And we thought we’d take a trip through history today to celebrate the absolute cream of the crop from the dawn of this millennium. While everybody is going to have their own personal opinions, with a list like this, it’s not too difficult to agree that the critics knew quality when they saw it. Games on the Dreamcast were so good it competed with the best of them. If only it wasn't discontinued, we would have continued to get great stuff for it.
Unfortunately the Dreamcast was just too far ahead of it's time....should have been released 7 - 8 years later with current tech from that time and Sega would probably still be a solid contender in the console market.
Then again, they do quite well as publisher and due to that we get to enjoy Sonic on all platforms, even having established kind of a "friendship" with his former strongest rival Mario.
I think it's pretty awesome and wholesome to see them side by side in some videogames from time to time. Definetively not the worst that could have happened to Sega.
I had no idea how good my childhood was. All these games came out in one year!?
*Ah I see you're switching up from worst games to best games quite bloody brilliant If I do say so myself*
*obvious
@watchmejumpstart I've seen a lot of UA-cam comments before, but I've never responded to one, so I'm going to give it everything I've got.
@watchmejumpstart I'm just stupid good sir or madame
@@XXXXX8 you did spendid
2000 might be tied with 1998 for all-time gaming years for me...insanely quality era
and with '99. Such good years consecutively 😊
THPS 2 is still my favourite game of all time. I finish it 100% every few years on every (less or more expected) console.
I only ever beat it with cheats on the N64 version I rented. I had it for the Playstation but the disc stopped working. It was a very sad moment because, well, THPS2 is AWESOME! The soundtrack and customization alone are worth owning it.
Banjo Tooie and Mario Party 3 were quite good too
This is a pretty good list.
Does anyone else hear the weeeird background beep throughout the whole video? Not just this one but like all of them... Like the videos but I can't unhear the random single tone beep. It sounds exactly like the Wix "You've just got an order" tone and it just pierces my ears every 7 seconds or so through your videos
It was Jet Set Radio here in America as well..
Perfect dark is far from perfect
Uh oh.
No more OH YEAH HERE WE GO SPORTS TIME??
Would a quick jingle before the sports entry freshen the gimmick up a bit?
No
List starts at 1:08.
You're welcome.
2k should be able to make NFL games Madden is just shit now
Code Veronica felt tired and awkward when it came out, never mind now! Not a good game.
you mean 10 best playstation games of 2000
Please don't put the no.1 spot in the thumbnail.
Its a shame you didn't mention spider-man 2000 for the ps1
I got Final Fantasy IX and Baldur’s Gate II for my birthday that year. Genuinely one of the most transformative days of my life as both games are probably in my top 3. Top 5 at least.
I can't believe it's been over 20 years, this games are still amazing. I'm currently playing tony hawk 2 on my dreamcast and Majora's in my N64.
When I was a kid games over 20 years old were... Well, basically space invaders clones
Perfect Dark is still one of my favourite games to this day!
Year 2000... 14 years old... Christmas... Ps2 present... what a time to be a gamer!
Final Fantasy IX is my favorite in the series. As much as I like futuristic/sci-fi stuff you can't beat good old fashioned high fantasy, especially when it has a bit of steampunk mixed in.
2000 really was a great year for gaming. Especially in retrospect, freaking amazing.
Not Just gaming but entire pop culture
This list is declared null and void due to the ludicrous absence of the greatest game ever, DEUS EX.
FF IX is still my favourite RPG of all time and was unfairly overlooked by many due to it arriving right at the end of the Playstation's life cycle.
There is an animated series coming out based on it and rumours of a possible remake - I just hope they keep the turn based battle system.
Seems like square Enix wants to move the mainline final fantasy games more towards action oriented combat with some turn based mechanics rather than old school traditional rpg mechanics cus 15, 7 Remake and the next one 16 are all way more action oriented. If they did remake 9 I wouldn’t be surprised they changed it and made it kinda like the remake of 7
@@jeremyroberts8822 As overrated as I think FF9 has become, it would still be disappointing if they tried to "modernize" it. FF7 Remake has way too many issues and Square Enix has not demonstrated any ability to pull off action combat, especially in a party system.
@@jeremyroberts8822 I know what you mean - I can hope, right?
@@yourgameisstupid the combat system in remake 7 seems like it's on autopilot. I recently re-played 12 and I was so strong by the end of the game that my party basically beat the final bosses without my input.
@@BOABModels lol exactly. I get that they wanted to move away from pure turn based because that's "old", but they haven't been able to replace it with anything better. Just flashier.
Breaks my heart to this day what happened to the Dreamcast. I think Sega still would have eventually folded due to all the shite they've pulled with Sonic since Adventures, but man what an incredible console.
I loved my Dreamcast. I used to play Crazy Taxi for hourssss.
@@AloxDelgoodon94 I had the PS2 version of Crazy Taxi and back then thought it was boring....was one of the very few games in my life I ever sold again.....now I regret that and would love to have it back.....
Magical year for the Dreamcast. I was in 7th-8th grade and loved all of it.
My top game of 2000 and still one of my top three favorite games of all time is Perfect Dark. It did so many largely unique things that haven't or have rarely been done since. GoldenEye showed that FPSs could be done well on consoles, but PD showed that they could innovate and excel. Halo made another huge leap with Halo 3 pretty much perfecting that formula, but PD is the FPS I go back to more than any other.
If you love Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, you HAVE to give the TimeSplitters-Trilogy a go, especially 2 and 3!
I love them as well, especially the amount of content outside of missions. I wish games shipped with even half as many features and unlockables today.
1998 will never be beaten
Honestly 1998 was so good and launched so many truly huge franchises alongside giving us massive installments in already established franchises...
That I don't think we'll ever see a year like it
Ocarina, Half Life, Gran Turismo, Starcraft, Grim Fandango, Banjo Kazooie, FF Tactics and the list does indeedee go on
@@tylarjackson7928 The Besties are on crack or haven't been gaming that long then because 2007 Isn't remotely close to 1998 ,
or near 2001, 1999, 2000, 2002 , 2004. 2007 Is one of the most overrated years Imo looking at It's standouts as well as niche hidden gems
It's honestly only slightly above average , It's just not enough for me to get the recognition It does. Older years like what I mentioned above
have the advantage of development cycles being much faster than 7th gen - present so they were naturally more stacked years ,
and It was a golden age of experimentation and still coming to grips with 3D , there were no real guarunteed AAA success formuals
or rules to be preassurd to follow ,that's why I always put them at the top , we had just enough capability and oldschool creativity along with groundbreaking game design organically happening nearly every month , the Industry was as balanced and healthy as It's ever going to be.
Good list, but the first Resident Evil game to not use pre-rendered backgrounds was RE Survivor, released shortly before CV.
9:25 Man, the Sega Dreamcast REALLY was massively ahead of its time......way too ahead, sadly.
I think Diablo II, Deus Ex, The Sims and C&C Red Alert 2 fell behind SSX.
I won't complain since Baldur's Gate 2 is here, but man, no mention of Diablo 2??? What gives?
The scariest camera in the world is in Jet Set Radio
Don't take the Mark of the Beast! (666)
As a 12 year old skater in 2000, life was pretty awesome.
Great video and all and honestly I hate to be “that guy” but Chrono Cross came out in 1999
Perfect Dark is my favourite game of all time. 2000 was a great year for video games in general.
The fact that 007 golden eye and perfect dark are not remastered on steam is a crime against humanity
Umm I HATE TO BE THAT GUY BUT WHERE IS THE EVERY LEGO GAME RANKED EPISODE??
I swear some of this script was written by an A.I.
Why do you always mock and make fun of sports? Ugh
Why do you guys always us US metrics for your lists?
Widescreen on Majora's mask looks unnatural
Urm where is my "okay here we go sports time...."
5:40 "Final Fantasy IX" in my opinion is pretty much the best FF game ever made, with FF VIII being a very close second.
VII deserves all the praise it gets for bringing JRPG's back into the public light after the golden SNES era of JRPG's, but damn, VIII added so much and made the whole experience so cinematic and really conveyed this feeling of a grand scale epic of the really engaging story very well, and as if that isn't enough, IX then ALSO added fantastic gameplay and a rich and versatile world, eh scratch that, universe to it to explore.
It also contains the single strongest scene not only in all of the Final Fantasy franchise, as an epitome for the whole of that Final Fantasy stands for, but in JRPG & RPG history in general. And that scene sets in with one of the strongest musical scores ever heard in any video game ever. Still, whenever those first few notes of "You're Not Alone" start I still get the chills.
I miss Alice from the list
Wait they like good games lol
I can't believe the original sims just missed out of this list. Had to look it up to check, but sims is 'only' sitting on a score of 92 - so close!
You forgot The Sims
I'm a huge SEGA fan and the Dreamcast is probably my favourite console, but Jet Set Radio being in the top 8 rated games of the year 2000 is.. surprising to me. I liked the game very much, and it has that quality to it that you just feel compelled to have 'one more go' at a stage, but it's also, without a doubt, the most frustrating game I have ever played. I dare anyone to play this game to the end without screaming in agony at the TV at least once.
Let me go back.
Shoutout to excite bike 64 that year which was a great 3d sequel to the original two nes games games (Excitebike and vs excite bike)
3:56 As an American, I can confirm, the game is called Jet Set Radio to anyone that isn't an uncultured swine.
NFL 2k1 plays better then madden 22, sad really
so does the PS2 version of Madden 2001 from the same year , which Is still my favorite Madden It's the only one I ever really liked.
Should do best things every decade brought
The last Dreamcast game I played was Crazy Taxi. I loved that game.
FF6 is the best Final Fantasy. I just can't quit it.
The Domino's joke was top notch
Man, I miss Neversoft.
Interested to see how this works lol
What a great year for gaming
Golden age of gaming
👽
The year i was born. I know nobody cares.
SSx was the bland original.. ssx tricky is the one I believe ur referring too.
Hot Take: FF9 is unironically the best PS1 Final Fantasy
By far!
FF9 was overlooked at the time, and now its fanboys overcompensate by over-praising it.
Honestly I hate to be that guy, but....
Chrono Cross was not as well liked as chrono trigger. CT is often regarded as one of the greatest RPGs of all time while Chrono Cross has a fanbase for sure but nowhere near as big.
Also, the features mentioned in FF9 like Minigames and Active Time Events, those were in 7 and 8 too.
Nothing wrong with being "that guy" when you're correct, which you are. Not many people who played Chrono Cross consider it to be one of the best RPGs of all time. It's good, not great, and not even in the same ballpark as Chrono Trigger. I don't think any of them actually played it: they even praised the 40 characters, which is one of the most common criticisms of the game because most of them are basically shallow collectibles.
1995-2002 best years in gaming change my mind
Agreed. If you look at a game in 1995, then another in 2002, it’s astounding how far technology moved in 7 years.
No need to change ur mind coz it's actually true
I disagree completely. 1950-2022 is clearly the best era in gaming! 😤
I agree I say the same thing , It was the point where I was perfectly happy with gaming's capabilities and the Industry as a whole.
My girl and I use to have SSX parties back in 2000...now that we have kids, it's a no SSX household. She doesn't want to expose them to SSX. Now I have to sneak out to get my SSX fix and then lie about where I was...it's not right.
9:04 What?! No 'Here we go, sports time!" ?
lol.
Morticia is great and all but personally, I love Elvira
I wonder why ( o Y o )
Deus ex baby
I find it odd when people say FF9 was some kind of throwback to older Final Fantasy titles. It's not. It has a medieval setting, and that's about it. Older Final Fantasy titles don't have the Saturday morning cartoon quality of FF9, the over-punctuated characters, the hamfisted drama, "power of friendship" nonsense. I suspect it's something people who haven't actually played older Final Fantasy games repeat because they don't know any better.
