Most chocking aspect: it is not a country. It does not have diplomats, an army, ... it is not a member of the NATO, UNO, ... it is a region, just like Catalonia, Wallonia, South-Caroline, .... ruled by London.

Officially it's considered a constituent country of the United Kingdom, just like England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
