I love how no matter where I click the fans are screaming.
Thank you
thanks king 👑
Always can rely on this. Love UA-cam
This is as good as "stop making sense" but for so many different reasons. Its gritty and real in a so understated way. There is still the intense chemistry cooking between all the band on stage that is a hallmark of this band that I love
Yeah its also got some deeper cutsbthat they wouldnt play for a while like drugs and also rhis concert has some of my favorite harmonizing for cities glad you like this Its really awesome
Agreed. This is what I always show people when I am trying to get them in Talking Heads. Hard for me to say why with words, but this Rome 1980 show is just pure magic.
This one has Belew, Stop Making Sense doesn’t. That’s reason enough to spread this around.
Just saw Belew and Harrison perform their recreation of this specific show at The Wiltern in LA. They are doing more dates into 2023, so be on the lookout.
Absolutely, this is just as good as “Stop
Making Sense”. The band is blazing these tunes, the energy coming from that stage is amazing and the crowd seem really into it!
It's better.
Tina..at her Most Beautiful ! 💓
Never listened to the talking heads other than a song on the radio. This kicks ass
Born under punches intro is incredible...Adrian belew tearing it up on the strat.
Great concert.
great tune!!!
yeah, man. I love Adrian's playing in the late 70s to mid 80s. So fantastic. With the Heads, with Bowie, King Crimson, his great solo albums like Lone Rhino and Twang Bar King...
Never heard anything like it before, and will probably never hear anything like it again. Masterpiece. will be relevant for 5000 years.
We will not be around as a species by then!
@@simonespanu7768 but the species that are will revere this
@@simonespanu7768 There will be pockets of humankind thriving (in higher ground) all over the globe.
I was there that night, I was eighteen; what a trip!!!
+canticum libero pur'io, compa': lì e stessa età
+Ricky Ghor Great Ricky!!!
That feeling you get when you discover something new. They’re SO good live. I was NOT expecting them to be this psychedelic and jammy.
Adrian Belew...just wow. I love guitarists who incorporate noise into their playing. True artistry.
That version of Crosseyed and Painless was absolutely phenomenal. Like James Brown with the JBs live phenomenal. Or The Wailers with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh live phenomenal. Galactic Groove with Belew shredding.
show this to aliens if they invade our planet, and just maybe they'll let us all live.
This or the atom bomb is all we've got. One or the other. I'm confident ;-)
They’ll most likely be coming back to pickup Adrian Belew and return him to his home planet.
This is the highpoint of human mankind. if only the aliens would spread this knowledge
@@matthewdeprospero9379 agreed.
@@matthewdeprospero9379 right out from my mind!
we all knew it just before it'll happend
WHAT a show. This is one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. On a screen.
Truly alien
This is probably THE best concert I have ever seen, recorded or in person. A friend of mine was lucky enough to attend this tour in 1980 or 81 when they visited Australia, and when he found out I was such a huge fan of Talking Heads he gave me his official Remain in Light tour t-shirt. Still one of my most treasure possessions :-)
Heck, they had Adrian Belew in the lineup. Not surprising.
Wish it was recorded as good as Stop Making Sense. It really deserved it.
Nice..wish I had Tina's black Talkings Heads Tour jack..da shit right there
I find this boring. I love U2 of this period, 1980-81,… but, Talking Heads,… it's like abstract silly art. U2 had ballspower and powerful sensitivity that was just magical,…. not just 'artisticle' as is all I sense with TH.
@@bonsummers2657 well, that's fine. I prefer driving rhythm and meaningless lyrics - which I don't pay attention to anyway - over pretentious 'meaningful' or 'heartfelt' lyrics. Diffrent strokes for diffrent folks
Two things:
1) Holy shit, how about Adrian Belew's early 80s output? He was in Talking Heads AND the frontman of King Crimson. That's insane.
2) No one will ever be as attractive as Tina Weymouth in this video.
+paulytamale INSANE...
Tina....so fine AND staying on the one...
+therasound And boy does she LOVE Adrian...so great to them smiling and riffing...you know...just PLAYING...
+paulytamale Yo're right, Tina was so beautiful here
+paulytamale Belew had also just recently completed a stint with Zappa at this time...and yes, Tina is amazing ; )
+paulytamale Couldn't agree more on both points! I thought I'd died & gone to funky-dog heaven when I first found this concert here several months ago - I think The Heads were at their zenith at this point in their career. 4 god-botheringly brilliant albums in a row is some kind of a miracle imho, and I defy anyone to name any other pop group that achieved that from their very first album to their fourth (that should take care of the Beatlemaniacs & Led-Heads out there, then! LoL).
I'm speechless, Longtime Talking Heads fan but first time seeing this. Never seen so many musicians working so hard, they all no exactly what they are doing, 100% committed to every song. Incredible Energy!!!!!!!!!!, I'm exhausted from just listening.
The backup singer is a goddess.
I couldn't agree more.
Dolette was adorable 👍 And exceptional on the high harmonies
no
Tina Weymouth's bass playing on Take Me to the River is so FRICKIN" AWESOME!!! Her and Adrian Belew look like they are having so much fun but yet... their playing is so crisp and clean! Simply one of the best bass players out there!!! :)
She's such a great bassist. Shame Byrne thought otherwise.
Listening to this tonight in Remembrance of my true friend of 40yrs who sadly passed yesterday. He loved Talking Heads. R.I.P Peg Leg Pete ❤️
Big love to Peg Leg Pete wherever he is now
Your friend must have been a very nice guy if he didn't mind you calling him Peg Leg Pete. ❤🙏✌️
Sorry for your loss. Sometimes friends become just like family!
Agree! A real almost unknown guitar hero. Zappa, King Crimson, David Bowie, Talking Heads. And he is still alive.
And Mexican rock band Caifanes
Nobody slackin on this one! Magical. Dolette's vocals just shining through. Adrian is on fire.
I simply can't stop watching this. Belew, Tina, quirky but not yet over the top David, tight funky band. Love it...
Well said
It is not Tina who made this, it is Colette.
Same here. I’ve watched it at least 3 times a day since I found it. I think I’m addicted.

Thank you
1. Tina's bass playing, eyes and wiggle
2. Adrian Belew
3. I would pay handsomely if they could remaster this from the original recordings.
What an incredible concert. Tina is one of my favorite bass players. She's always right in the pocket, inventive, muscular, percussive and FUNKY. And with Adrian Belew (one of the most creative, progressive, and groundbreaking guitar players still alive today) on guitar and vocals with the band they are an unstoppable ensemble. And no phones....those were the days.
Too bad Adrian didn't get into the music.
8^P
I love watching bands when the people are just having a freaking GREAT time.
Hi Chet please watch Sina-Drum. With phones same class. Nice day Tom

Thank you for this comment - for all of it, but particularly for talking about Tina Weymouth's BASS PLAYING. This video had default 'Top Comments' as the sort order - that doesn't match the # of 'likes' but whatever... The first three comments are about how "sexy" or "attractive" Tina Weymouth was. So disappointing, coming out of such joyful music. And thus your comment had extra resonance for me, and I thank you.
@@MerynCadell, par for the course from negative and/or positive comments from lonely, juvenile and sad critters out there. Music, what music?! Change your diapers yourself.
Damn, Tina Weymouth.
This concert is so damn good... fantastic addition with Belew producing other worldly sounds with his guitar. My absolute favorite era Talking heads, Remain in Light is nothing short of a masterpiece.
David Byrne owes us nothing. So much great music, and I am eternally grateful. But Damn! Why wouldn't you want to revisit this? So much energy, so much love from the audience...
Byrne put this together, I believe. Just tremendous. Belew on fire. 5 Stars.
Saw them at the hollywood palladium in fall 1980. They were fantastic ! Born in the punk clubs of nyc, i consider them beyond punk musically, intellectually and creatively. they created their genre.
At the front of the stage, what were you looking at Dave????? LOL
Truly awesome, Talking Heads were a force of nature live.
Always loved the sound of Byrne's guitar in this show.
He's a brilliant , accurate rythm player, seriously underrated in that area.
I was five years from being born when this concert occurred. Unfortunately, with the era I was born, I can only find videos like this to see truly great concerts. Such a great sound, love it. My peers scoff at me when I have music like this playing in my car. My car only plays good music.
Tina climbing the speakers without missing a beat is one of my all-time favorite concert moments!
This act was hospital sick.
Adrian Belew strafes and menaces in fine fashion here.
Tina and Busta give it the business.
The entire rhythm unit is on lock at a fever pitch.
"Don't forget to mention, forget to mention Memphis, home of Elvis and the ancient Greeks" is one of the best lines from a song ever. It just cracks me up.
I fucking love this rhythm section,, they fucking love each other,,, we all fucking love the rhythm section
There’s the plus of Adrian Belew and Busta’ Jones that the Stop Making Sense didn’t have.
talking heads live, rome 1980, adrian belue/on his craz guitar},all members at their finest, such power and stage energy how they do that for 2 1/2 hrs thats just adrenilan pumping through that sound, wow! and ive seen them back in 80s,they were great!!!
I had forgotten Belew played with them. I am on the third cut of this video; already itis one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Wow.
Yet another burning of Rome , Belew smoked that guitar.
Great band , 1980 ? Talkin way ahead of their time .
A must watch, but Beware ;This aint no party , this aint no disco
is it just me that thinks this is a far better performance than Stop Making Sense?
Honest to god, this is one of the greatest shows ive ever seen
Nope.. This fkn kicks ass my friend.;)
Not as well filmed though
It's a more flowing and spontaneous performance. It's magical
Much better
The energy of this concert is unequalled by anything i have seen in recent years. That was the Talking Heads at the highest point in their career, sad as it may sound, they never reached those levels again.
Talking Heads were probably the greatest live band of the 70s and 80s. Byrne was all about the energy and consummate musicianship, that's why he never hesitated to bring in outside musicians. If you were lucky enough to see them live before 1985, like I was, you'll know what I mean.
They didn't take shows off like the Stones, or go through the motions like the Who did by 1981.
Was right with you until you started dissing the Stones and the Who.
I agree. But there are many greats from that time period. The Smiths, Joy Division, Sonic Youth etc.
saw them three times charles ....incredible never danced as much as i did at these concerts ....they whipped all of us into a frenzy and it felt like they played us into a trance like state
Ditto, Charles. Grateful to have caught maybe 5-7 shows in NYC, Long Island, NJ etc - late 70's, early 80's. No frills, just unequaled intensity, energy, tight timing - nothing like 'em!
@@User-xw6kd Joy Division sounded god awful live, I prefer New Order much more. The Smiths are great live though and probably had the best rhythm section of the 80's in my opinion and then Marr's insanely creative licks too.
Never really got into Sonic Youth but I would throw The Cure, King Crimson and Gentle Giant in there as well and for the 70's, Roxy Music & P-Funk, for playing awesome live shows. Peter Gabriel dominated the late 70's to mid-80's with his solo work in my opinion. His music was so unique.
Wow, this is huge. You can FEEL the energy, creative and otherwise by these guys. EXCELLENT SHOW FROM MY BIRTH YEAR!
The audience is one of the greatest things about this concert. Italy, 1980 - so much rage, so much energy!
Saw this lineup at CBGB's about 6 months before this show. Always interesting to see Adrian Belew no matter what band he was in.
Funny, though because as great as Belew is, I like just about all of Bowie’s other lead guitarists more than him. Certainly I would put Mick Ronson, Stacy Headon, Peter Frampton and SRV ahead of Belew. I think Earl Slick and Reeves Gabrels also belong in front of Adrien. He fits great with the Talking Heads, though.
I get the same feeling from watching this as I did the times I saw LCD Soundsystem live… Pioneers.
Les Clarke Same
They should remaster it. Jesus Christ it is another level of art.
TH at their peak creativity (Byrne) and lineup with core and extended band so tight. Incredible performance and nice camerawork. Thanks to the creators of the video and the poster!
To me the best period of one of my all time favorite bands. The additions to the line up, Eno's production and the experimentation added to an already great sound. And on top of a great show. Saw them the first time 2 years later at Forest Hills tennis stadium.
Dude! I was at Forest Hills that night! Greatest dhow ever and I’ve seen many. That night the became my favorite band of all time. I’ve seen Belew live so many times I can’t remember them all. Mostly solo, but I did see him once with Zappa and once with King Crimson. I wish I could have seen him with the Talking Heads, but Remain in Light is forever!
I was at Forest Hills too-July 1983-I was 16 and it was magical
wow stop making sense is good and all but this is so raw and balls to wall awesome
Yes
agree
Damn I'm old
Still great!
Ha, I hear ya! (been wearing earplugs at loud concerts since '85) This music never gets old, and never fails to make me feel young!
Awesome version of Stay Hungry, rips the studio version to shreds!
Jamming this!!!!
Adrian Belew is insane
Being a fan of Crimson... I think I see who influenced his singing style.

the fucking best sorry about the language i loved this band i was 19 first time i saw them and 24 the last time i saw them....thanks for the list original four, you might add were david, jerry, tina and hubby chris ....was adrian with them originally ...when they were art students at the college in rhode island?? im not sure, help me out mrjohn
Lexie no AB joined for Remain in Light tour , three LPs in. Originally just DB, CF, TW, and JH
This are real artists. They don’t need dancers cause good music has to be dancing in your ears and not in eyes
Adrian Belew, featuring Talking Heads: incredible guitar playing here, every song has it's own tones and moods. Incredibly deep.
Tina Weymouth is awesome.
Bernie Worell, folks. He is not there by accident. He'd already been one of George Clinton's main members of the Parliament/Funkadelic hydra for a decade when he joined this tour. Just sayin'.
RIP bernie worell.. i was fortunate enough to see him play with buckethead/praxis and les claypool a few times .
@@qwerty378 whaa?! I didn't know he died! I saw him a for our five years ago at a local festival as the Bernie Worell Orchestra. Real good set. I'll have to read up on him passing.
I'd guess Bernnie would be the connection hooking up Lynn Mabry from the Brides of Funkenstein to the TH Stop Making Sense tour.
Bernie and the supporting musicians were the reason this album and tour was so funky; David and co. didn't know anything about R&B.
He was funky as hell!!!
Well, nothing going’s to remind just how low music has sunk than this. So absurdly great it brings tears to the eyes.
OMG This is the GREATEST live concert of all time. TH at their peak, blows me away. Long tmie fan since 1970's, Please someone AI this up to 21st century
I'm was here, with my broken ankle!
belgrade yugoslavia 26.july 1982 no broken ankle...jumping like mad XD
I hope its healed by now.
Tutins eravamo andati insieme??
Uno dei gruppi più rivoluzionari di tutti i tempi, inimitabili, avanti di 1000 anni.
Adrian Belew. Hell yeah!
Adrien Belew is the effin man! Bowie, Zappa, King Crimson and Talking Heads....how can you not love that guy?!
playing the hendrix strat of all guitars.
Adrian Belew, Oh My Gods! Tina Weymouth, Holy Monsters! The amazing of this entire line up, WOW!
Fantastic bass player.
They had the "basic equipment" only....Themselves, some instruments,of course....I was there!!! Very pictoresque.... The people at the concert was about 20.000, I suppose......Isn't it??? I watched almost of the concert at the Italian TV, RAI 5, on January , the 29th/2020, at night !!! It was the 2nd or 3rd time they played the show.... A thrilling one!!! Many thanks for posting it !!!
54:20 I'M NOT A DROWNING MAN... I love how the best bands make you laugh and give you chills at the same time.
Superb and the band nail it live
Adrian provides a great additional guitar and damn the original 4 piece are just excellent as always
Great band at their peak
Jesus Christ on a stick there's more energy in this one concert than god damn power plant.
Amazing and timeless! This will never get old.
The whole thing is amazing but this version of Crosseyed & Painless is phenomenal.
Colette McDonald grossly ignored / underrated in comments above / below. She was about half or more of what carried his concert into a memorable event. With her fantastic performance she fired up the entire band.
Agreed! It's a joy and pleasure to watch and listen to Dolette. Her energy, wow. And always lovely smiling, her spontaneous dance moves. I think she must be a wonderful and charming person.
She is so beautiful and I love her delightful aura and lovely smile.
Amazing singer.
Absolutely amazing.
Even when I don't see you I still hear you Bernie!
The Greatest Dance Music Ever Conceived by the Mind of Man!
1980 I married a huge fan who first introduced me to Talking Heads. We divorced in 84 but I remained a dedicated fan, especially DB!
Great!!! i saw this show in Osaka,Japan in 1980 when i was just a sweet sixteen ; )
The additional musicians are so damn good. As a non playing music nut, i just look, listen and love this.
A performance for the love, so full of all things that such a gathering should be, a real gem as far as I am concerned.
thanks for the access
Colin
Tina is a goddess!! (And a DAMN FINE bass player!!)
I was there. Still shaking off the goosebumps
I saw them in Florida around this time. Tina W was mega preggers. The show was awesome. The band looks like regular dudes, not rock stars or posing punks, just really good musicians having fun. David wore the big suit and ran around the stage. It felt as much an art event as it was a concert.
Uno dei più bei concerti cui ho assistito!! Serata indimenticabile ...pelle d'oca ... anche a tanti anni di distanza
One of the greatest concerts ever filmed.
Goodbye Bernie! RIP one of the best musicians ever
Yeah, he just left us. Shame. Busta left some time ago.
Yes, i knew about him. In the nineties.
Busta Jones and Bernie Worell were original artists who will always be remembered for their forward thinking styles.
The band in heaven, they play my favorite song, they play it once again, they play it all night long...
Rest In Peace.
Frank Zappa was smart to hire Adrian Belew, but as much as I love Zappa, I have to admit that Talking Heads and King Crimson were both a much better fit for him.
Agree, though the live solo for flakes still sheds
His work with Bowie is so tight too
I had a guitar teacher that was a serious jazz musician. He taught at tertiary level. He was also a total Zappa nut. But once he said to me that Zappa often takes great musicians and makes them average because his great music doesn't have enough space for anyone to shine except Zappa. I've never heard any Zappa that contradicts that. Maybe Chester T on One Size Fits All.
@The Rain Interesting points. I think Vai certainly got to shine. Belew and Ruth I'm not so convinced. Maybe it's my jazz training but having parts written for them, even by a master like Zappa, isn't allowing them to shine. I love listening to Ruth in Inca Roads as much as the next person but I still have no idea what she's like as a muso. I can't remember her taking a solo as distinct from playing a fiendishly difficult written passage. Vai on the other hand got space to spontaneously create. ( When I wrote my original post I forgot about Vai.)
As a bass player, Tina is my favorite bass player of all.
"stop making sense" was a film of a concert realized by the great film maker jonathan demme. this is soley a documentation of a band on tour at the peak of it's musical power. im so happy to have this to see over and over again. the band left everything they had on stage. what more can you ask for?
Live music just doesn't get much better than this.
Thank you so much for uploading this.
Dolette McDonald is awesome.
Yes indeed! I'm just looking through this comment section with one question in mind, "Tina...who?"
Bruce MacNaughton she is hot to me to
Her dress is awesome too
Dolette McDonald is THE GO TO BACKGROUND SINGER-see Bring on the Night c.1989 film of Sting's first solo tour
quanto rosico per non esserci stata... avevo 13 anni, altri due annetti e stavo là anche io... ARGH!
DIESE nervöse Energie ...hellsicht.2016 und ich bin immer noch dabei
Nice Hofner bass!
it's basically the same as the classic "Beatle" violin bass but, it has a more traditional guitar shaped body.
it's quite rare and I purchased one in the the late '60s.
Yes, it is quite clear who Adrians' vocal coach for his KCrimso audition was, thank you Mr. Byrne.
Kevnote He was actually singing that same way when he was with Zappa.
I cannot put into words i much i love this...... took me to another place.thankyou❤
vielen Dank,

Increíble sonido un concierto mágico!
