this video isnt about how to start. No one finds value in "how to start" in a literal sense. The true value is in how to start in a way that that's gonna help achieving goals. "just wearing shoes and going out for a run" is as useless as "hitting the gym", which most people fail after the first week of new year.
@@DylanMeek7 I would and did skip step one. Step one is definitely run, and not too far or too fast. Build up speed, build up distance. Try on lots of different types of running shoes, until you find what works well for you. First time I tried running I just went for it all out. I ran every run at maximum effort, did a half marathon 1 months later... And was in so much pain for the next 6 months that I didn't run again for 7 years! Second time around I started with lots of 3-5km runs before building up to longer distances over a year. Tried loads of shoes. Turns out I need wide shoes, 2e are fine in most brands. Turns out I enjoy muddy trail runs, so most of my shoes are trial shoes or even fell shoes. 1 year later I got a Garmin watch. 1 year after that I actually followed my first 6 week training program for a 10km race. Sure I had raced a few races, and I had tried to follow training plans, but I had never actually succeeded in following the plans. The Key for me is getting more sleep!

I have watched lots of videos about running for beginners, and yours is by far the best that I relate to, even though I'm not a beginner but I definitely learned tons from the tips you presented. Thank you Shervin, we appreciate you
Thank you for this video, really inspiring! Problem with running is that everybody can do it, most of them can do it very intensively for a period of time and then overtrain or lose interest of it in the long run. Consistency is the key for all amateurs to stay fit and be healthy. Not the intensity. It's better to do 3 times per week really slow paced then really intensive 4-5 times per week intervals. Some of people need challenges and this is fine. But you cannot do it for extended period of time. You should be just better version of yourself and not watch other results. When you start your pace will be really slow if you want to maintan long distances. And this is fine. Some people say that this is not running - disregard them. In few months time you will be running faster for longer. This is your progress you want to track and not some random comments from toxic people. Regarding knee pain - same as for other sports. If you do not do it properly, following a plan that was designed for amateurs, you can get injured. I've seen people following professional plans that are not suited for amateurs - and boom - injury after few months, achilles or something pretty serious. Losing interest after that. Same applies to weightlifting or any other sport.
Thanks for making these videos. I'm looking to get into running this year after I lose a little weight and you're the first, like, easy going, insightful, approachable channel I've come across. you seem to really enjoy it and I'm hoping I end up being the same.

Keep up the amazing work, Shervin! I served as a Navy SEAL in Lebanon 🇱🇧, but over time, I let myself slip into bad habits and gained weight. Thanks to your videos, I’m finally back on track. Thank you! ❤️
This video just made me get up and go for a run. Thank you! I agree about the run clubs though lol - they’ve sadly become hunting grounds for the thirsty.
How do you balance lifting and running? What does your training plan look like? I think you can create a whole video on this (the plan, nutrient, mistakes you wished you knew)
Dude thank you! I just moved to NYC and have been more motivated to run after watching the marathon. I'll try to catch a Endorphins Saturday morning run some time!
Talk about an awesome video! I watch your videos all the time but never comment. I had to comment on this one because I love it. You did such an awesome job explaining this for beginners runners! I’m not a beginner runner (actually running another full marathon next weekend), but I benefited from these tips as well. Oh yeah, I love your Apple Watch Ultra videos. I love seeing other people run with their Apple Watch. I hate when I hear people saying things, “You’re not a serious runner if you run with an Apple Watch” and yada yada yada. I run with my Garmin sometimes too but 9 times out of 10, it’s my AWU. Don’t even get me started on the “……but the battery doesn’t last 99 years on one charge like my Garmin” comments. 😂 Anywhooo, congrats on running the NYC marathon a few days ago. That was an awesome and fun video to watch as well. Now go sign up for another marathon so you can make another post race video! 😊 Jk….not really….but jk. 🤭
Thanks Shervin. So helpful and great to hear other’s perspectives and best habits. Question….what running shorts and/or leggings combo (for both summer and winter in NYC) do you use/recommend? TIA
Cool Clothes/Shoes aren’t necessary but if You Look Good You Feel Good 😎. I was running with my dog daily just to keep him calm while I go to work. Once running became trendy I got “into it” for fun 😂
Shervin, for your tech brain, you'd go crazy for cycling, power meters, heart rate, etc. The tech tracking for cycling is packed in. I know you love running (obviously on show here in a great way) but I wonder if there's space to try out cycling as well
Hi Shervin! Great content as always!!! We really appreciate it! Just a question.....do you recommend running for weight loss??? I followed a 5k x 3 a week for about 5 months but not really good results ! Salute from Greece
Hey! I'm new to running - what are the shorts that you show in this video? And/or how would I find similar ones? I like the style you showed where it's tight on the inside with a pocket with a sort of baggier outer layer.
I mean this with no offence, rather it is impressive that you have a higher body fat percentage and you are an active runner. I can see you hold fat around your face and belly
