First video of this guitar. Gut strings on 2nd and 3rd strings only. I will put Gut and Silk strings on soon.
I fuckin love old shit. IDC what it is. I'm just fascinated.
Oh my god. What a sound! How to make a guitar to achieve it's deep and sweet sound like this! never or waiting for more 100 years!
Yes, age helps. I wonder what modern classical guitars will sound like in 100 years??
My God, Rob, this guitar sounds phenomenal. The right level of sadness, the right level of brightness.
Agreed. I got lucky!
“The voice of the guitar must be something between the human and the divine” said Francisco Tarrega
That song, and the playing, was so beautiful
Thanks, Sean.
This is Love sharing:)
Glad you like it. Thanks for sharing!
The tones in his fingers
Even as you handle it, that box sounds alive. Have not even heard it played yet.
A good old guitar is like a good old wine! It sounds great!
Indeed it does, Pablo!
Sounded like heaven..
Cheers, Joe.
My favorite instrument that you've played thus far. Mojo indeed.
Cheers, Caroll. Agreed!
This guitar is a Treasure
Thanks for a lesson in history. It has a remarkable tone reminiscent of another time 🤗🤗
My pleasure. :-)
Thanks for posting this lovely song, one of my favorites
Glad you like it.
That’s a beauty
Sure is, Henny.
What a beautiful instrument!
It sure is. Cheers, Fred.
I've been busy and have missed hearing you ... even though you only played a bit it was just what I needed ... so beautiful ... Thank You. Have a beautiful day dear sir.
And you, my friend. Best wishes.
Such a beautiful purfling on this guitar. Real art.
Cheers, Kamil. Glad you like it.
Thank you very much. Bernhard.
Thanks, Bernhard.
Just wonderful documentary, sir!
As a flamenco as well as classical guitar music aficionado I do appreciate your input here very much.
It’s a lovely guitar that sounds very nice. Beautiful playing as well.
Thank you
Thank you, Lucky Luke. Appreciated.
Very interesting to hear you tell what you know of the history of this Valencian guitar. Mojo indeed ! Y muy guapa !
Your elation as you tell it is communicative. And the original tornavoz still in place ! I am glad for you ! It sounds very good as it is (I love this tune and had bookmarked your previous performances of this Llobet arrangement). and I look forward to hearing it again with gut and silk strings on. You have made my day, again ! Thank you !
Cheers, MiM, glad you like it. Nobody makes guitars like this anymore, though some try to.
I really enjoyed the tune! Surely it has been regularly maintained in all that time. Amazing!
Apparently not. Sometimes it's best to just leave things alone.
it's dream guitar !!!😮👏👏👏
If it's a dream, I hope I don't wake up! :-)
Gorgeous playing sir. John
Cheers, John. Glad you like it.
Thank you Rob -- wonderful, as ever.
Thanks, Bernard.
@@RobMacKillop1 Don't know Bernard, Rob... I'm Gordon -- but thanks for the heart!
Sorry, Gordon. I've just been speaking to a Bernard!
Great video Rob, thanks for posting & well played. I have one of these guitars, but its in a bad way. Iam hoping to get it up & playing again. Having re-built some 100yr old guitars in the past, You've inspired me to get on with this one next :) Thanks.
Good to know, John. They sound best with Aquila Gut & Silk strings tuned down a tone. Cheers, Rob.
@@RobMacKillop1 Thank you for that Rob and yes I will do that. I will try email you some photos of my guitar, I think you'll be interested - to say the least! John.

Thanks for sharing this Rob, sounds great!
Cheers, Curt. I got lucky.
Beautiful guitar Rob. Lovely music too. Enjoy!
Hi Wenona! There is so much music for us to explore :-)
Great sound and playing!
Thank you!
How delightfully gaudy!
I love your new guitar.
Hi Rob, You found a very unique and beautiful instrument! Lovely playing and very suitable for Llobjet's music. Best regards, Linda
Hi Linda. Life is one big adventure!
Beautiful... thanks for sharing
Thank you, Senior Giuliani!
Rob, this sounds more musical than any Fazioli ,Bosendorfer (and the ilk) I ever heard :))))
Interesting to hear the history of this instrument. Fantastic playing and very nice sound.
Many thanks. Glad you like it.
By the way, it's 643mm...
Interesting choice. Wish I could get a nice sound like you without nails.
To be honest, it took me a couple of years, after which there was no looking back.
Make more music with this guitar please!
Sweeeeeet!!! Sounds cool!!!
Glad you think so. You look familiar...
Wow!
😀
Absolutely beautiful tone you're getting from that guitar Rob. Great stuff.
Cheers, Denian. I'll introduce it to Delcamp soon.
Congratulations! It sounds very sweet -- exactly the right sort of repertoire for it -- and looks gorgeous. You will get used to the "bling" ;-)
One day we'll record a video of both our sweet guitars. :-)
Oh yes this sounds so beautiful. I have an oldish guitar made in Valencia by Antonio Lorca. It also has a beautiful warm tone.
I can imagine. Valencia is often overlooked in favour of Madrid and Granada, but many of the instruments in those places were made in Valencia.
“The voice of the guitar must be something between the human and the divine” said Francisco Tarrega
Amazing guitar Rob! I'm sure Valencian luthiers use some kind of witchcraft. I found in my city Tatay from 1942 (~50BGP), I love it. After week I'm playing mostly flamenco, which I never did before :D
Lucky you. There are still guitars out there waiting to be discovered!
I know it, I was very lucky with this guitar :) @@RobMacKillop1 I had some work, veneer on head was displaced and nut bridge broken but overall it was not so much played, I removed oiriginal shellac from frets... They are like a new and construction is perfect. Here some shots: imgur.com/a/RGJ8dRl In future I will replace oak veneer with original walnut, however I don't like walnut so much, so maybe oak will be stayed just it need darker color imo.
Oh, that looks inviting. You've cleaned it up well.
For a guitar that was produced for the mass market it has a fantastic sound.
Agreed. But many mass-market guitars can sound great. Sometimes they (accidentally?) just get it right.
Gorgeous sounding instrument, Rob! You've been lucky enough to find a real beauty. :)
Cheers, Wilson. I've been looking long enough, then it found me. Very Zen!
Lovely tonality I’m looking forward to what it will sound like with gut and silk strings. Maybe you could work up a set of pieces that suit this guitar's voice ?
That's the intension. Cheers.
It was amazing, and i have no words, what did you play? It was Mystic, and magical
Glad you think so, Danny. Search for the album on iTunes and Amazon. Cheers, Rob.
Congratulations, Rob! That guitar is a little jewel, and fits perfectly your sound and taste.
(PS -I'm missing your videos on R7S guitar...)
Cheers, Rui. There are not enough hours in the day!
it's a very pretty looking guitar, sounds lovely too. :)
Cheers, Soozie. Yes, it sounds pretty good!
that's a beautiful guitar, how'd you find it?
I tell you at the beginning!
What a unique guitar with a great tone...which is mostly you! Great playing. I have a modern guitar with a carbon fiber tornavoz. It definitely has a unique tone as well. Guitars that resonate at E just sound so much better! Thanks for sharing this.
Cheers, Douglas. Who made your guitar?
@@RobMacKillop1 Hi Rob, Michael Thames made my guitar...
Then I know it is a good one. Here's a video of me playing a Thames guitar with tornavoz, some nine years ago. I don't have the guitar now: ua-cam.com/video/OGweO1ytnBw/v-deo.html
@@RobMacKillop1 It is a really good guitar. The Thames guitar in your video sounds great too. They all have a very unique and particular sound compared to other builders. I have played many of Michael's guitars now. After I bought mine, Matt Palmer played it and started playing Thames guitars because he liked my guitar. I have played most of the guitars Michael sent Matt. They are all a very similar high quality. Here is a video of me playing the same thing 3 times in a row on different Thames guitars.
Here's the video...

Rob,
Miquel Llobet would approve. You played that pc perfectly. Nothing like the tone of a Tornavoz. I have an FE-17 copy made by Michael Thames with a Tornavoz and it possess that old warm fat tone of a Torres. Did you buy the Garcia?
Hi Steve. Yes, I bought it. See my write-up here: rmclassicalguitar.com/antonio-carlos-garcia/ And here's a video of me playing a Thames guitar with tornavoz, some nine years ago. I don't have the guitar now: ua-cam.com/video/OGweO1ytnBw/v-deo.html
Lovely instrument and lovely history. I hope you will fall in love with this instrument. I have never heard this luthier name here in València. /Ferran
Cheers, Feran. I'm already in love. I'm not sure Garcia really existed.
Hi . Type francisco pau into reverb . The guitar on there looks very much like yours.
I just did. Nothing came up.
Now i want this guitar but i can’t afford it
What were the scale length they used back then?
It varied a lot. 630/640 was common, but many were as long as today.
@@RobMacKillop1 what are your opinions on 630 640 guitars? Do they affect tone?
@@armandolopez8726 I play another 630 guitar, and the tone is beautiful. Look for a video called “Lagrima by Tárrega played on 1840s guitar -Rob MacKillop”. Julian Bream played a 640 guitar on many of his recordings. These short-scale guitars can be surprisingly loud.
@@armandolopez8726 Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/ODFz2rPk77U/v-deo.html
@@RobMacKillop1 thanks! Sounds great! Can you please make a video on tonal production on the classical guitar. Your tone is fantastic! Greetings from Philippines 🇵🇭
