Ah, car has to be ON. The other 2 videos I watched failed to explain that simple point. For M5, this worked like a charm, thank you!!

I Have a 2001 BMW X5, 3.0i. I have an older Sears garage door opener. I had previously used the buttons on the X5 to open the garage door. The wall console had burned out and I had to replace it. I replaced the wall unit that controls the door but I have no remote. It did not come with a remote. I contacted sears and they do not know how to program a remote to the wall unit. Really. Old manual gave instructions but not old enough! I tried what is on line from UA-cam but it does not work. No rolling code. No learn button on the opener itself (no controls actual... old unit, works fine). I installed a new 41A4884 wall control (old one burned out) and I have purchased a 18791 / 41A4884 contol console (the hand-held remote) but it will not talk to the wall unit. Bummer! I cannot program the remote. Yes I have new batteries. Yes it works with other garage doors. What I need is for the BMW X5, 2001, to recognize the wall unit directly, with no remote, and no chance of a new remote. Any help?
