I drove the 2020 and frankly I will keep my Outback from last year until they get it together - First, the 2020 eye track and a monthly report to the highway department of your performance (I can see insurance raising your rate with that one), they got rid of the outside floor light which are so useful in rain or night time,... no cd player (seriously???)and where is my dc plugin up front? Why a complicated multi control screen that you will never be able to keep clean, when you could get everything with 1 button on the 2019.... , why are the front seats so uncomfortable? and they still can't figure out the neck position ...the extra gadgets noises here and there are irritating, the plastic bumper looks well....plastic (not in love with it), and a hood that you have to prop up instead of the pneumatic shocks....all around I could care less about the gut look and all the best features I actually love and use daily were simply removed.
Thanks for the video. This comment(s) are a little late but... I’m glad you pointed out the center console. I think Subaru has lost its way on this. What I mean by that is; I think people how buy subaru Outback’s are looking for a simple, reliable and very functional car, which has the ability to be a little off-roadsy. The new center console complicates the simplicity of some basic functions a car should have. Specifically; the usability of a dial/knob, or button, for the climate control, HVAC. The ability to control or adjust this functions should be as simple as possible - without taking your eyes off the road. Having to use the screen to adjust the climate is cumbersome and dangerous. A driver must take their eyes off the road to adjust these things with the controls on the screen. Subaru should see this and go back to the tried and true knobs of old and leave the big screen TV for home entertainment. I hope to hear back from you, and address this in one of your upcoming videos.
I definitely agree.... 1. I don’t think the big screen has the proper implementation of the applications to make the extra screen Real estate worth while, the fact the Apple CarPlay and the rear camera only take up a tiny portion of the screen is wild to me. But maybe that will change. Also you are correct, in fact to turn on your heated seats it’s like 3 presses deep in the Climate control menu... really difficult to use while driving. Unfortunately I think this is just the way technology is going, everything is software buttons now... so unfortunately I think it’s just going to become more convoluted 🙃
I had a 2003 Outback Limited that I loved! We ended up donating it to a lady who lost her daughter and husband and had her car quit. It had 196k on it and drove like it came right out of the factory. Not one problem with it ever. I now have a 2011 with 220k on it and it's the same story. Drives like a dream and zero problems. I truly believe that the Outback is the perfect vehicle. You can get one with plenty of power, great mileage, plenty of room for a family and hauling, ability to tow a trailer and also go through snow and mud like a beast.
I like the 2019 version better. It has a more functional interior with a pleasing layout. The iPad screen is a bit much for not that much gain. It’s a bit lacking and I hate the piano gloss black of the new car combined with no HVAC buttons. That’s really annoying. Imagine it’s freezing in the morning and you want heated seats. In a normal car you could just get in and flip it on. Now you have to wait for the system to boot up and then you might not hit it properly or it stutters and it just feels like we’re in the early 2000s era of in car technology
The CVT transmission will start to fail around 80,000 miles and Subaru will say "we don't see anything wrong" then when it fails completely at 100,001 miles Subaru will say " it is going to cost you $10,000 to replace the CVT. Subaru CVT's suck, do some research before buying one.
Great video and I pleased that you have done this comparison 👍 I bought the 2019 3.6 auto in Ozz with absolutely no regrets, traded in a WRX manual for the Outback (back to it's origins) From one good resale value car to another. I accept the increased fuel consumption but as I am retired, I believe the 3.6 is better for my leisure driving (Long term maintenance on turbo's?) Like many other comments that I have read (other vids), I prefer the smaller info consul with some easy separated accessible controls. In Australia, the 2019 model has a digital radio so no 🦈 fin. Content with the slightly smaller 2019 width as this Outback is already tight in my garage. My Outback has a full size 18 inch spare wheel which requires a bit of muscle to lift it out of it's recessed location. Drives smoothly on the highway and no biggie that the 2.4 XT has 4 more horsepower but certainly the latter improves the towing capability. Has the 2020 💯% leather seats! All round, both are great cars.

I love the warning light for traffic in the blind spot. Instead of being on the glass mirror it’s on the inside. You can’t miss it and I appreciate the reminder. Also notifies me if I take my eyes off the road, and welcomes mr by name and says good bye.

I prefer my 2019 Limited with cd player and the extra dc plugin in the front console. They also redesign the front seats in the 2020 and I didn't like the feel when I sat on them.
This is very lame review. He failed to mention hat the transmissions are different, the structural strength of the 2020 is significantly higher, and the torque is significantly higher in the 2020. His review is shallow and superficial.

Couldn’t agree more. Just making things bigger, without improving functionality, is not a recipe for crafting a competent infotainment system. It’s just following trends in the car industry rather than delivering something that works. At least in the 2019 model, there are physical buttons

Recently purchased low mileage used 2019 Outback 3.6r limited after test driving 2020 outback limited 2.5 (underpowered and too much engine noise) and 2.4 limited turbo (too much lag time before turbo kicks in, and too noisy). 2019 Boxer 3.6r is silk smooth, quiet and powerful and runs on regular gas...beats out expensive premium gas burning, complex, noisy 2020 turbo 4 cylinder any day. If you are in the market for an Outback with normal acceleration and power, do yourself and your wallet a favor; find yourself a 2019 3.6r limited or touring while you can.

Pre 2009 the Outback was a good-looking, crisp handling AWD estate car. Since then its been on a diet of donuts & french fries and regularly beaten with the thick end of the ugly stick resulting in this munter. Little wonder Subaru sales here in the UK are down to just 25% of their peak.

Not sure in America but I've researched the CVT in the Subaru in Australia and other than on some early models there seems to be no ongoing issues with the modern CVT's
Just got a 2020 after driving a 2.5 2019 for 2yrs. 2019 was fun to drive had a lot of pet for a little engine.. I can't believe the difference how much bigger and wider and cumbersome the 2020 feels to drive. Nowhere near the same power as the other one with the same engine. This thing's a big clunky slow tank. 2019 much better in my opinion
Lol you've never actually driven one. It has a lower center of gravity and stiffer chassis, and if you drive it, it handles better than any sedan. Also, the engine make 7 more hp so you're wrong.

I’d buy up the 3.6 2019 model before I’d buy the new. The 3.6 is refined and sounds every bit of $39k. Hate turbo 4’s and would never spend over $25k for them. The 2020 looks good but I don’t like the sound of the engine.
I think Gas mileage of 4 cylinder TURBO engine is overrated. As you have to spend more on premium gas for turbo engines. So end of the day you spend the same if not more on fuel than 6 cylinder engines. Also 6 cylinders more reliable than TURBOS.
I have a problem with my interior light, it seems that they turn on automatically when i am in close proximity, i didnt even open any door. Is there anyone else having this problem?
Wait, is the hood no longer on pneumatic shocks when opening on the 2020? Does it have to be propped up now? For someone like me who does his own oil changes on my 2018 and just likes peaking under the hood for checks and such, that sucks.
Like the 2020, evolutionary rather than drastic changes, onyx edition is sharp, although xMode operation in the center display only sucks should be simple non distracting location as prior model and as in most any other AWD/4WD vehicle. All in all think we will be trading our CX5 for the new Outback. We are currently waiting a bit on pulling the trigger for more in stock availability so the dealers aren’t thinking one is purchasing a hot item!
What you didn't touch on and is a big thing is the towing capacity of the new 2020 is now 3500# over the 6 cyl that towed 3000. 2020 is coming to my garage.

I love my 2002 Subaru Outback H6 VDC , It has 302,000 miles on it and still drives like a dream

Yeah obviously the car that's engine is limited to 50% of power before break-in period is going to be slow and underpowered.

I own both cars, and the ride quality is very different. The 2020 is smooth. The 2019 rides rough and is noisy.
I hate the big touch screen. It’s harder to see and more dangerous when driving. I want real buttons. Subaru u fucked up. Big time.
