if you see a death coming, check the potion belt. Sometimes there is a random card from a potion that could save the run. Even if there is no solution, you'll learn what the potions do. Like that focus potion.

Brat: Sure lets grab Sacred Bark, who needs energy when you can get stronger potions!
Brat like 5 fights later: dies with full potion belt

Transform might sound scary because you can end up with complete dead weight, but usually (and especially in the early game), you can always get a better card than a Strike or a Defend, so Transforming is the equivalent of Removing a card *and* adding a card. At worth, you can remove the card at a Shop if you don't know how to use it, which you would have done anyways; and at best, you are saving one shop worth of removal and getting a card out of it.
As far as interacting the Exhaust Pile, most of the times the cards will just stay there forever; the only way to bring back a card is through Exhume, a golden rarity Ironclad exclusive card which exhaust itself.
There is also technically the Strange Spoon, which instead gives all "Exhaust" cards a 50% chance of not being exhausted, but that can make stuff like Slime or Shivs harder to deal with

    Time for another mechanic explanation!
So this game has a system where the first three fights of act one come from an 'easy pool' of enemies, while for act two and three the first two fights are from said easy pool. That being said that's not to say Neow's Lament (1 hp enemies for 3 fights) is a bad take. It could allow you to get a 1hp elite or a safe and quick early set up to get better cards and possibly a potion.

I think the defect is so fun to play. As someone else said, I think if you slow down a little bit it might help as its easy to forget little details about cards.

For self-improvement, I suggest forcing yourself to take 20-30 seconds at the start of each combat and vocalize how your deck handles the current enemy, and whether or not you're likely to take excess damage if you decline to use a potion, and at what point in the fight the potion is best utilized. Improves recall of enemy patterns, and encourages potion usage. With Fast Mode enabled your run times should remain reasonable.

A small tip, at first always remove a defend not a strike, as in darkest dungeon is better to kill than defend.... or heal.
Also with the defect is preferably to not evoke your orbs at the start of a figth until you know yu can kill an enemy atleast on the first few floors.

While it is true that offense is better than defense, that is not always the case; it is better to consider what the ratio of cards and what your upcoming boss / elites are rather than a blanket "always".
And the tip for evoking is not necessarily true; evoked Lightning is more than twice the damage (five times with double cast) immediately, which can take a lot longer to pay out passively compared to the momentum you gain by lowering the enemy health so much.

@@GNiko324 removing a defend give you virtually more damage because you draw less defense card, maybe is true that it is dosent always the necesary move to make but it is only when you have more attacks than defends and that only applies for the iron clad meanwhile the defect, silent and watcher want more attacks maybe for differents reasons but more defends than strikes on those characters atleast is technically worse.
meanwhile with the evoke thing, the defect is not a burst character but a setup one, is true that you can evoke many orbs as you wants and that the double evoke is too good to pass on but casting it early makes you essentially play 2 energy, one to evoke the electric orb and one to invoke another one, is generally better to just left the orb do damage for some turns and then kill the jawurm the next time you draw the double evoke.

Before watching or reading the comments, I'll make a prediction of at least 3 instances of missing lethal by forgetting lightning, and at least 2 instances of overblocking by forgetting frost.
