- A day trip to northern Minnesota's Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge yields some nice photo opportunities including Thumper the drumming Ruffed Grouse, goslings out for a walk, Golden-winged Warbler, and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher that is quite a ways north of its normal range.
We also tour the Warren Nelson photo blind. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Besides the amazing photography, I also very much enjoy Sparky's high-quality audio of the birds singing.
The Ruffed Grouse drumming is such a surreal feeling. I always feel it in my chest like it's drumming within my heart. Awesome footage and video Sparky! Loved it!
So true! One of my favorite spring sounds in the North Woods.
9:37 Yup! Hats off to Mr. Ford! 😎✌️
That’s for sure! A real asset.
Bald Eagle -super star image of my day. 👍
You and me buddy… I think we’re the only ones that like that image.
Lots of Golden-winged Warblers in northern Michigan, as well! 🙂
That’s true! But since Minnesota has over 50% of the breeding population, I really think we have to make it our state bird. Michigan’s should absolutely be the Kirtland’s Warbler!
Hola: qué maravilla de lugar, aki la primavera es igual de mágica.vida, vida,y más vida por todos lados.Como siempre mis felicitaciones,un abrazo.
Happy Spring Pedro! Enjoy your birds!
I really liked the Canada Goose family image. Very different. I live in Winona in SE Minnesota and have never seen or got a sound recording on Merlin of that Blue-gray Gnatcatcher but I will be on the look out for one!!
Thanks, Andrew… I really appreciate specific feedback on photos! There was some heat haze coming off the road, so not super sharp but I still like the idea. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers are so hard to get photos of cause they’re usually way up in the top of the canopies. Song is in the high range, but Merlin should be able to pick it up. Mature deciduous forests.
Fantastic footage, Sparky!!! I loved especially your Ruffed Grouse video and still!!! Was that a veery I heard in the background? I don't think you all are probably so impressed with the veery or the Loon, since they're pretty common up in your area. But here, they are like TREASURE as they migrate through!! I'd like to pick up a copy of your book when it goes on sale. Thank you for sharing your images from Rice Lake!!! How far is that from the Bog?
Hi Carol, Yes, Veery! Very, very common up here… Or should I say veery veery common :-)
Bite your tongue when you talk about replacing the loon as state bird of MN. It's my home state and loons and ruffed grouse are my favorites from home.
Ha! I’m only half serious but many states have loons yet Minnesota has over half the worlds population of Golden-winged Warders. Just saying…
@@SparkyStensaas Okay, enjoyed your video all the same and we do claim the loon as OUR bird. LOL! It's call defines it as THE northern state and would think something was wrong if others tried to make it their state bird. Can't begin to tell you the feeling that call invokes but then I grew up there and suppose a lot of people who weren't out where they could hear them might not agree.
Thanks, Sparky!
Looking forward to your new book Sparky!
Thanks, Rose Grace! I will announce it in an upcoming video when it is available.
