Time in the word and maturing in the faith put us that way. @@gfujigo -- Some teach that God does all He can do by sending His Son to die, but that anyone who wants to be saved must add his own faith to the mix, a faith generated by his own free will, not given as a gift by the Spirit. They make God out to be little more than a shopkeeper who puts His wares in the window and hopes someone is attracted enough to them to come in and buy (their freewill faith being the accepted coin). The true Gospel has God sending out the Spirit into the streets to slected persons, and the Spirit supernaturally creating in those persons the desire to be saved, and showing them the exclusive way and place where this salvation can be found, and those persons, using their God-given faith, eagerly going to the store and having salvation given to them. The difference is that the former group (the freewillers) have something about which they can boast [they were smart and wise enough to recognize salvation as something worth having, and to exercise their self-generated faith to obtain it], in contradiction to what we are taught in Eph 2:8-9, while the latter group (the Calvinists) know they have nothing about which to boast, since their salvation was 100% the result of what God did.

That's very true. There is simply no way to know for sure anyone is right about the ideas in the Bible-they are ancient cultures and the NT is written in a dead language(or rather, dead version of Greek). If he is indeed, educated and scholarly he should realize that fact. He is also very biased towards his version of Christianity, which pretty much automatically skews someone from proper critical analysis.

    • @thomasakatidalforce7987
      @thomasakatidalforce7987 3 роки тому

@@chrismachin2166 I suppose in a way I agree. If you're debating someone; by definition, you think they are not correct in what they believe. My problem with that idea is the basis of such an idea. To say someone is "wrong" implies there is a way to prove it...with the bible, that's simply not the case. There is no way to tell exactly what the book means because of when it was written and the language the NT was written in. Forget the fact there is not even a way to prove what we have is what was originally written. Furthermore, White's major flaw is this idea the the bible is some kind of self-contained entity and doesn't require any outside source to help determine the meaning-you can see this in a lot of his arguments about the meaning of Greek words. At the very least he should concede possibilities.
Likewise, he all too often mentions his opponent's personal beliefs or views as a means of discrediting what they say. Not only is that a major flaw in logic, but it shows a close mindedness that is inconsistent with someone who claims to be scholarly. Just because a person is a catholic or agnostic doesn't mean that person is wrong or misguided in the information they present. My uncle is a very liberal Christian and he could very easily bury most people like White with his knowledge on the language, culture and outside sources that correspond; either in agreement or disagreement with what is written in the bible.
Furthermore, his idea of an infallible bible that only people blessed with the holy spirit can understand is not rooted in anything either plausible, provable or biblical and ends up just being a license for ignorance and close-mindedness. In fact, the idea of an infallible bible is relatively new in the Christian world and generally speaking, the closer you get to the original culture/language the more accurate and interpretation it will be. The so-called "reformed" Christians are nothing more than people who have added their own cultural bias into their interpretation.

However, his apologetic work, in my opinion, is the exact same reason why he misses the nuance of Lutheranism and is a Calvinist as well. I believe, as so many others, that there are very serious problems with constructing a view of the Christian faith that is most defendable in the context of a debate, or even most “rational” in some sense of the word. It’s my view that there are serious, coherent reasons to reject the apologetic mindset that White approaches almost every topic with. He thinks that is mere reason, consistency, and objectivity in his mind, and it makes him rock solid in arguments, but it misses so many important nuances pertaining to the faith. White has no faith at all, he needs signs and wonders to prove his faith, that's why he goes crazy with textual criticism, he needs the evidence in his hand or else he will not believe, and what's even more sad is that he doesn't even realize that you can't prove the originals except by faith and looking at the fruit of that text. If. Someone finds a manuscript tomorrow on a cave in the middle east with the message "the word was NOT God, he was human like us but he received power", he would automatically believe it and change his entire belief system, that's how little faith he had.
Listen to Jeff riddle and Taylor Desoto for a good defense of the textus receptus and a good explanation of what that text represents and where it came from, the church.

Appreciate your ministry very much. My theology has come around to reformed on all points though I am what Sproul would call a cautious continuationist in that I have witnessed and experienced miracles, and for 20 years I have been praying in 'tongues' glossolalia, quietly in my own heart for my own edification between myself and the Lord. I know it's not a popular position among the reformed and that's fine. My departed grandmother was Southern Baptist. Never saught anything like a spiritual manifestation such as tongues, ever. Very devout and godly woman. One night she was praying on her knees at the foot of the bed and it came rolling out - glossolalia. About scared my grandad to death and he had a fit over it. Perhaps I can help? I've found it's much easier to talk to them if I explain the passage for them -
      (1) we'll need to refute why Jesus says call no man master, teacher, or father in the entire passage.
After we dispel the passage and clearly define the differences, then our case will be stronger, and our question clearer. Until then, they will say Jesus was using hyperbole, since in the following passage in the same conversation, Jesus tells his followers respect the authority of Pharisees (do what they say, not what they do).
Defining is important, otherwise, our conversations with them go to a brick-wall, since we're on different pages.
For example, they'll point out how James White is a teacher, and we'll need to proof-text that he is not teaching us, and he's not a spiritual teacher.
(2)Then, we explain how Father Abraham is not a spiritual father nor biological father
      (3) We explain why apostles call themselves Father and the christians as their children. We need to be careful in defining this, otherwise, it makes us look like we don't believe the bible.
      (4) We explain the difference between Father's Day, our biological dads, and spiritual -> early church fathers, old testament fathers, etc)
      (5) Explain the difference between masters (journeyman training, university master's degree, martial arts master-student relationship, etc).
In my experience, this will help dialogue, since the discrepancies have been defined. They will know better how to respond to a specific question, until then, its hyperbole. As a rebuttal, they might ask you how come you don't believe Jesus when He says Eat My Flesh, Drink My Blood.
      Hope this helps! God bless!

Preach on brother and stop defending yourself and avoid as much as possible “me, I, my, etc.”. It’s not about you, is it? Isn’t it about Him? 40 years of ministry and proclaiming His gospel is amazing. Thank the Lord for it and divest yourself of Me, I….” Blessed be Christ for your ministry even if only 8 or 3 make it. But there's definitely an immaturity in the Evangelical side of Protestantism that's made obvious through their lack of historical knowledge. With that said, there's a point to their existence. The history of Catholicism is in part the history of Europe. Is evangelical the history and therefore the idiosyncrasy of the United States? Prophets aren't popular. Though I don't always agree with you James I do appreciate your prophetic voice but not everyone does.

I would put it as Dr. White has prophet-like authority, which to be honest we all should. After all we were sent out into the world by the Lord himself.

“What’s it gonna matter in eternity”? Well loving the Lord with the mind is one thing. But any honest look at the evangelical apologetic community will show you how most of it isn’t love of God through mind, it’s centralized in just winning arguments and calling it a form of evangelism. It’s extremely futile in much of its efforts because their whole objective is to keep young people in church and so they put forth a bunch of “scholarly”-sounding talking points to stay relevant in young and doubtful minds. It’s a temporary fix for a long-term problem.

Bc James White sticks to Scripture. Period, no grey's nothing other than submission to the Lord or know your submitting to the world

Another Humble Brag from the master, James White. Woe is me, I am compelled to eternal uncool ness by my truth-telling ways. No awareness of how his abrasiveness and personality-driven food fights with his rivals within theological warrior-dom might give pause to the more gentlemanly bigwigs who hand out conference speakerships and book deals.
