- The Continental: From the World of John Wick, reviewed by Tom Jorgensen
To be very clear, a Continental-focused series never needed John Wick, but it did need to fill the vacuum the character’s absence leaves. The Continental has all the right pieces to the puzzle of telling a story set under the High Table, but compounding miscalculations about how best to put them together leaves the three-episode series feeling inconsequential. John Wick completists interested in a look at how Winston and Charon met and why Winston may have made some of the choices he did in the films have enough to keep them engaged, but there’s no doubt a better way to realize this world on the small screen than the scattershot, half-hearted execution of The Continental.

Turns out John Wick doesn’t work as well without John Wick.
Sad thing is; it could have and should have.
Nooo really
A lot of people like the show
@@Anthonycheesman33it's not even out yet so how?
@@TheNobodyOfHarambe idk if you know this but people review stuff before it comes out it’s crazy lol.
Watch Gangs of London if you want a dark crime drama about factions fighting over a town with fight scenes that are the same quality as John Wick’s. It’s written and created by Gareth Evans who did the Raid movies.
Still waiting for Havoc to be released
@@mikeypliers9012 yup...
the second season isnt though ... he had a hand in some episodes but way less than the first season...
Gareth Evans is THE GOAT
@@muchamore321yeah season 2 was gash
Turkey feathers!!! Continental is an EXCELLENT series!!!
Assuming the series continues beyond a season (unless it's a mini-series, maybe??), it's a damned shame that Lance Reddick isn't around to eventually partake in the storyline.
S2 should be Osaka
Imagine if they did this series with a shifting perspective for every position in the table and not prologue version of the already established characters
Winston was clearly British in the films too
No
@@majorlazor5058 uh huh
That was a minor gripe that even though Winston is Irish, he never had the same accent he had in his older years.
I’m glad ign is improving their reviews. This has got to be one of the best in years
Why because they articulated their opinion better? Or because they agree with yours?
Thanks for watching!
This comment reminds me of the Dunkey video
Haha well said
Its IGN they are barely even right on their reviews everyone.
From the World of John Wick without John Wick..
Thats horrible critique though the actual show doesn't do itself any favors
Well other than his Dad, his Mum and his Uncle.
@@MS-sb9ov What happened to John being an orphan from Ruska Roma?
They should of showed John as a 4 or 8 year old which ever works best so we can at least see John training giving rise to his character in later movies
What as one of the plotlines? That's a pretty smart idea. 👍👍
Showing John's backstory is a terrible idea. It ruins the badass mysterious nature of the character.
Seems like they’re showing his mom’s story 😉
The first episode is okay in my opinion let's see what the second is like
Saw a longer preview of this series at this year's ComicCon and it looks fire. The creators do not have the greatest original material to work with since the John Wick films are very thin on plot. Interesting that this was the critique levied against this series, but not the films.
Because the four films give wealth of material to work with , the films created lore and the series had the opportunity to expand on it by explain the origins of it
Lore is not the same as plot and now having watched the first two episodes, some of the lore you mentioned is being incorporated. @@TheSupinesmokey
Hmm maybe you need to watch the series then. It is not thin on plot, it's just that the plot felt inconsequential to the mythology and world building
How can you review something that isn't out yet
Going to watch this on amazon prime Friday due to peacock not being available in canada but thanks to amazon that's not the case
Yall mfers trippin just enjoy the damn show without being so damn technical about the ish....if you can do better then by all means make your own version and accept the pros and cons from there
This is the dumbest retort ever... can't even handle criticism. It makes sense for a review to be somewhat technical... it's a review
Even though Stahelski chose his matrix aesthetic style for the fight scenes in the continental series rather than grounded combat that Keanu utilizes throughout the John Wick films, it's still pretty cool.
It's badass more spinoffs please
7/10 with ease. My biggest gripe is Winston's height lol
And accent
And basically wrong casting choice
The first episode was awesome! Before John Wick there was Frankie Scot!!! Remember that! It shows the development of the mastermind Winston Scot.
"Be seeing you" is from The Prisoner.
My biggest gripe with the show is the unbelievably out of place and tonally inconsistent soundtrack choices. Every other scene was just smashed in with some random 70s song that did not fit the tone of the show. So weird.
Daredevil director should direct this
First episode was awesome!.
I'm not sure why this was made
A mí me gustó este capítulo....no decepciona
Remember people, this is ign giving a review. Their reviews are very often wrong. Watch for yourself and be the judge!
Yeah... that's what I'm thinking. This is a 70's, 80's New York crime drama about an assassin, how can this be that bad?
Then why r u here?
@@kaimargonar1000bc they just want opinions to reinforce their own lol like dunkeys new vid
Lol a review can't be wrong, it's an opinion.
Just got out of EP2 and it's sadly quite spot-on. What a snoozefest.
The reviewer is insane giving this a 5! The action and cinematography is better then most movies coming out today. Its a spin off and its very enjoyable. Give the first episode a watch if you like the John Wick movies.
Mediocrity should be celebrated 👍
@@AdAstra78😂
@@AdAstra78🤦
💯
5 might be too generous. The show focused on glitz and glamour but lacks substance.. nice sets, nice costumes, funky music. But the fights and gun play are just awful, they hired people who clearly are not trained fighter.imo most John wick fans will be supremely disappointed with this
Idk what this critic is talking about. This is probably the best action/assassin/hitman show on TV right now.
Did you see episode 3 ? Omg the cinematic experience
@@rickopablo4610yup and love every minute of it
A 5 really? This was better than all Marvel content since Wandavision.
Since Endgame
Way better than wandavision
Really a 5!!!, I don't give a damn how big of a Wick centric plot you wanted or just wanted even more action that it already had to compete with the movies...but this is just pure lunacy to give such a mesmerizing experience a 5/10 and the rise of skywalker a 10/10
Who gave the rise of Skywalker a 10?
@@chewkie420 they're just getting mad at pretend things in their head, ignore them
Well they gave Last Jedi a 9.7, which is insane...
This dude also said he gave John Wick 4 a 10 and it was BY FAR their worst movie so these reviews are meaningless.
The action, fights and gun play in the series are terrible compared to any of the movies. Most of the actors looked like theyd been given a 2 week crash fight course before the series was filmed.
Hope they learn from their mistakes and create a better season
Oh and John joins the military in later years following in his father’s footsteps but not in the same branch
It was very enjoyable. Maybe your expectations were misaligned?
Is winston john uncle?
looks intresting to me ill have to see it at some point!
John Wick is Franky & Yen’s son. That’s why Winston is so attached to John.
They stayed in the movie theatre . She wants a family there . They probably already put that baby in her . That’s why he didn’t want her to die and sacrificed himself . In John wick it’s said that he saves charon and Winston . Why would john just save someone for no reason . Would be a great connection
@@sanakiyamam1987it makes sense 🙄
Absolutely. Opening fight scene is on a par with John because it’s his Dad.
If you take a second to think about it, nothing about this theory makes sense besides Frankie shooting/killing people in a similar fashion to John
What happened to Jardani Jovonovich? The orphan of the Ruska Roma?
Your point about budgeting for tv as opposed to movies when it comes to how polished the action could look kinda falls flat when remembering Daredevil, whose first season was a masterpiece from that perspective
All seasons of dd had some badass action, but it wasn't meant to be all that stylised in the same way wick is.
Oh they messed it up😢
Sounds like this was a waste of money
"Hey! You guys like things that remind you of things you liked already once, right?!" 'We liked original ideas..... yeah...'
Brutal Take-down Sir. Much obliged.
Oh.. this is better than the movies, first of all the fights look amaizing,
No stunt man waiting for Keanu revés to hit , and the woman know how to fight, Mel Gibson is great and the actor who plays Winston was perfect, the assassin all look like actual pros.
Would be better if it wasn't on peacock
Only continental im interested in is breakfast
From the test screening only the critics hate it but the audience that were there liked it.
Do not like this at all it way to dark as In the background. You can't see anything. Shown do this to cut back on visual costs which just make it annoying to watch.
The John Wick iconic limp 😳 same with Frankie 🤔
Too high of expectations?
So, it's a failed prequel?
Knowing IGN, if they praise it it means it's bad. but if they say it's bad or mediocre, then that means it's a masterpiece.
No it’s not actually.
It's an amazing prequel so far. It's a four part series and each part is released on Fridays. Part 2 this week.
Makes me concerned about Ballerina now.
Was about to comment the same thing
That's sad.
This can help the studio see what they need to improve or change for anything they have planned. But keep ign reviews with a grain of salt.
True, I'm hoping they do a movie about Caine, since there's unfinished business with his friends daughter that he killed, also a Nobody spinoff would be cool too, These can work without John Wick if like you said, they improve upon the world because it's so interesting.@@Err_InvalidName
However, John Wick is in the Ballerina - just unsure how much remains to be seen.
That Dante figure ... HUGE LIKE FOR THAT !!!!
What happened to John being an orphan from Ruska Roma?
People in the comments saying some wild theories😅
They should have made this 1st before the JW movies.
Was so sure it was going to be a 7....
The general reviews aren't great, what a bummer.
John Wick 4 is not a 10. Is this guy freaking serious? A freaking 10. Foh
This dude doesnt know what he's talking about. Because the pilot episode is fire so far. From the intro, the music, the setting, clothes, cars, story, dialogue to the 70's noir aesthetic. If he can't appreciate this then he probably never liked the JW movies to begin with or understood the spirit of them because this show captures it well enough.
They gave a 5.
The best thing since first John Wick
Uooof. I'll pass then
So it’s typical Hollywood feeding us member berries instead of getting creative, are those writers still on strike let me get my violin 😅
Young Winston has an American accent. Why?
Feel bad for the writers... they wrote a 10 Episode series and last minute they had to cut it to 3
How the hell did that happen and why?
The action is still great at least, right?
no 😂
it's interesting and sometimes comical

No “ rules and consequences “ whatsoever like the main theme of john wick. 🙄

This was awesome... loved it.
It was mid. Also didn’t need all three parts to be an hour and a half long.
Ign don’t like it so it must amazing lol.
the 1% view/like ratio on this video says all
don't listen to IGN reviews 😂
The most boring part of the franchise gets a show no one asked for
They could at least given us backstory of John Wick's honestly
John Wick.
Nah IGN actually got this right the show is pretty mediocre
If IGN didn't like it then its probably amazing lol
They give 5
Bro took 6 minutes to start talking about the action
this show is great
John Wick movies weakness IMO is John will always win no matter how tough things get. A series with ensemble cast that could die at any time by that glorious action would be very cool but guess this aint it.
Isn`t IGN lame now ?
My suspicion is that The Ballerina will not fare much better.
We cant all be freaks, it was a fun watch, an obvious spinoff ..take a breather
Dosen't look TV "budget", so many shows look better than films nowadays.
What are you on this looks way worse than the original film, not to even mention the better looking sequels.
Yeah nah, IMDb gave The Continental a more fair review than this dross. A 7.4 seems more reasonable to score for The Continental than a 5.
Well if you didn’t kill off John Wick you wouldn’t need a shitty tv adaptation
They didn’t kill him
They already announced more movies with him
@@PyRo-zm3lkbut then why Keanu Reeves begged that john wick should be killed in 4 as per ign....?
@@PyRo-zm3lk Nothing has been announced. Reeves has said he'd be open to a sequel but that's all.
You know something is up when IGN has to use a different graphic to the usual 7
Bet the editor didn’t know what to do when that score was announced
Aw man.
John wick 4 was the lowest in the franchise.
Sounds like a 4 instead of the given 5.
I’d give igns ability to score outside of 7/10s a 7/10.
John Wick is not John Wick without John Wick
im like 30 min into the first ep and wow the writing and directing is incredibly poor
incredibly harsh, why do you think so?
ooof damn, thats a shame
The dude is just dancing around saying this isn’t great. As a reviewer your job is being honest, not because your a fan, be to inform the general audience. Stop dancing around it and just say stuff like that clearly, if it is.
Stop bitching, due clearly gave his honest thoughts and gave it a 5. Why are you people never satisfied when it comes to IGN?
