We have some stories about when camping goes wrong, like the time we were camping at Rapid Bay in South Australia and a lovely sunny afternoon turnied into a full on storm. Our tent collapsed on top of us in the middle of the night and there was little choice but to just lie there and put up with it until first light and then pack up in the pouring rain. That was fun...
Yesterday 2 mates and I went for our first day hike in preparation for our first overnight hike in a couple of weeks. We were blown away by how every single person we walked past was ready to stop, have a chat, offer advice and be generally lovely.
Being evacuated from Coraki during the Northern Rivers/Lismore floods was more traumatic than I expected. Not in relation to my own safety, but the worry and fear I had for the lovely communities that were being caught up in this natural disaster. I used Motels until I got to drier circumstances. Travel was very slow due to the deluge too. 4 hours to cover what I would normally do in an hour just because visibility was so compromised.
Our first camping trip as a family nearly went wrong a few years ago... we bought a huge Coleman instant-up, did the right thing and tried it out in the backyard a couple of times before going away, easy. Took it to a beachside caravan park an hour and a half from home. We had all sorts of trouble putting it up in quite a stiff breeze, it just wasn't working. After a while we discovered that the pin holding one of the legs to the central hub thingie had broken as a result of the wind. I'm not ashamed to admit that I lost my sh*t, culminating in me snapping my $10 petrol station sunnies in an infantile rage, now an infamous incident in our family history (when I get cranky the kids say 'dad's gonna snap his sunglasses haha' etc). My wife, not at all keen on camping but far more sensible than me, pointed out that I was setting a very poor example for the kids and that we could probably fix it rather than giving up. Sure enough, a trip to the local Hammerbarn, plus waiting til dusk when the wind dropped to put the repaired tent up, let us get on with a fun weekend away. Cheers for the vid :)
Then there was the time I rigged up a clothes line between the caravan awning and the roof rack on the 4x4. (guess what happened next) Yeah, I got in the 4x4 forgetting all about the line and went to drive off - scratch one awning - and it was the start of three months we were spending up north. Never put a line on the awning EVER again!
On extended camping trips we should really take out travel insurance, in case anything major happens. We should also be in our state equivalent of the RACV, incase of vehicle breakdown.
Weather doing a 100%, back flip. is the worst. Been caught a couple of times. On heat wave days. And rain hail wind hits. especially when you're not at camp. That's when it always happens. I find these days, most issue's are with the under 18 years of age. Teenagers that don't want to be with their parents or friends causing the Yahoo issues. Hey, we were that age once. But it pisses me off, as in screaming and at 11pm bouncing a basketball. Ouch
Then with no more than 5 mins spent watching, go somewhere else. Their channel, their content. Snowys's quality, in every way. justsayin. I'm pushing for "justsayin" to be placed in the Aussie Lexicon. One word, infinite interpretations, justsayin.🌴
No one is forcing you to stay......or did they hit a nerve because maybe you are one of those obnoxious yobs that goes out of their way to make everyone else's camping experience suffer because of your super loud antics ? Hmm, could be... Get over yourself mate, Camping is for everyone to enjoy, and these guys are offering a channel where they not only share expert tips and advice, but scary thought here, you could actually learn something. 😂😂

"You can't have a kit in your car for Dickheads" It's early in 2025 but this is my quote of the year, regardless of who said it 🥰🥰🥰🥰
