I think Molly held her red Jag-stang when she was on the cover of She Shreds magazine, ive seen that on Instagram somewhere, she looked pretty cool with it
TheZooropaBaby The original one, that was made for Cobain, was given to Peter Buck of R.E.M. by Courtney Love. You can see the guitar in the video of "What's The Frequency, Kenneth" and on the live performance of "Let Me In" featured in "Road Movie".
yeah ive read about the guitar in some special issues of magazines in 2014 (when it was 20th anniversary of Kurt's death) and I was really intrigued by it but it was so mysterious, because, you know, except for these limited number of people including Kurt himself.
I was extremely surprised when I bought this guitar (2002 reissue)... What's usually not stated about it online is that its quality is right on par with any American made Fender. The neck is one of the best (if not THE best) I've ever seen. Maybe 'cause the later models were Crafted in Japan (as opposed to Made in Japan) with American parts? Who knows, I haven't tried the earlier models. But what a guitar! Very underrated, as far as profitability I think Fender definitely lost with this one -- it should have been American made with a much higher price tag. This will probably be my partner in crime for life.
"Crafted in Japan" is just a fancy term, it does not mean that there are American parts involved. Sometimes Japanese Fender guitars will have US pickups, in that case they make sure to tell you about it! But yes Japanese guitars are great in general, very good bang for your buck (not only Fender but also Greco and other famous "lawsuit" brands). The main difference that I can see is in wood and finish. Fender Japan tends to make guitar out of cheaper woods like basswood, sometimes covered by a rather thick layer of poly finish. This is not universal, as they have different ranges, but the Jagstang might fall in this category since the Fiesta Red and Sonic Blue finishes don't need to show the grain of the wood.
invisible1955 yea I was looking at it and thinking, thats not the stock HB but most people replace it anyways with a JB HB anyways. I’m still pondering whether I should keep mine stock or not. I missed the boat for the Mustang a few years back. Wish they would reissue that one as well, then I wouldn’t have to think about modifying my Jagstang...
@@caprise-music6722 nah I already modified per the Cobain specs lol I had my Jagstang stock since 97 but it wasnt until 2018 when I decided to start collecting other KC guitars that I realized how bland the Jagstang is. Many people wrestle with the notion of modifying it or not. I finally decided to do it because I’m never going to sell my Jagstang so why not enjoy it while I’m alive? Why keep it stock? So when I do finally die, at least my wife or kids can resell it with the original pups and all!
That 'Dynamic Vibrato' looks like it would always be in the way, especially if you want to do a lot of alternate picking, but then again I don't think that kind of playing is the point of this guitar. Cool guitar.
Really? I own the Mustang, and on that you can literally play any style of music. It’s like the most versatile thing I own. Maybe this one is vastly different then.. .
@@caprise-music6722 the Jagstang’s stock humbucker isn’t that versatile, it doesn’t have enough high end in it. I don’t know about normal mustangs since they usually come with single coils. I only know about the Jagstang specifically.
I had to hunt one of these down for two years before I ended up with one. Mine's a 2002-2004, from the final run. They have a great clean tone as well as a distorted tone, but the humbucker isn't as good as you might think. I was thinking of replacing mine with a Seymour Duncan Super Distortion or something with a bit more bite and oomph. Mine's a little knackered, anyway. I'm just too scared of damaging anything on the internals and breaking it, so that's the only thing stopping me from upgrading it.
I thnk the Seymour Duncan distortion pick up is what was in his sunburst jaguar that he got frm a pawn shop. He didt install it but it came with it already and thats why Kurt loved it and its sound, but I did hear bout the previous owner that pawned it was some kind of hotshot blues picker / session player. Dnt remember name tho.
you will be so much happier once you change out the stock pickups. you can't go wrong with either a JB or Super Distortion humbucker. Kurt used both on various guitars. I have a 96 MIJ sonic blue with a JB bridge and a Texas special neck wired to 500k pots and an orange drop cap. except for the tuning problems from the mustang bridge, this is one my favorite guitars I've ever played
I had one of the first lefty ones in Australia back in the day but it got stolen!! Do you guys have a lefty in sonic blue? I'd love to get another one some day?
The switches are on-off-on wired as phase switches. One switch for the neck, and one switch for the bridge. You can run either pickup by itself, or use both pickups in parallel, series, or out of phase. Parallel is normal wiring, series is boosted output with less highs, and out of phase is the Peter Green Les Paul wiring.
Iv only seen him play the Jagstang on the European tour of in utero before he canceled the remaining shows. He then flew bck home and shortly after offed himself.

Seth Thomas Japanese trash? Are you out of your mind? You need to do a little more research before calling Japanese guitars, let alone Japanese Fenders, trash. That's just ignorant. Go play the Japanese made Richie Kotzen Tele or a Japanese made Gretsch and tell me they're trash.
