To clarify, 200,000 yen (Ai's monthly paycheck before she got really big) is about 1500 USD, not 20,000. Don't know what her expenses would be like, but she was certainly not thriving. There's a reason a lot of idols don't make it :/
Thank you!!!
1500 is just slightly above average for salaries in Japan, and since the show is set a couple years in the future, due to inflation, it's probably worth even less.
Im surprised ure in japan and didnt picked up on the conversion rate lmao
@K3iji I mean.. there are too much zeros
2000 USD is closer to what they wanted to show, not 1500. Note that the conversion rate you have to use is when the chapter was published around 4 years ago.
Conversion rates changed so much during the pandemic
Had no idea this anime even existed until this week. Turns out to be one of the best debut episodes I’ve seen. From the music, to the animation, to the story, to the characters.. What an incredible episode. I’m hoping it doesn’t go down from here.

the manga was bussin, readers anticipated it so much and they delivered amazingly
Anime can be depressing

Fun fact! The title “oshi no ko” has 2 meanings, the first one being “the girl I support” as in aqua and ruby being fans of Ai in their previous lives, and the second one being “the children of the girl I support” or “the children of my idol” which also refers to aqua and ruby being the children of Ai!
perfect
Good to know
Thank you
It actually has four possible meanings, because "oshi" (推し) can mean either a hardcore fan OR the thing a hardcore fan is a supporter of. So it can mean 1) The kid who is being promoted, 2) the kid who is a hardcore supporter, 3) the child of someone being promoted or 4) child of a hardcore supporter. *ON TOP OF THAT* it also rhymes with "hoshino" which is the main character's family name which means "stars" and Ai's name is spelled the same as the English word "Eye" in Katakana which relates to the characters having stars in their eyes. So there are a ton of layers to the name.
推し is basically similar to simping for someone.and 子 means either a child or a young person often used for model/idol. so when I first heard the title 推しの子, I thought it was talking about simping for Ai. but after I watched the show, I realized that by 推しの子, it means children who simp for Ai
I remember watching gigguk review on its manga. That's what got me interested in this anime.
the trailer BAITED us so bad… I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE A HAPPY SLICE OF LIFE ANIME 😭😭 Nothing could have prepared me for this 😭😭
This was madoka magica all over again 😭
It will have its ups and downs from now as the two children will be the main focus and only focus for some time
Prepare yourself if you are going to watch the entire series
And if you want and feel up to it read the manga
@@aakashiyer4885 Whats your opinion on manga?🤔
@@Sweet_Jelly39 there are ups and downs
The boy will have his own agenda -revenge and the girl her own -Idol
Then their goal changes completely.
I personally think it's a good read. Sad that till now they both don't know that they were related to each other in their previous life and it seems they will be at opposing sides in the coming episodes.
It's dark and will tell you the sadness associated with Idol life, the mental trauma and burden as well. It becomes very dark. Very Dark
You won't be disappointed.
I really liked the boy side of the story at the beginning and later on the girls side of the story as well
I believe the manga is approaching it's end.

This anime has one of the best first episodes of anime I’ve seen. What a series.
Yeah, they did amazing job with the first episode
I’m excited to watch it, I’m gonna watch right now before I come back to this video, but I have high hopes. So far, my fav first episode is to your eternity, so I’m curious to see if this will beat that!
Agreed! I usually only watch shonen anime, but watching this episode legitimately surprised me. This was legit the best episode of anything I’ve seen in months

And one of the longest first episode
I'm so glad I went into this blind cuz what a ride it was. I was suprised it was movie length for episode 1 haha.
It's kinda like Erased in a way but I hope the story is good throughout and doesnt decline 🙏
All I knew was the premise, and that it was aparently sad. I was not ready.
I AM PISSED THAT I WATCHED A CLIP OF AI DYING BEFORE I WATCHED THIS
ayo, what you doing here?
also, true. its incredible how well written the story (at least the ''prologue'') is.
Same, the death was so unexpected 😞
Ohgod; erased.........too soon, too soon
If you've never watched it *WATCH IT!*

Could be the first anime that hit me so hard in the first episode itself! The animation elevated that experience by miles. Put some respect on the name *AKA AKASAKA* , the absolute mangaka who gave us two peak shows (btw he is starting a third manga y'all 👀)
Is the name and synopsis out?
Do not for forget about Yokoyari Mengo, she is not the writer but you can see many of her influences as a drawer
wait i thought he retired?
@Tangerine-Juice He retired from drawing manga, but not from writing them.
tbf that part was like the 4th episode if they didn't made it a 1 and a half hour episode
18:51 It's extremely sad that they showed the killer's gift to Ai right after giving us a red flag. I don't know why but it just seems so tragic. Ai is just someone who wants to love people but doesn't know how, she lied to her audiences hoping these lies come true and turned out, she succeeded. She's just a kind person deep down, so kind that she remembers the name of the fans, so kind that she cares and worries about other people around her, unlike what she claimed herself to be. It's ironic what killed her in the end is her honesty.
Beautiful synopsis at the end. Honesty kills the one who believed herself to be nothing but a fraud.
The title "Oshi No Ko" reads several ways in Japanese.
One is "My Favorite Girl", another "The Child of My Favorite Girl"
I think it's a well-crafted name.
『K-POP』 Republic of Korea
『J-POP』 JAPAN
my most favorite thing about oshi no ko is how ai’s eyes sparkle… like, they _sparkle._ that’s the first thing you notice about her. it was adorable how aqua and ruby inherited that sparkle in one of their eyes as well. it really touched my soul when she was talking to her future manger about how she think she’d be a bad idol because she won’t be able to truly love her fans since she was never loved herself nor loved anyone else, and her sparkle was dim, but then they lit up like fireworks, and that was one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever seen. but god… what truly broke me was how that sparkle from her eyes slowly lost their light as she died until completely disappearing. that haunts me.
"Ai" is a name often used in Japan.
Ai(愛) is a Japanese word that means love.
After watching this episode 1, it's wonderful to listen to the "idols" of "Yoasobi" songs again by comparing the lyrics.
34:40 Lady and gentlemen, we got him!
37:56 another one.
40:58 Triple hit.
Seriously this is the most emotional and perfect first episode for an anime.
btw 43:27 that was a shitty job for translation, it's more like "Would you consider training me?" as in taking him under his guidance in the industry.
English translations on anime are often awfully off for some reason.
@@niizuma5 he was using 9anime which is illegal which contradicts your point
@@MysteriousGhost378 im not say all illegal site
@@MysteriousGhost378 most likely he was meaning "fan-translations are usually more accurate than official-translations".
Most online illegal streaming sites are still using the "official translations" though so that exact sentence isn't correct.
(And fan-translations also not perfect, and some old are pretty bad.)
Pretty sure the manga said the exact same thing but the chapter afterwards made it seem as if he wasn't his child
@@humanoidfrog4645 yea he said 育てる in the manga too which means training pretty much. Yes it can mean raise but not in this situation and context.
He says "K-POP" "K-POP" many times, but this anime is set in "Japanese idols (JーPOP idols)". I want him to know that Japanese idols and Korean idols are completely different things. I also want him to know that Japan created the "idol culture".
People keep forgetting Jpop was and is a thing lol
But in the end theyre all still idols anyway just from different countries so its not a big deal lol
Though the way kpop functions as a market and business is different now compared to jpop (especially ever since bts blew up) kpop seems to value visuals and aesthetics meanwhile jpop is far worse when it comes to the "fantasies" being made up for the fans. im saying this confidently bc a lot of kpop idols r now being more open abt relationship and trying to break the standards.
Bro................. do you think he doesn't know? He literally said J-POP in the video as well. he was saying K-POP as a joke. the last fact is pretty cool though.
@@a.a.stanyoongles308
Calling jpop kpop is taken as an insult to Japan.
@@a.a.stanyoongles308 and yet sasaeng kpoopers are still far worse than pathetic wweaboos.

What does it matter if he says it wrongly who cares
It overlaps with K-pop, but it's a typical j-pop idol story.
Japanese idols sing, dance, and have a cute "moe moe kyun" feel to them, so it's a bit different from K-POP.

I didn't know this is such a good anime. I see people keep mentioning the manga like a year ago and now im watching it. Oh man, im not ready for this rollercoaster of emotions. Definitely going to continue watching the anime and im going to pick up the manga for sure.
if you wanna know the voice actor for Ruby.. this is her first anime & she really nailed it
she only voicing highschool ruby, not child ruby
22:45 you need to understand that idols have extremely short careers, and unless they mange to break out into other parts of the entrainment industry, which is kind of rare, they will need to start their professional life over when they retire.
So for her, being a single mother with 2 kids, starting a new life from scratch in Japan will require an insane amount of money.
Nick actually crying teared me up a bit. Definitely a great drama anime debut in 2023
The first episode was literally perfection. And ending it just like "that".
Why is Nick so good at guessing the major plot twists and mysteries in anime before they come up every single time?
Bro your guessing skills are too good
Something they never mentioned in the anime: Aqua and Ruby had to watch the funeral from the car because of possible being found out and Ai sat herself against the door because she knew Aqua was more mature but Ruby wouldn’t be able to handle it. And even still she held Aquas head down so he wouldn’t have to see her face as she was dying.
This has been one of my favourite mangas since it started coming out, not only does it focus on how fucked up the idol industry is, but also just the entertainment world in general. The manga is absolutely incredible and I can’t wait to see how they adapt everything! Aka Akasaka is two for two atm (he also wrote Kaguya-sama: Love is War), and he’s starting a third series soon!
Oshi no ko → j-pop idol
I watched this 3 times, watched it myself, watched with reaction mashup, and watched your reaction, I cried every time.
bro already dropped it 🔥🔥🔥
I am happy for you to experience this anime, this anime will tackle a lot of relevant problems we have right now. And I for one will want to watch how you will react to the entire season, keep it up!
The best thing is that even if Nicholas does drop this , this first episode might as well be a full arc movie so it won't be that bad
I keep seeing reactors misunderstanding the part where the MC said to his patient regarding marriage.
He was giving her something to look forward to. Because they know she's gonna die soon.
Maybe a little bit of lie is good, don't you think?
It's just like when you keep pestering your parents about a toy you want and they said "We'll buy it on your birthday, so be patient until then, okay?"
In all honesty I think everyone teared on this episode. Such a roller coaster start.
the way they stopped the music at 40:24 the " *aishiteru* " Line is just P E R F E C T.
i absolutely love this guy, his reacctions and expressions make my day, even though they may be a bit exaggerated , its entertaining af
How could I forget you? You're the best reacter I have ever came across, can't wait for watching this anime with you!
I really appreciated how that post-credit scene just twisted the knife in my gut
Even manga readers aren’t prepared for this the adaptation is perfect ❤
38:40 My theory is that when Ai was talking after being stabbed, she wasn’t actually telling the truth. She wasn’t actually at peace. I think she was putting on the acting performance of a lifetime to get the man to leave without hurting her kids. Because we all know he probably would have.
Ai, as shown in the flashback and elsewhere, is actually really cunning. This is brought up multiple times in the episode. And frankly, anyone in this industry has to be at least a little cunning and manipulative. She says herself that without thinking, she says what best fits the situation. Not the truth.
We also know she’s terrible with names: but when our lives are threatened, the whole “life flashes before your eyes” thing is actually a survival mechanism; your brain, looking for any possible way out of the situation. She saw his face, so the memory of the star sand and his name came to her in an adrenaline-fueled burst of memory. She played both of these cards the moment the stalker started to call her out on her lie by saying she just wants him to let them go. He was absolutely right. But she was able to disarm him by weaponizing her charm and smile as always. Manipulate him. Make him doubt himself. The gravity of his own actions would do the rest.
If this theory is true, that would be the ultimate example of “lies are love.” She is lying her ass off to protect the only two people in the world that she actually loves.
I’d love to see this play out as a flashback but from her POV, where we get to hear her true thoughts.

One of the best first episodes for an anime in years. Not sure if you saw the post credit scene after the credits. If you watch with your girlfriend, just be ready to cry more. It hits a lot.
I was hyped for this, and i'm glad this is out. Thanks for the content man.
As soon as I finished the first episode I binged the manga.. no spoilers ofc but when I tell you… my brain exploded… I’m just waiting for more chapters 🤯
Where did Oshi no ko reactions go?
2nd episode got copystrike
4th one got demonetised

So, he gave up.
I hate how he didn't even try to inform to general audience who were unknowingly waiting for his reactions.

I already cried the first time I watched this and I've cried again watching you react to it, this anime will server as an emotional turn on for me whenever I hear the name Ai ever again I will burst into tears
Oshi no Ko is amazing. I wanted to read it for a long time, and I'm SO GLAD I didn't, now I can discover the story completely blind through the anime. I heard it was good, but didn't expect an actual 10/10. By the way, this episode adapts the first volume of the manga. I seriously don't know how people managed to survive the shock week after week when the manga debuted in Weekly Young Jump... The story changed genre every chapter for a whole volume! I can't wait for the next episode, for real.
Also, small note: 200.000 Yen is nowhere near 20.000$ She was earning a bit less than 1.500$ a month.
