Inspired by a Gibson classic, this new take on the '61 LP from Epiphone is packed with a wide range of upgraded features and appointments to give the sound, look, and feel of 1961. Pretty cool, but for $850 they should be able to use rosewood.

I dont understand why Epiphone stopped using Rosewood. At that price point the competition offers Rosewood even at a lower price.
@@turboeagle4600 They originally had to stop using it because of CITES regulations but they were revised some time ago and there is no reason (except cost?) why they can't use it again. Even guitars costing less than 200 quid are using rosewood.
@@kingstumble not to mention the other Standard 60s SG is much lower in price but offers almost the same electronics
@@kingstumble the reason they stopped is for ease of trade. With CITES they have to have paperwork proving origin for each country so it’s easier to just use something common like laurel. It’s fine and simulated rosewood decently aside from being insanely light-colored in many cases, but at this price point I want the real thing!

Epiphone have put out high end guitars in 2021 the Epiphone Customs Moderns and Prophecy Models are high end guitars so why would this beautiful Les Paul Sg be any different
It says Les Paul on the truss rod cover. Interesting.
These were originally called Les Paul when they first came out
Yeah I know but I have a 2021 Gibson 1961 Standard and it has a plain cover. I find it interesting that its on an Epi version and not Gibson. They removed the Les Paul name I belive in 62 or 63 when his contract was up. I guess he wasn't thrilled about the design but LP's just weren't selling at the time. Its funny, the SG is Gibson's most popular design ever.
I dont understand why this release is received so negative while the Epi LP 59 standard was received so positive. Both are the best Epi versions of a LP and a SG you can get. I have both and these are high quality instruments. It’s not only in the Gibson burstbuckers but alsof in better hardware, wood upgrades, the finish and a case. It’s well worth the price as the rest of the inspired by Gibson line-up still needs upgrades to make them complete and high quality versions of the Gibsons.

Yea it would've looked beautiful in a nice gloss but it's still better than that ugly venner they have on the other one

Epiphone is getting so close to Gibson they are heading in the right direction the question is would you buy this guitar or a bona fide used Gibson SG special for $750.00.
I would buy the Epiphone Custom Modern and Prophecy Models way before I would a Gibson

Sounds great. I'm sure it's a good guitar but you can literally buy a used Gibson for the same price so I don't get who this is for? 🤔
Indeed , The price - money is for the greedy Gibson company .
For people who want a warranty when they fork this kind of money for a guitar. It's also for people who don't like the pickups in those used Gibson Sgs . It has Burstbucker 2 and 3 which are great and those used Gibson have 490s or the 498t and then many would have to replace those Pickups for ones they like and there is another 300 or 400 dollars added many people also dislike the burstbucker 61 pups. So the epi 61 has the exact pickups some want which are never used stock om any Gibson Sg . Not everyone likes to buy used guitars. You also do not have a return policy on a used guitar . If you buy it and it caps out 2 days latter you will have to pay for the repair and Maybe a set up . People like the idea of having 30 days to return a guitar if they do not like it . You can't tell much when you buy a used guitar and get to play it for all of 5 minutes before you have to decide . Just because it's not for you does not mean it's not for anyone. Why do people have such a hard time with the concept of personal choice and preferences and tastes

for about a couple hundred dollars more you can buy an American SG special.
You can also get the Gibson SG faded special for around $450 used but they don’t feel too great

For nearly $900 they could've done a one piece body and used rosewood because of the electronics are the same as the Standard 60s for 549
Why would you ever buy this if the value will only drop while a used Gibson will hold its value, nevermind this will never be a Gibson so that doesn't make sense...
