I so agree with you. Since the first time I heard First Aid Kit many years ago now, I fell in love with them. As a musician I knew that this band was something special.

I am a music lover and I always taught about myself that I understand the hidden meaning of the songs, but I admit I don’t really get this one, or at least the parts beside the chorus…but somehow I get I get the meaning of it at an emotional level and yes, it’s definitely a masterpiece!♥️

I actually had the wonderful pleasure of hearing this song for the first time on Fourth of July on a boat in the middle of a lake with fireworks in the distance. It was magical to say the least.

Just got tired of waiting for someone who doesn't even see me. Then this song just played on my spotify because it was on my recommended list then I just literally cried in the corner of my room. It's so beautiful. I've been in love with this guy for 2 years now and there has been no progress at all and I know from the very start that I didn't have a chance and still here I am still clinging to whatever hope there is that's why that " Why do I do this to myself" hits me so hard. I interpret this as a song for unrequited love, you know from the beginning you won't get anything in return yet you still continue to love him (I am the only one at the finish line)

sounds like a mix of 1970s Joni Mitchell and their own flare thrown in and I absolutely love it.
I think you have to go even further back, to end of fifties and the beginning of the sixties. Harmonizing groups were very popular during these years, even if they modernized it there were of course no synthesizers back then. But the style is frorm that era.
