Wonderful, I thought the bad weather and wheel slip added greatly to the character and drama of such a powerful engine. Hauling twelve carriages up that slope was no mean feat!
Thank you for your interest. I would agree with you wholeheartedly ... but you shouldn't jump to conclusions. I filmed my footage at a public pedestrian crossing and from behind the barrier. The people in the distance are also at a public pedestrian crossing and are returning to their cars after the train has passed. The location is Gamston, south of Retford, Notts. If you closely check Google Satellite View, you can see the two crossings clearly.
Weather was lovely ... until the downpour started 2 minutes before the special arrived! Driver behaved very strangely though. Seemed to close the regulator halfway up Gamston Bank then very hesitantly opened her up again. I don't think any of the photographers were causing a particular concern.

Reviewing the footage, I think the driver had a bout of wheelslip and had to shut the regulator temporarily. Wouldn't want another Blue Peter on his hands!
Totally agree. I love the A4's and Gamston bank is one of the best locations to see a special working hard. Sadly, just at the moment, we have no A4 working on the mainline ....... Andy
Those A4 Pacific locomotives have their chime whistles, which are in the front and next to the funnel.
Correct. You can see the steam from the whistle at 1:35

We need an A4 back on mainline duty. SNG will be back in action any time soon ...... Andy

Great footage! You'd think an A4 would be a bit more sure footed even though she was hill climbing. Thanks for sharing!
Great filming, enjoyed watching....thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your comment and thanks for subbing. We hope you enjoy all our videos.

Looks and sounds great. Weather was poor I see. Barry
Absolutely drenched!!!
I'm surprised Bittern, or any LNER A4 locomotive, has a whistle that sounds like it was borrowed from a tank engine.

What a ridiculous comment - why would anyone say that?
@@stratman3233 I agree! It's a puzzle to me. Jealousy, I guess!!! ..... Andy

I can certainly see why wheelslip would have occurred. Loaded or not those carriages look rather heavy....
the rain is the reason
good great
Thank you!! .... Andy
The weather was awful. The rails were obviously very slippery.
Thank you Dave ... and thanks for returning the sub! I hope you enjoy all my videos.
The weather was appalling at the time though ... a torrential downpour!
Great video I liked and subbed!!
did you get wet?
Where's the eliping?
*slipping*
The slip is at 1.00 - it's not much but it's very unusual to see slipping while moving like this. It's a steep incline and very wet conditions though.
Very pretty
Needs a deltic to show how to do it
