infiltrate when they don't need a broad area because you don't see hematoma's like that when infiltrating.

    very poor job, if you pushed that needle any more in you'd potentially break it at the hub and that needle tip would be stuck in the patients soft tissue. requiring exploratory oral surgery to retrieve it!!!!
    I've don't the PSA many times and you do not need to inject that far in to successfully achieve the nerve block!
