When I was about six years old (1959?), the band leader at the Hampton Beach NH outdoor stage asked for requests, and so I jumped up on a chair and asked for "Mr Banjo". He apologized and said that he didn't know that one. I remember being proud that I had the courage to ask, but a little embarrassed that everybody laughed at me like I was a baby.
This the second time I have heard this song. The first time was early 60s--a talent show at a shopping mall. Young twin brothers sang and danced to this. Thank you.
I haven't heard this since I was a kid. My father had the record of it, and it played at 78 speed. But as a dumb kid, I threw it like a frisbee up against the wall and smashed it showing off for my friends. Oh how I wish I still had that!
Kinda disappointed I don't like the song very well, but it's just a joy to watch Freddy. He's the first thing I think about when I think of Spike Jones.
MY MOM FIRST HUSBAND FREDDIE FANTASTIC ON BANJO AND VERY FUNNY GUY.. MY MOM PROFESIONAL DANCER ALL OVER THE WORLD.. EXCITING LIFE..

I think that’s the first time I’ve seen Freddy Morgan without his trademark pudding bowl haircut. Bless the man, I loved him. Xxxx
How great to see Freddy doing Mr. Banjo.. Thanks for posting. I knew him the last two years of his life. Such a funny and talented man.
What a treasured memory!

you can tell that Freddy is at his happiest when he's playing
Silly and wonderful...
Freddie's love of the banjo is so obvious
Freddy Morgan (Morgenstern) 1910-1970. He's in the Banjo Hall of Fame.
A virtuoso (and versatile), as were many of Spike's instrumentalists.
Yes, I recognized him right away from the Spike Jones videos.
These were the great times they n America. Freddy Morgan had Paul. Good old years
Merci beaucoup from Paris France 👍 👍 👍.
I enjoyed this. The tune rang familiar back through the years. Now I can put a face to the music. Thanks for posting.
Love his huge child like goofy grin when he plays
Williamson Syndrome?

What a happy melody . . .
Well done....... ALL THE WAY
Margie is my aunt. My moms sister.
I'm working on a CD compilation of Margie's recordings. Do you have any personal info or photos for the booklet? aeichler@earthlink.net Thanks.
Raeanne Wow! You lucky thing! X
So awesome! When I was young, this was one of my favorite songs to play on my Grandfather's Victrola!
Just wanted to update you that the Margie Rayburn double-CD set has been released. If you contact me, I can send you one. Thanks.
I heard she was from Madera California or at least lived there? Is that true?
more bandstand revue please watched it every show
This must be the only footage of Margie Rayburn. I wish there was more.
Is it me or does anyone else see that Freddy Morgan bears a remarkable resemblance to Mad Magazine's Alfred E Newman?
If you did this today, Americans would STILL eat it up!!

Could this possibly be where Bob Dylan got his idea for "Hey Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me...?"
Kinda disappointed I don't like the song very well, but it's just a joy to watch Freddy. He's the first thing I think about when I think of Spike Jones.
There's a Polish version of that song, sung by Maria Koterbska: ua-cam.com/video/Dedm8e0eE2E/v-deo.html
Where's Freddy's Moe Howard bangs?
AFAIK, this act was separate from Spike Jones' band, although Jad Paul and Freddie Morgan were with Jones at the time.
The touring of Spike's Band was pretty much done by this time
Even Moe's Howard would brush his hair back from time to time.
