I had the opportunity to visit Cairo when I was 12 in 1989. My father was stationed at an Air Force Station in Crete. My mother and I took a cruise from Heraklion to Alexandria. From there was were with a tour group and we bussed to Cairo. I rode a camel up the hill from the town to the Great Pyramid of Giza and got to go into the pyramid. We also toured the Sphinx. Then they took us to a shop where they showed us how they made papyrus paper. It was a very memorable trip, especially for a 12 year old American military kid.
Thank you for the video, Jeb! It sure brought some of those memories back!!!

We managed a 'Day trip' to Cairo back in the late 90's. We were on holiday in Cyprus. I seem to remember the flight left about 5 in the morning. In Cairo we had a guided tour of the museum, the pyramids & the Sphinx. Lunch at the Mariot. A visit to a papyrus factory before dinner. Dinner was on the Nile. Complete with entertainment. We touched back down in Cyprus about 1 in the morning. Fantastic 😊

I visited Egypt in the mid 1990's. We flew from Cairo to Aswan and when we landed, everyone applauded, which made me laugh! I then took a boat ride from Aswan back to Cairo, with stops along the way and a chance to ride a felucca. Last day was the light show at the pyramids, a fantastic experience!

Exquisite presentation Jeb!! We visited Egypt fully escorted and with an Egyptologist, and private security. Enjoyed a felucca sail, and also a multi day cruise up the Nile, multiple stops. The Cairo traffic is another dimension!!😎. We then flew down to Abu Simbel. For a day trip. Then back to Cairo. We flew Egypt Air from JFK round trip. Jet Blue LAX-JFK. A fascinating trip!! Happy travels!!

Although my family on both sides are Istanbul Turks, my mother's side of the family had connections with Egypt stretching back to Ottoman Empire days. Nasser nationalized our property there, but we still had the compensation funds up until the 1980s. When my mum and I visited Istanbul in 1977, we also went down to Cairo with my aunt, uncle and a cousin and spent 19 days there in the height of summer. I haven't been back since, but I definitely will some day soon, I hope. Besides returning to Cairo, I'm hoping to get to Alex, Aswan, Luxor and definitely Abu Simbel. Egypt has its own unique place in my family's history and in my heart.

I traveled to Egypt in 2007, I went to Cairo and took a cruise ship from Aswan to Luxor
Absolutely amazing and anyone that speaks English should be ok
The only downside to my trip were the buskers and market sellers pestering us to buy their wares… if we pretend not to speak English, worry not they do speak any language you can think of. Other than that, it is an amazing place and culture to visit

Oh! You have to go back for Luxor! I honeymooned in Hurghada and made side trips to Cairo and Luxor. Luxor is my favorite. The Temple of Karnak and especially the Valley of the Kings were exceptional. Don't get me wrong. Cairo was also very interesting. The museum was amazing and I can't describe the awe I felt seeing the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx.
If I ever went back, I would do a Nile cruise. I think that would be amazing.

Most of my delays have been common; waiting for flight crew, weather, inbound flight delays, maintenance to come look at something the pilot was concerned about, etc. I think the most unique one that was maintenance related was when the tow-bar broke on push-back. Had to wait for the nose gear to get checked out.

Egypt is the most fascinating and unique place I have ever visited, and even though it's challenging and alien to my own background (grew up in England and then Australia) I would go back in a heartbeat. Egypt stays with you in a way other countries don't. Hope you both had a wonderful time there too! On the flip side, I flew from Australia to Egypt on Egyptair in Business Class and it was hands down the WORST flight I have ever taken (and I have flown a lot). The service was shockingly bad, the seats were not comfortable, and the food was dire. I did fly from Cairo to Luxor as well on Egyptair, but that was only for an hour and so hard to compare with a 20 hour flight, although domestically I will say the service was better. Thanks for the videos Jeb - much enjoyed by me!

My weirdest delay took place on a United 757-300 flight from Los Angeles LAX to Chicago O'Hare ORD (my home airport). We proceeded with boarding about 25 minutes late, per usual for United. Once fully boarded, the cabin door was closed, but we stayed at our gate for about 30 minutes. After nearly an hour on the place going nowhere, we were asked to deplane and take all of our belongings with us. We all stayed in the concourse for another 45 minutes before finally boarding again because the door to the cockpit would not lock! I guess with risk of terrorists, a cabin door not locking is a serious problem, but finally, nearly 3 hours late, we departed Los Angeles and arrived in my home town of Chicago at 8:30pm, 3 hours and 25 minutes late.

Great video Jeb! I completely agree with your comment about Egypt being one of the most hospital if not most hospital country I’ve visited. My wife and I went back in 2009. I remember when we talked about booking, we just decided to jump in and step outside our comfort zone and go. Even flying to Cairo, we were nervous. However, after getting over the initial overwhelmed feeling, I found myself sitting on the balcony looking at the city in just complete awe. There was just so much to take in that I found just observing life was so fascinating. Like you said though, the people were absolutely beautiful both on the outside and inside. Really reminded me of US southern style hospitality…with people stopping along the street genuinely asking if we needed help and if we declined, they seemed to almost always be like no problem enjoy your visit!

I’ve solo traveled Egypt a few years ago and had an absolute blast. People are usually friendly, speak some English and are always happy to point you in the right direction. Luxor city is nice enough with plenty to see, but do yourself a favor and skip Hurgada, very boring. The river boat from Luxor to Aswan is fun and relaxing. The night train from Cairo to Luxor was not so much fun. Hot and uncomfortable would be my experience. Nice to see you are showing more of your stays.

My first, and so far only, trip to Egypt was in 1977. As a young female solo traveler, just planning the trip was challenging. Back then bookings were done by snail mail. For your next trip I suggest adding Luxor, traveling one way from Cairo by train and the other way by cruise. I really enjoyed this brief "tour" of your honeymoon in Egypt.

    What a wonderful Honeymoon!
I've wanted to visit that area since I first saw the film version of Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile." (I'd prefer to do it without the murders.)
You asked about memorable flight delays. In May of 1980, I visited some friends who had a cabin on Lake St. Clair, in Washington State ... a little south of Seattle. I flew from San Francisco to Portland, where my friends live, and we drove to the lake, where we met some of their other friends. The plan was that those friends would drive me to SeaTac, for the flight home.
Early on Sunday morning, Mt. St. Helen's erupted. We were about 75 miles, or so, due north of it. It was quite amazing to see something loom so large from that distance. Amazing!
With the daylight hours so long, at that time of year, I would be able to see the volcano from the plane ... if it left on time. (The ash flow was all going to the east, from westerly winds, and the route to San Francisco went well to the west of the mountain. I was so excited.
We waited, and waited, and were told that the delay was a wait for an available cleaning crew to clean the plane. We begged, but "rules are rules." We tried telling them that we WANTED a dirty plane. We offered to clean the plane, ourselves. They laughed ... but NO.
We did see the volcano, but it was just getting dark, and more daylight would have given us a much better look.
