And, it’s up to us to check on travel advisories. Don’t depend on others to do it for you. They’re saying don’t buy drinks unless they come sealed. No, do not go to the Bahamas! Terrible that this happened. Thank goodness it wasn’t worse.
By this standard, people should also not go to NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, Atlanta, LA, San Diego, Las Vegas, New Orleans...and the list goes on and on. Things happen everywhere. It's up to us to be vigilant wherever we go. Plenty of people have had uneventful trips to the Bahamas. These women unfortunately met with some bad people but not all Bahamians or resorts there will have people committing crimes to their guests. Let's not scapegoat a whole island for the criminal behavior of 2 people.

This was like a mile down the beach from us. The resort has a ton of cameras everywhere including some hidden ones (in public spaces), and after letting the girls tell “their” story fully, released all the camera footage. Apparently the girls lied. I think them being married, maybe something happened they didn’t want their husbands finding out about.

Having traveled all over the world extensively, it could have happened to me if I wasn't keeping myself aware of surroundings, foods, drinks & people around me. IT's just as wrong no matter where it happens or whom it is that assaults other people.
I was staying in a four star hotel on paradise island in the mid 80s, and the staff were terrifying, overtlysexually threatening, and knocking on my room door in the early hours of the morning saying there was a fire to try to get me to open the door.

But so many women have a few drinks, get high, spend the night with Pooky or Ray Ray or Chad the DBag on girls nights or girls trips in Vegas , Nashville , Miami and they got to come up with a story to answer for the 100 texts they’ve missed or calls from hubby and family. Well, yes, there is no "safe" place, really... bad people exist EVERYWHERE! Two of my scariest travel close calls happened in Europe (Paris and Valencia, to be precise) so really, when you're a woman traveling... even if there are no travel advisories you have to be on it 24/7.

I am assuming these women have partners and this would be classed as a girls trip...so they had a few too much, cheated on their partners, regretted it with the guilt they felt for betrayal of their partners, and now class this as SA. This was like a mile down the beach from us. The resort has a ton of cameras everywhere including some hidden ones (in public spaces), and after letting the girls tell “their” story fully, released all the camera footage. Apparently the girls lied. I think them being married, maybe something happened they didn’t want their husbands finding out about.

I was staying in a four star hotel on paradise island in the mid 80s, and the staff were terrifying, overtlysexually threatening, and knocking on my room door in the early hours of the morning saying there was a fire to try to get me to open the door.

I wouldn't trust staying at Nassau and Freeport. I always stayed in areas near the tourist area when I lived there. The outer island bahamians were like totally different people. Really chill, relaxed and cool.

1) NEVER accept open drinks or where the seal has been tampered with when you're vacation, in restaurant, etc. This info is 10 years old.
2) Why do all the news reports say that they are only moms? Both victims are clearly MARRIED. The one with the baseball cap has a wedding ring on her right hand. The one with the glasses has her ring on her left hand.
