      I don't look a gift-horse in the mouth. I'm just glad to get the views. Not too worried about getting deep into the analytics just yet. One thing I've learned is, UA-cam (for me at least) is a marathon & not a sprint. Glad you liked the video!

      Unfortunately, not all of us can transmit. Many of us are just listeners only. Perhaps that may play a part in the small numbers up thumbs up but many people watching the video. For those of us that only monitor, we are not used to interacting with what is being heard. That may stretch to UA-cam also. We are just used to quietly listening.

    I am now the owner of a Yaesu FT-710aess transceiver. I connected it up in late January and have been listening ever since. I have been hearing some very interesting 10 meter amateur band activity. I have also been receiving some extremely interesting digital transmissions from very far away on the lower end of 10 meter band, using a freeware programme called Hamradio Dexluxe 5.0. However, being a responsible owner of a fine radio, no microphone buttons were pressed.

      @@wa5azqhamradio I have been thinking of getting licensed, so I can transmit. But, it is extremely doubtful I would be able to obtain a free antenna, like I received the free Yaesu FT-710aess. Right now, the radio is receiving on a 259 centimeter long vertical antenna, or a 3650 centimeter long horizontal wire laid at the base of the edges of my attic, forming a large rectangle. The two, "antennas," if they can be called that, are on a free Kenwood AT-200 vintage manual antenna switch and tuner. Should I be able to transmit, I am certain those two antennas would be little more than mediocre shortwave receiving appliances. I can not imagine those two pieces of metal could transmit far, though the 259 centimetre vertical is very close to a quarter wavelength antenna. I think 100 watts through the small vertical would not transmit far on 10 meters and likely not transmit past a few meter on any of the lower bands. Maybe it would work for 6 meters with the tuner adjusted. The wire going around the perimeter of my attic would probably allow for more transmissions with the tuner adjusted and maybe the tuner that is onboard the Yaesu also. But, it would likely not go far. I believe the antenna is far more important than the radio for signal propagation. I may still get my license. But, the entry level license disallows almost all use of HF bands. That is extremely discouraging.

    • @wa5azqhamradio
      @wa5azqhamradio  6 місяців тому

      You would be surprised at what antennas can do, especially on receive. Transmitting is totally different and it would be best to get that license and get started learning radio theory. I am guessing you are located in Europe? I don’t know about band privileges there. But the Technician (beginning) licenses here in the United States does allow for a big slice of 10 meters for Technicians. You can…I have myself…talked around the world on 10.
      And as far as having a tight budget, there are many antenna types, like a purchasing material for dipole for a single band can be inexpensive.
      And it can be done. The second antenna I ever built when I got my license almost 10 years ago was a 10m wire dipole that I still use today.
      Keep at it and you’ll get there.

      10 is hopping pretty much night & day now that the solar cycle is on the upswing! Yudel-PZ2YT in the country of Suriname was on 10 earlier. I was running 50W on an end fed half wave antenna. I didn’t break through the pileup he had this time, but I’ll get him someday. He always seems to be around on the weekends.

      When 10 meters is good and open you will be able to talk 24/7 around the planet with 15 W PEP and a whip on the car. I was doing that back in the mid 1970's, running mobile on a converted CB. East coast then Europe during the day, Australia in the evening, all from here in Colorado. I was on a first-name basis with several Aussie hams, and we'd just all chat together most evenings as if we were all locals.

      @@johnwest7993Two years ago, I was able to make a contact on Citizen's Band channel 35 USB between Southern Texas and Northern Saskatchewan. The following week, I was able to connect with Puebla, Mexico on Channel 40 USB CW. Both times it was using 1 watt on a 259 centimeter long copper numbing tube, strapped to my rooftop television antenna. The current was produced by a 5 ampere, 12 volt, mini refrigerator power supply. All this junk was just garbage laying around. There was no money invested in the station, save for the coaxial cable.

    I'm working on putting together a 10m element on my antenna now. I'm having a hard time getting the swr lower (below 3). I was also told that the 10m band is so wide (the widest) that it's not likely to be able to get the whole band resonant and that it's best to settle on an area & stick with it. I'd sure like to get the whole band below 3 without an antenna tuner but not sure if it's realistic. What do you think?

    • @wa5azqhamradio
      @wa5azqhamradio  11 місяців тому

      Yes. We (operators) have a big part of the 10 meter band. I use the built-in antenna tuner as well as the SWR meter on screen of my Yeasu 991a when I’m on that band. The SWR meter helps remind me to re-tune once it starts getting over 2:1 or more. I also use a separate outboard SWR meter in-line as well.
      Using a tuner is much better than having to go outside & adjusting your antenna every time. That way you can use the parts of the band you have privileges on.

      @@johnwest7993 I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you are not offended by what I'm about to say; that truly is not my intention. I have spent a couple of hundred hours examining the circumstances of the occurrence of SARS CoV-2, "Covid-19." I am confident that Dr. Fauci cost you the life of your sister, in addition to killing millions around the world. Fauci et al have been filing patents on Corona virus gene sequences as far back as year 2000. Senator Rand Paul said in a video yesterday I watched yesterday that he had absolute proof, in the form of Fauci's emails, that Fauci lied under oath to Congress. I contend that Fauci and others developed Covid and intentionally released it to profit themselves and drug companies they have interest in. Senator Paul said that to date he has not been able to get information on which scientists are receiving royalties on the sale of Covid vaccines and treatments. In my opinion, Fauci should be swinging on the gallows for mass murder.

    • @channelview8854
      @channelview8854 Рік тому +1

      I'm pretty sure this goes back to when ham equipment was not up to the technical standards that most commercial radios are good for now. If you have harmonics or spurious signals out of band it might be a good idea to let other hams know where you think you are transmitting. Besides, if band is mostly dead you have to make long calls in hopes somebody will find you. So you have to be saying something, right? Crowded bands make it not too helpful. 73

      Sad Ham alert!!!
      Keep your distance from unhappy ops like this. They can’t hurt you in the least.
      They’re the ones that will give their callsign out 4-5 times during a DX pileup because they’re insecure, selfish, narcissistic cry-babies and think they are better than everyone else.
      They run a lot of power to make up for their other shortcomings.
      In reality, they weren’t hugged enough as a child so they hide behind a microphone & keyboard and run others down constantly.
      Just ignore this person and MANY others like him. They’ll eventually get all huffy and go away to try & troll someone else.
      NEVER let these hater’s unhappiness spoil your experience in the hobby.
      They certainly are not worth giving even 1/1000th of a thought about….EVER!
      Nothing to see here!
